Chapter 3 Wild Dogs
Crossing the camp of Jacocas, Dany led Jorah and five other knights to the outskirts of Ogokar. A group of women wearing Dothraki painted vests were weaving straw curtains. Their rough and cracked fingers were very dexterous. They pulled off the wheat ears on the top of the whole wheat seedling and threw them into the winnowing basket on the side. They wove the remaining half-green and half-yellow wheat straw into long curtains like knitting a sweater.
The yurts of the Dothraki were mostly built with straw curtains. Even the fabric for making clothes was pitifully small. They all wore leather vests and coats. Most of the centaurs did not have cloth to make tents.
Seeing Khaleesi coming, the women and the children next to them looked wooden. They did not greet her respectfully, nor did they look at her with resentful eyes.
"These are all slaves captured from Ogokar." Jorah whispered on the side.
The Dothraki's "ecological environment" is extremely cruel.
About a month ago, in Vaes Dothrak (Horse King City), when the old Dosh Khaleen predicted that Daenerys would give birth to a "horse that rides the world", Khal Ogo was drinking and having fun with Drogo in a tent, like a pair of the dearest brothers.
About nine days ago, on the banks of the Lazar River thousands of miles away from Vaes Dothrak, the two met again.
At that time, Khal Ogo was leading his khals to besiege the town of the Lazar people, and Khal Drogo happened to pass by there.
Needless to say, Drogo led his roaring warriors to join the battle at the first time.
Not to help Khal Ogo attack the city, but to attack the tail of his team while Khal Ogo was busy attacking the city.
After sweeping Khal Ogo's tribe, Drogo took the opportunity to capture the town of Lazar, which was on the verge of collapse.
In that battle, Drogo killed Khal Ogo and his son with his own hands, and chopped off the head of one of Khal Ogo's blood guards. He fought one against three, and the price he paid was very small, with only a piece of skin cut off from his pectoralis major.
Drogo's strength is not to be mentioned, but his behavior shows the cruel survival rules of the Dothraki people.
There is a plot at the beginning of "Kung Fu". The leader of the Crocodile Gang said to the leader of the Axe Gang who was about to chop him: Wait a minute, have you forgotten that I invited you to dinner!
Drogo and Ogo had more than just dinner together.
Unfortunately, all friendship and peace only exist in the City of Horse Kings.
Under the shadow of the Holy Mother of Mountains, every steppe horseman in Vaes Dothrak is a brother, and all disputes are put aside. After leaving the Holy Land, the Dothraki Sea is left with only the most naked "survival of the strong and elimination of the weak".
Drogo not only killed Ogo and his son, but also reduced all the women and children of his karls to slaves. Now he is heading west along the Lazare River to sell them to the Gith slave owners in the Slaver's Bay.
A burst of noise and the sound of whips brought Dany back to her senses. Unknowingly, they had walked out of the outermost part of the karls.
Under the yellow sky of the evening, several Laza manors struggled in the rolling black smoke, and the raging fires made a roaring sound. Under the collapsed dry mud walls, warriors wearing painted vests rode back and forth on horseback, waving long whips in their hands, shouting and urging the survivors to leave the smoking ruins.
Dany saw many mothers with numb faces and lifeless, staggering steps and leading their sobbing children, driven by whips, walking towards the slave camp of Drogokar LS. There
were only a few men among them, and most of them were disabled and grandfathers.
Almost all the adult men died.
The Dothraki warriors consciously made way for Dany and her group, which attracted the attention of those who were resting at the foot of the mud wall. Soon, Haggo, with a bloody face, rode up to them.
"Khaleesi, are you trying to steal someone else's slaves again?"
Hago taunted, and suddenly an idea came to him. He grinned at Dany like a jackal, and suddenly lifted the hemp rope hanging on the saddle high.
"Ah——"
As expected, a stinking sweet blood rushed towards him. Dany's pupils shrank into a point in fear, and she couldn't help but let out a breathless cry.
It was a series of human heads, young and old, some with fear on their faces, and some with angry faces until death. The sticky dark red blood slowly dripped along the hemp rope tied with their hair, soaking Hago's thigh hanging on the side of the saddle.
Some heads were cut in half with a single cut, and the cuts were neat, while some necks were uneven, as if they had been cut several times before they were cut off.
Dany also saw that there was a head with a white spine hanging on the neck that was blurred with black blood.
Could it be that the blade was bent, and Hago pulled the half-cut head off from the shoulder?
They all opened their eyes and mouths wide, and Dany's ears seemed to be filled with shouts of accusation and curse.
Dany, who saw such a cruel scene for the first time, was frightened to the point of almost going insane.
God, she was still in the sunny medical school square this morning, receiving her master's degree in surgery!
