Chapter 10: Maxing out the stats
Alan and party spend 4 more hours to clear the earth turtles. Most of the work was done by Arun so he profited the most.
They slew around 40 including the first one and each got around 30 attribute stones and Arun being the one who did most of the work got 120 attribute stones as per agreed distribution.
Well Arun only needed 78 attribute points to hit his mortal limit so he gave the rest to Alan. Alan took 30 and gave the rest 4 each. Now both Alan and Arun have maxed out.
They checked their panel. Each of them had upgraded their main attribute to the limit so their combat power did not fall behind Alan and Arun. Only their other attributes are a little behind.
Ann needed 33 attribute stones to hit her limit, Kane needed 36 and Ruo Si needed 46. They need 115 more to max out their team and after that they could go and attempt the class selection trial.
"Now that we all have hit peak combat strength, why don't we attempt any strong foe?" Alan asked.
Everyone else nodded and looked at the map. They eventually decided on lighting jaguar territory. They offered good attribute stones drop and also provided good combat training.
They used their formation to strike the lightning jaguar territory. And after 5 more hours of intense fighting the team maxed out their stats. It was already evening when they got out of the dungeon and all were in high spirits.
Their team was balanced and their combat strength was high so it was a breeze through the beginner dungeon. As they got out they bumped into Ruo Si's old teammates.
The one leading was called Henry. He wanted to make trouble but his teammates held him back after recognising Ann. With the glare from Ann they did not make any trouble and scrammed away from there.
Ruo Si relaxed after this. She was on edge after she saw him. Now that they saw her with them they won't make things hard.
"What if they make things hard after you are alone?" Alan asked.
She replied in a carefree manner "they won't. After I'm done with my class selection trial I will be moving back to my family's place so I don't think I will see him again"
"So you are from out of town" said Ann.
"Yeah something like that. I came here with my father when he came here with some work. He was waiting for me to complete my class change here. So I'll be leaving with him after the class change"
"So we won't see you for the youth ranking competition then" said Arun.
Youth ranking competition is the competition that is held every year one month after the awakening ceremony. It was used to select outstanding talents across the world.
It is conducted by Gaia federation, the unified government that came into power after the world faced the calamity. So the rewards for ranking high would be very attractive.
The guilds across the world will also use the rankings to recruit new geniuses. So if you want to join a guild other than being specially recruited you need to get a considerable ranking or a certain points in this competition.
"I don't know, maybe we may see each other if we get to the later stages." said Ruo Si.
They then said their goodbyes and split up. They promised to meet each other the next day at the origin monument for class selection trials.
Alan and Arun were called by their teacher. He handed out their awakeners ID. It contained the special identification number which will be used for everything related to awakening.
They departed to their homes as it was getting dark. Soon Alan got to his home and he saw a hover car outside. It belonged to his brother. He used it to travel around.
Alan was excited seeing this and rushed into his home.
He saw his brother dozing off on the sofa as he entered. He didn't disturbed him as he went on to have a shower and change clothes.
His brother was a handsome man just like him, with a medium build at a height of 175 cm. He had a black hair and silver eyes like Alan. But his brother mostly resembled his father but Alan took after his mother.
His brother rarely comes home as he spends most of the time in the guild. And he always looks exhausted when he comes back.
He didn't disturbed him, and he covered him with a blanket. His gaze went to his brother's bag as he was about to go to his room.
His brother always brings some trinkets when he comes back. So he started rummaging through his bag like a curious kitten.
He found some snacks and a tier 1 guide book. As he was rummaging his movements woke his brother up.
He looked at Alan and sighed. 'You never change huh…' thought Harry.
He pinched Alan's ears and pulled him aside.
"It bad manners to go through others things you know" Harry said
" but these are your things… so I think it is okay" chimed in Alan.
Harry sighed. He then asked Alan about his experiences. Alan started describing his experience in the beginner dungeon. Harry nodded hearing this.
When he heard that he gained fire elemental mastery he was elated. He had only taught him the basic method to gain it. But little did he know he would gain it this quickly.
"Haha…As expected of my little brother, you really are a genius."
"By the way, according to the schedule you wouldn't be free until the weekend, so did something happen?" Alan asked after he remembered his brother's schedule.
"I originally had planned to come back before your awakening. But I didn't get a chance and I could only come now. I wanted to give you special instructions and some things." Harry said.
"If it was just some instructions you could have just told it over the phone" said Alan.
"Hey I came here to meet you. Is this how you treat me…" Harry replied as he pulled Alan's ears.
"Although I am late, I came in at the right time. You not only reached level 10 but you also hit the mortal attribute limit. Now that makes things easier. I wanted to give you a special entry into the guild. Now that you have shown your talent I can bring you in with no problem." Harry said.
" Um… can you actually do that? I mean do you really have the authority to do that" Alan asked
To this Harry said proudly "Of Course. I've just been appointed as the 7th elite team's vice captain so I indeed have the authority to recommend some spots. Plus if I bring in a good talent early I too get some contribution points and rewards."
"So what benefits do I get as a genius if I join early?"
"You will get resources according to the talents you show at the test. It may vary person to person. But you still have to pass that special class trial first before all of that, so let's focus on that now".
Harry then explained about the things to take note of when undergoing class selection trials.
With Alan's current capabilities, going through the class change trial for normal class will be a breeze.
As for special classes, it is a completely different case. Special classes are of two types one is the hybrid classes which combines the advantages of two classes into one.
Another is the super class which is the buffed up version of normal classes. The difference between normal classes and special classes is mainly the class allocated attributes points one gets when leveling up.
When leveling up, each attribute will gain points according to the class that was selected. If we add all the gained attributes, normal classes gain around 10 attribute points per level.
While special classes get 20 points per level. This is what makes the special class attractive. But as the special class is strong the trial is also equally hard.
The difficulty may vary from class to class. The most difficult trial was recorded for the class mage-healer hybrid. Those who passed that trial were rare which included Alan's brother Harry, which helped him gain entry to the Titans call guild.
What makes a special class trial difficult is the fact that you can only attempt it once in your lifetime. Once you fail you won't be able to attempt for any other special class trial again.
As for the normal class trial one can attempt it as many times as they want. So Alan only had one shot at this class trial to get his class.
