Chapter 139 – Sweet Little Secretary

"Wuwuwu…" Missouri covered her face, wanting to hide—but the temptation of seeing the Commander was simply too much to resist.

After all, this was the Commander she adored most. Sure, he hadn't given her a ring yet, but when it came to feelings for him, Missouri believed she wasn't the slightest bit inferior to any of the married shipgirls.

So, with her head lowered in guilt, Missouri shuffled one step at a time toward the hole she herself had blasted in the wall.

The opening was taller than a man, with spiderweb cracks radiating through the walls. The once-elegant Mediterranean-style command room now looked more like a war-torn ruin.

Missouri averted her gaze from the trembling blue ceramic tiles and cautiously peeked through the breach.

Standing in the square were Lexington, Tirpitz, Yat Sen, Fletcher, and Glowworm—all comrades from the base.

The carefree, golden-haired shipgirl with her hands behind her head must be the new companion the Commander had mentioned—California.

And in the center of the group, surrounded by shipgirls, stood that unkempt black-haired man—the Commander.

He wasn't fat, nor thin. Not particularly handsome… but why did her whole body feel hot just seeing him, like her heart was fluttering and begging to pounce?

Missouri covered her mouth as her eyes grew red. Her body trembled slightly.

Hikaru looked up at the girl standing in the broken wall of the command center.

She had a strong, athletic build. Her tea-colored, shoulder-length hair hit right at his weakness—long hair had always been his soft spot.

In truth, Hikaru had already recognized who she was. Her grace and presence stood out even among the elite of the base.

"Missouri," Hikaru called with a smile, waving. "Hey there?"

That single line was like flipping a switch. Missouri could no longer contain the tide of emotions in her heart. She launched herself like a shell straight at him, crashing into his arms.

The sheer impact knocked Hikaru flat onto the ground.

Fortunately, he wasn't hurt at all. Missouri's soft chest had completely cushioned the fall, her enchanting green eyes shining like emerald waves, trying to pull him deep into her heart.

The two of them rolled a few times before stopping, with Missouri landing squarely on top of Hikaru. And she showed no signs of letting go. Hikaru was a little flustered.

He was a dignified Commander, after all—being hugged this openly and intimately by such a tall girl, skin pressed to skin, was just a bit… awkward.

Especially with everyone watching.

Trying to defuse the moment, Hikaru gave Missouri's soft waist a playful squeeze and joked with a smile, "Missouri, you nearly blasted me to pieces just now."

He really shouldn't have said that.

As soon as the words left his mouth, Missouri's face flushed crimson, and tears began falling from her eyes in big, round drops.

"I—I'm sorry," she whimpered, her voice trembling like a little girl's. "I won't ever do it again. Please punish me."

She grabbed Hikaru's hand and pressed it to her chest, swearing sincerely, "Please believe me. I'll accept any punishment you give!"

Now he was the one caught in a dilemma.

His hand sank into a soft, full sensation. Every tiny movement sparked indecent thoughts. Pulling away would be awkward. Not pulling away was even more so.

At this close range, Missouri's tears fell one after another onto his face.

One drop slid across his lips. Hikaru instinctively licked it.

Hmm… a little salty.

But oddly… kind of sweet too? he thought.

Maybe it was the sweet scent of Missouri's body confusing his senses… or maybe the tears really did have a hint of sugar in them.

Either way, while Hikaru was enjoying this awkward moment, Lexington had already lost her patience. No woman could stand seeing her husband pinned beneath another girl.

But before Lexington could intervene, Tirpitz had already stepped in. With a clear look of irritation, she kicked Missouri right on the butt.

"Have some shame," she snapped. "That's my husband!"

Tirpitz might normally seem like a shut-in who stayed out of everyone's business, but no one in this world was free from bonds and affections.

As a German shipgirl, Tirpitz naturally felt closest to her fellow Kriegsmarine comrades at the base. As for the British and American shipgirls? Sorry, but they were the enemies of history.

Missouri wasn't the kind of girl to back down easily, and she looked ready to fight back. But then she suddenly realized—the Commander was right underneath her.

How could she possibly let him see her being unladylike?
