Chapter 6 An Invitation Which Can't Be Declined

Rehaan and Maya's relationship was not hidden from the students in the college. They started gossiping about them. "They look cute together," said one girl. "No way! I don't like them. I mean Rehaan is such a sweet and fun-loving guy, and Maya is the complete opposite," said another girl.

Some liked the pair, some hated them together. Some were adoring them, some were jealous, but nobody could ignore their relationship. With time, Rehaan and Maya came closer.

Rehaan and Maya were sitting together in the canteen.

Rehaan "So Maya, vampires don't age right?"

Maya "Yes. As I'm a born vampire, I grew up like humans, but my aging would stop after a few years."

Rehaan "But I'm a werewolf. Like humans, I will grow old and die."

Maya became silent. Rehaan noticed she got upset and quickly changed the topic.

Rehaan "As you were born a vampire, you must have some special powers. So, how are you different from others?"

Maya "To be honest, I don't know. My parents always say that I'm special, but I don't know how."

Rehaan smiled and said "Okay, don't worry, we will find out together how you are different from others. And yeah, your parents are right. You are special."

Maya and Rehaan kept looking at each other lovingly when suddenly Maya's mobile rang. Nisha was calling her. She cut the call.

Nisha and Rajveer were at home. Nisha got annoyed.

Nisha "Why did she cut my call? What is she doing?"

Rajveer "Stop overreacting Nisha. Maybe she is in the class. Or maybe she is with Rehaan."

Nisha "That's why I'm worried. Maybe they are together now. I feel she is falling for him. Maya has not given us any such information about those wolves, which could benefit us. I feel she is protecting him."

Rajveer "She will never make that mistake. She knows that the werewolves are our enemies. She can't love him."

Nisha "Does she care anymore? I don't think so."

Rajveer "I'll not let this happen."

Nisha "What will you do to stop her then?"

Rajveer "I'll find out everything about that Rehaan and his clan myself. And if they are harmful, I'll finish them off."

Nisha "Maya will not let us do that. She is more powerful than you and me."

Rajveer "But she is not aware of her powers yet."

Maya returned home and realized her Mom was upset.

Maya "What happened now? I'm doing what you asked me to do. Rehaan was with me at that time, so I couldn't answer your call. I called you later, but then, you didn't answer me. Mom, why are you behaving like a child?"

Rajveer "You are right Maya. Now we should behave like mature parents. I and your Mom decided that we'll invite Rehaan for dinner tonight. How's the idea?"

Maya "Why? What's the need?"

Nisha "He is your boyfriend. So we'll invite him and give him our blessings."

Maya "What do you want to do? What's your plan?"

Rajveer "Call him now, and invite him tonight for dinner. Make sure Maya, that he comes."

Maya "Stop it. Please don't get involved. I know what I'm doing. He will get suspicious if you... "

Rajveer "Just do what I'm saying!"

Rajveer yelled at Maya. Maya was surprised. Rajveer usually doesn't get angry with her. Maya reluctantly called Rehaan and invited him for dinner. After that, she informed her parents that he would come. Maya went to her room.

In the evening Nisha made all the arrangements for the dinner. Maya reluctantly got ready. She wore a beautiful red dress.

Rehaan got ready and was about to leave when Kamini stopped him.

Kamini "Rehaan, think again. Do you have to go?"

Rehaan "Yes Mom."

Kamini "I don't trust them. They killed your father Vivek. They might try to trap you."

Rehaan "Relax Mom. They won't do any such thing. Still, I'll be careful. I have already met Nisha, Maya's Mom. Today I'm going to meet Rajveer as well."

Rehaan left the house after assuring Kamini that he would take care of himself. Kamini was feeling restless. She called one of her clan members on his mobile and asked him to keep an eye on Rehaan.

The doorbell rang. Maya opened the door. Rehaan was standing in front of her with a rose bouquet in his hand.

Maya "It's so beautiful!"

Rehaan "But it's not for you."

Maya "Come in."

Rehaan entered the house and gave the bouquet to Nisha. Nisha was happy and thanked him. She asked him to sit. Rajveer came into the living room. Rehaan looked at Rajveer and stood up. Rajveer came in front of Rehaan and smiled. Rajveer was a tall young man who looked handsome in his black suit.

Rehaan "Hello Sir."

Rajveer "Hello Rehaan. We are meeting for the first time today."

They shook hands. Rajveer asked Rehaan to sit. Nisha went to the kitchen. Maya sat next to Rehaan.

Rajveer "So Rehaan, it seems like you are very particular about time. I like that."

Rehaan "Thank you, Sir."

Rajveer "You can call me Rajveer. And don't be so formal."

Rehaan smiled at him. He was thinking that Rajveer was the same man who killed his father.

Rajveer "Why are you so quiet Rehaan? Say something about yourself."

Rehaan got an alert. He felt Rajveer was getting suspicious. As he is the king of the vampires, he might be sharper than Maya.

Rehaan "Well... I'm a werewolf. I was fourteen when I transformed for the first time. When Mom told me that I was a werewolf, I was very excited at that time. But now I miss my old days."

Rajveer "Why? Is being a werewolf that bad?"

Rehaan "No it's not like that but... I think I was happier before becoming one. The transformation process is... "

Rajveer "I know it's painful. Being a werewolf is not that easy. But I guess with time, you'll be used to it."

Rehaan "Yes, Mom also says so."

Rajveer "And your Dad?"

Rehaan kept quiet. Rajveer looked at Maya.

Maya "Dad, Rehaan's father... "

Rajveer "Oh, I'm so sorry. Maya told me about your Dad. I'm sorry."

Rehaan "It's okay."

Rajveer "If you don't mind, may I ask, what had happened to your father?"

Rehaan "My father died in a fire accident. He was in a building. He had some work there. And the building caught fire. I was seven that time."

Rajveer "Your father died in a fire accident? Was he not a werewolf?"

Maya interrupted Rajveer as she noticed Rehaan was getting uncomfortable.

Maya "Dad, I think we should talk about something else."

Rajveer changed the topic and started sharing his experience of being a vampire.

Rehaan said in his mind "You think you are too smart Rajveer. But don't worry, your tricks won't work here. You cannot trap me with your talks."

Nisha called them to the dining room for the dinner. After the dinner, Rehaan thanked them for inviting him.

Rehaan "Thank you for inviting me. The food was delicious. I'll take your leave now."

Nisha "Thank you. You are very sweet."

Rajveer "It was nice meeting you."

Rehaan "Same here."

Rehaan left the house, after saying bye. When he reached his car, he felt someone was watching him. He turned around. A man was standing in front of him.

Rehaan "What are you doing here?'

The Man "Your Mom asked me to keep an eye on you. She was worried."

Rehaan "Thank you. I'm fine. You may go now."

The man left. Rehaan sat inside his car and drove away. On returning home, he assured Kamini that the vampires didn't get suspicious. Kamini asked Rehaan to be very careful.

Maya was angry with her parents for arranging this dinner party. She was angry as Rajveer tried to find out about Rehaan's family. But they were satisfied after meeting Rehaan. After Maya went to her room, Rajveer told Nisha "Rehaan is harmless. He is just a kid. But I feel, his mother is very cunning. A werewolf in his human form was outside our house. I could sense him. He was keeping an eye on Rehaan. We need to be very careful." Nisha nodded her head.
