Dare to Fight The Beast

Ling Yan moved like lightning, swiftly ascending to the top of the cliff.

As soon as he reached the platform at the summit, he saw that the wooden hut from the night before had been crushed by something, splintered wood and debris scattered everywhere. Nearby lay many corpses which was previously buried under snow, strewn haphazardly, some lying down, others sprawled out.

Blood stained the muddy snow a shocking crimson.

These people were different from the black-clad individuals of the previous night. They must have been Mu family soldiers, dressed in uniform leather armor, wearing face-concealing helmets, with badges bearing the character "慕" (Mu) on their chests.

Ling Yan followed the trail of blood down the mountain, the original text's description constantly repeating in his mind—

[After being tormented all night by the Imperial Advisor and weakened by the Fallen Immortal Powder, General Mu Yuan was ultimately no match for the alien beast. Its sharp claws pierced his abdomen, and he died from excessive blood loss.]

This was the final plot point.

[Mei.]

[Boss! A large number of people have gathered near the grain storage warehouse in the east of the military camp. General Mu is very likely there!]

Over the years, the man and beast had developed a tacit understanding. Without needing many words, Mei knew what Ling Yan was thinking.

Ling Yan quickened his pace, rapidly heading towards the military camp, while simultaneously giving Mei further instructions.

[Scan and copy the equipment of the Mu family soldiers.]

[Yes!]

Soon, a set of soft armor replaced Ling Yan's original black night suit, and his face mask was replaced by a helmet.

[Match weapon.]

Whoosh!

A steel sword appeared in his right hand.

Ling Yan lifted his hand, testing the weight; it was substantial.

The sounds of battle cries mixed with the neighing of horses grew clearer as he approached. Rounding the hillside, Ling Yan saw a massive monster in front of a row of wooden houses.

What was strange was that it had the body of an ostrich but stood upright. The thick wings on its back drooped to the ground, clearly more developed than those of a flightless ostrich.

Its beak was sharp and long, and as it shrieked, a row of dense, sharp teeth was revealed in its mouth.

Its thick hind legs were covered in shell-like scales, and it possessed the sharp claws mentioned in the original text, the ones that would inflict the fatal wound on Mu Yuan.

Two long claws, like scythe blades, scraped against each other on the ground, making a clicking sound.

It was enormous; horses looked as small as pet dogs in front of it.

A circle of Mu family soldiers, wielding long spears and halberds, faced this ferocious monster without fear, surrounding it and waiting for an opportunity to strike.

The beast emitted piercing cries from its sharp beak, each one sharper than the last, directly assaulting the eardrums.

Ling Yan quickly spotted Mu Yuan in the crowd.

He was tall and slender, wearing black armor with a pure red inner garment, his appearance truly striking.

Mu Yuan held a long sword, his gaze cold and stern. Taking advantage of the nameless beast's threatening roar, he suddenly hurled his sword out.

Thwack!

The long sword pierced through the scales on the beast's leg, instantly sinking into its thick thigh, and cyan blood spurted out.

Without the slightest hesitation, Mu Yuan tapped the ground with his toe, leaping into the air. He used the sword embedded in the beast as a foothold, grabbing onto its wide, sturdy feathers with his hand and climbing onto the beast's neck.

Seeing this, Ling Yan's eyes flickered slightly.

The plot had changed.

Ling Yan narrowed his eyes slightly, and upon careful thought, it wasn't hard to understand.

Although Mu Yuan had been drugged with the Fallen Immortal Powder by the Imperial Advisor, he hadn't been tormented all night.

Ling Yan had specifically asked Mei to check the original author's setting for the Fallen Immortal Powder. Fortunately, it only had a strong aphrodisiac effect but no toxicity.

Now it seemed that Mu Yuan's power hadn't been significantly affected.

Watching the beautiful general of the Xingling Kingdom ride onto the beast's neck in a few swift movements, Ling Yan's eyes showed a hint of admiration.

"General, be careful!"

"General, we'll help you!"

The Mu family soldiers, wielding long weapons, surrounded the beast, unleashing a barrage of slashes and stabs.

Mu Yuan had already pulled the long sword from the beast's leg and was about to stab down at its sharp, bird-like head.

But the beast was no pushover. It suddenly thrust its chest forward and leaned backward. Mu Yuan swayed, almost being thrown off, but he managed to lower his center of gravity in time, tightly gripping the beast's feathers.

Ling Yan had already blended into the crowd, approaching the beast. He saw the beast flapping its wings, its claws gathering power...

Ling Yan frowned: [Not good, it's going to fly!]

Sure enough, the beast's massive wings stirred up a powerful whirlwind. In the next second, its claws were off the ground.

The whirlwind whipped up snow and mud from the ground, along with nearby fodder, striking everyone's bodies and faces. Clothes not protected by soft armor were torn.

Even worse, some were directly blown off their feet by the strong wind.

Just before the beast soared high, a figure cut through the wind, leaping up and grabbing onto the beast's scythe-like claws.

Before the crowd could react, the beast, carrying the two figures, flapped its wings and flew high, quickly disappearing from view.

Needless to say, in that critical moment, the one who had rushed towards the beast was Ling Yan.

Ling Yan gripped the beast's long claws tightly with both hands, using the strength of his waist and abdomen to quickly climb upwards along its talons.

Although this beast had the head of a bird, it was actually quite intelligent.

It knew someone was on its body, and as soon as it took flight, it rapidly changed direction.