Ser Jorah hurriedly drove his horse to Dany's side, holding her up to prevent her from falling off, helping her breathe, and picking up a water bag to pour water into her mouth.
Dany was like a rag doll, letting Jorah and Aggo toss her for a while before she caught her breath and woke up.
She tried to retract the tears and fear in her eyes, tried to make her eyes full of murderous intent, and then tried to raise her head and forced herself to look at Hago, who was still holding the string of human heads high.
Gradually, the cruel smile on Hago's face faded, and he seemed to lower his head in boredom and hung the human heads back on the saddle.
But as soon as he lowered his head, Hago seemed to be annoyed by the quiet and low atmosphere around him.
"Khaleesi, what are you looking at?" He couldn't help but raise his head and yelled at Dany fiercely.
Dany's eyes at this moment were completely free of fear and confusion. Her violet eyes were clear and cold, like a pool of cold spring. "I'm counting to see if you have chopped off the most heads. Unfortunately, Bonoko has two more than you."
"You--"
Hago's neck veins were exposed. He was about to attack Dany, but he immediately shut up, turned over and got off the horse swiftly, walked quickly to Bono's side, and counted the heads facing his string in a low voice. After counting for a while, he started to count with a confused look on his fingers.
Dany's cold and pretty face was a little bit unable to maintain.
The blood guards are indeed very powerful, but "A Song of Ice and Fire" is a world of low magic and low martial arts. The strongest individual martial arts can only fight against ten people. A powerful warrior will start to be exhausted after chopping seven or eight people in a row.
No matter whether it was Hago or the dozen or so Caskos, none of them had captured more than 20 heads, but Hago actually counted with his carrot-thick fingers for almost a minute.
Finally, he returned to his saddle and brought his head string over to compare with the heads of Bonokor.
Well, the "top student" Daenerys was right, Hago really missed two.
"Bang!"
The bloody heads rolled on the ground, covered with a thin layer of dust, like fried chicken legs covered with bread crumbs.
Hago threw his head string away angrily, pulled out a woman in her thirties from the "sheep man" slave team beside him, and ignored her screams and struggles, and did not care that Khaleesi was right in front of him, and directly untied his sheepskin shorts and rode.
The woman's wailing seemed to be taken as an honor by him. He even raised his head and smiled triumphantly at Daenerys. His smile was cruel and full of provocation.
Everyone knew that Khaleesi had violated Dothraki tradition and forcibly rescued a woman who was being humiliated in public.
Daenerys knew that this was a war between her and Hago. She should leave as if nothing had happened. This was the best choice for her and the poor woman.
"Go!"
He gently kicked the horse's belly under his crotch, and the little silver horse left with a light step.
Hago cursed a few words in the Dothraki dialect and rushed into the battlefield. The dying horses were startled by Daenerys and raised their heads to neigh at her. There were also groaning wounded people, licking their cracked lips and calling "Khaleesi, please give me some water." But before Dany could move, a jakaran trotted over.
"I'm sorry, Khaleesi, I disturbed you."
He smiled at Daenerys apologetically, and the young man flashed his knife and cut the neck of the wounded soldier who was begging for water.
With the sound of "hissing" blood arrows, the wounded screamed and his eyes dimmed. There was no pain or fear on his face, only a faint regret and doubt.
It seemed that at the last moment of his life, he was just wondering: Why don't you let me drink a sip of water before dying?
Jakkaran, the Dothraki who specializes in freeing the wounded, they shuttled back and forth on the battlefield, harvesting a series of heads from the dead and dying.
There was also a group of little girls with baskets, running happily behind Jakkaran. They looked at Dany curiously for a while, then smiled and walked towards the corpse, stretched out their little hands stained black and red by blood, pulled out the arrows on the human body, and threw them into the basket.
The intact arrows were kept for next use, and the ones with damaged tails would be inserted with feathers. The broken arrows also had to have their metal arrowheads retrieved, and slaves or women would reload them on the wooden poles after returning.
Finally, there was a group of skinny, hungry, but fierce-eyed wild dogs. They first tentatively sniffed the corpse in front of Dany, looked up and saw that she did not stop them, then they bared their teeth and started to bite. There was always a group of wild dogs following Khaleesi, as if forming a unique ecological chain on the sea of grass.
Similar things have happened many times, and the dogs have become accustomed to it, and they also thought that the "centaur" in front of them, Dany, was used to it.
"Uh--"
Dany leaned on the horse's back and retched, scaring the wild dogs to retreat again and again, and they didn't even bother to chew the warm, pale white muscles in their mouths.
"Khaleesi, it's late, shall we leave?" Ser Jorah held her shoulders and advised with a worried look.
"Okay, let's go back."
This cruel world has no scruples to unveil Dany.
In the shortest time, she had enough understanding of the environment she was in at the moment.
