He couldn't control himself

"You've broken rule number one, Lucas." Devon said, and Lucas gulped.

When he started at the cafe, Devon gave him a total of five rules.

Rule number one: do not get injured at all.

Rule number two: If you hear weird sounds coming from the back, do not ask questions about them. No reasons given.

Rule number three: try to abide by rule number one by all means.

And if these rules were broken, well, there was no penalty given yet, but since there was a rule, Lucas was sure something would happen if he broke any.

And right at that moment, he had broken the first rule, warranting him a scary view of Devon's angry side.

"I... I'm sorry," Lucas immediately apologized, but his hand kept bleeding. The blood dropped on the ground, and Devon seemed to growl.

Lucas was confused. Did he say something just now?

"Go wash the blood away and treat your hand so it doesn't get infected." Devon immediately said, keeping his face away from sight. "There's a first aid kit in the cabinet. Do it quick."

"O-okay," he stood up right away, but looked down at Devon, who was taking the liberty of cleaning up the broken chards.

He didn't know if Devon had been mad that he bled or that he broke one of his utensils. He just didn't understand.

Maybe he just didn't like the sight of blood, or he felt it was unhygienic. Whatever it was, he was definitely mad at him.

Devon, trying to fight the urge that was growing in him, clenched his fists. Around his eyes were gradually growing dark veins and his eyeballs were flickering from yellow to red and red to yellow.

He couldn't control himself.

"Are you okay?" Lucas asked as he returned from washing the blood off. He had managed to stop the bleeding and wrapped the cut with a bandaid he found in the first aid box.

Devon squinted his eyes and then covered his face with his palm as he looked away.

"I'm going to punish you, Lucas. For breaking the most important rule." He said with a voice that sounded like a growl and Lucas flinched.

His heart nearly jumped out of his chest after hearing that.

He knew it was a bad thing but for some reason, his heart couldn't help but get excited at it.

"I..." Lucas wanted to apologize but he could not find the right words. Saying sorry didn't seem like the best way to calm things. Plus... He was curious about what his punishment would be.

Would it be a simple punishment where he had to clean the entire shop on his own or would it be something else?

His breath itched, curious about what would happen next?

"Lucas, are you...?" Devon looked at Lucas surprised. He could hear his heartbeat from where he was. And though it was beating fast, it was not the way a scared heart would beat.

That was a heart that was beating in excitement.

"Are you looking forward to being punished?"

Lucas flinched.

"Earlier, you confessed and now you're getting excited out of nowhere. Shall I assume you broke the rule just to see what I would do to you?" Devon asked but Lucas quickly shook his head.

"No, it's not like that. I... I don't break the rules on purpose. I swear."

It would be bad if Devon misunderstood him there. He wasn't asking for a relationship with Devon. He just wanted him to understand his feelings.

Now he had created a mess and a misunderstanding.

"I'm really sorry, boss. I... I didn't think this would happen." He apologized, keeping his head bowed. "And I... I'm sorry I got excited. I don't know what came over me but ease accept my apology."

Devon stared at Lucas, examining him carefully with those yellow eyes of his. He was assessing him and wondering if it would be worth it to rake him in.

In the very least, his blood smelled nice. So maybe he could just...

He snapped out of his thoughts when the bell rang.

*Ting-ting*

Lucas turned his head around, wondering who it could be.

They had already put up the 'closed' sign so nobody was supposed to come in.

"Lucas," Devon called and Lucas turned to him to find that warm and gentle side of him smiling at him. "Don't worry, we all make mistakes." He said but Lucas was confused.

He was sure he had been very angry so why the sudden change?

"I'll forgive you this one time." He said, placing his hand on Lucas' shoulder. "And as for your confession..." He paused and pretended to think about it before saying... "Shall we get to know each other more for a start?"

Lucas' eyes widened. Wait, what did this mean? Was he giving him a chance?

"But for now, you should head home. Okay? It's getting late."

There was something about how Devon was rushing Lucas off. It was as if he was trying to hide something but Lucas could not even think that far because he was captured by the words Devon had said to him.

So, the possibility of them being in a relationship was higher than he thought.

His heart wouldn't stop thumping loudly and Lucas' eyebrow knitted slightly.

'Why is he still so excited?' he wondered, and his eyes were glowing with desire. 'It makes me not want to hold back anymore. This one has to be careful when walking around late at night, if not, he might just get dragged into a cave and stripped bare.'

Not only did Lucas' blood smell nice but he had a personality that attracted beasts to want to play with him.

He had to be really careful.

"Then, I'll get going now, boss." Lucas said, bowing his head as he scurried towards the locker room to get changed out of his work clothes.

Devon stood there, folded his arms as he observed from a distance and then sighed. His gullible worker had no idea what he was getting his hand into.

When Lucas was done, he made his way out of the locker room and through the door, only to find Devon talking to a hooded customer.

It didn't look like he was there for coffee. He must be one of those 'special' customers.

"I'll see you, boss." He waved and left while Devon waved back.

The hooded man observed Lucas till he was gone and said,

"He smells delicious."

This remark got Devon angry and he stabbed the table with a knife out of nowhere and said,

"Of course he is. He's mine."
