Chapter 49: Soul Bones

Huo Yuhao followed Kong Deming to the rooftop terrace of the Grand Radiant Hotel in Mingdu. The two of them were silent along the way.

Kong Deming finally stopped at the edge of the terrace, hands behind his back, gazing into the distance. After a while, he spoke.

"Yuhao, do you… truly hate your birth father?"

Huo Yuhao looked at Kong Deming's back and answered calmly.

"How could I not? If he had been a responsible man, would my mother have died so tragically?"

"He had an affair with her and fathered a child—are you telling me he didn't know? A dignified White Tiger Duke doesn't even know what goes on in his own harem?"

Hearing the force in Huo Yuhao's words, Kong Deming felt a deep pang in his heart. This child's only living relatives… were all his enemies.

"Yuhao, from now on, let's not think of ourselves as teacher and disciple. I know I can't give you the family you've lost, but if you're willing, I hope you can treat me like your grandfather. Would that be alright?"

A faint smile rose on Huo Yuhao's lips, and the darkness in his heart seemed to fade away.

"Alright, Grandpa."

Kong Deming smiled too and nodded with satisfaction.

Then, he took out a soul bone from his soul tool and handed it to Huo Yuhao.

"The Ice Jade Scorpion Left Arm Bone. Hongchen asked me to give it to you first."

Huo Yuhao nodded, taking the soul bone and storing it away.

It seemed Jing Hongchen had already attended the auction and purchased the crucial Ice Jade Scorpion Left Arm Bone and the Snow Empress embryo.

Originally, Jing Hongchen had planned to go there anyway, but Huo Yuhao had timed it perfectly, using the excuse of his prophetic sense of fate to send him ahead.

Huo Yuhao's exact words had been: "Master, there's a soul bone in that auction that would be extremely beneficial to me, and another item that's perfect for you. Please make sure to bid on both."

So when Jing Hongchen saw the Snow Empress embryo and the Ice Explosion Technique embedded in the Ice Jade Scorpion bone, he became completely convinced of Huo Yuhao's uncanny intuition.

"There are also the appraisal results from that old man from Shrek Academy's two soul bones. Let me tell you about them—see if any suit you. Take them if you like. I don't need soul bones anymore."

Huo Yuhao's eyes lit up, and he listened attentively.

First was the incredibly valuable soul bone he'd been eyeing: the one-hundred-thousand-year right arm bone.

"This right arm bone comes from a land dragon king approaching two hundred thousand years in age. The specific ability is undetectable, but it's likely connected to Xuan Zi's most powerful skills. Who knows what kind of luck that old guy had, managing to absorb such a beast soul bone with just nine rings."

"A hundred-thousand-year-old dragon, even a sub-dragon, isn't something you can just use casually. So, Yuhao, what do you think—interested?"

Huo Yuhao nodded. Kong Deming handed him the soul bone, reminding him:

"Dragon-type soul bones are extremely domineering. You're not ready to absorb it yet. When your body strength hits the mark, come find me and I'll supervise the process."

In that moment, the Skydream Iceworm—resting comfortably beneath the Life Sun in Huo Yuhao's spiritual sea—yawned and said:

"Yuhao, this kind of soul bone is no joke to absorb. But don't forget, your body has already been completely reforged by the power of life."

Huo Yuhao, who had been disappointed about not being able to absorb the bone immediately, suddenly realized.

'That's right. My body now is practically immortal. Even if the soul bone tries to destroy me from within, my natural regeneration can handle it. If I got shot through the stomach with a soul tool cannon right now, I'd be good as new in ten minutes.'

After a moment of hesitation, Huo Yuhao decided to tell Kong Deming about his physical condition.

Kong Deming listened in shock as Huo Yuhao explained the unique nature of his current body. Of course, Huo Yuhao omitted many secrets that couldn't be revealed and replaced them with believable fabrications.

Before Kong Deming could stop him, Huo Yuhao took a soul tool blaster and fired a shot directly into his abdomen.

"Yuhao, you—!"

To Kong Deming's astonishment, the wound on Huo Yuhao's stomach began healing at an outrageous speed.

Enduring the pain, Huo Yuhao forced a smile and said, "See, Grandpa? I wasn't lying."

Kong Deming sighed and conjured a chair from thin air, motioning for Huo Yuhao to sit and rest.

"Indeed. A body like yours might be unique in the whole world. But promise me—don't ever do something like this again. Next time, just let me supervise your soul bone absorption when you're ready."

Huo Yuhao scratched his head with an awkward grin.

Then, Kong Deming brought out a second soul bone.

"This ten-thousand-year left arm bone comes from a Shadow Spirit Ape. Its skill is Shadow Walk. It lets the user enter a shadow space that's detached from the physical world and travel between shadows. Not bad. Do you want it?"

Huo Yuhao thought for a moment and shook his head.

'It's a good soul skill, but not as powerful as the Ice Explosion Technique from the Ice Jade Scorpion bone.'

"Grandpa, I'd like to give this one to Meng Hongchen."

She probably hadn't absorbed any soul bones yet. Honestly, who else on the continent could say, at just twelve years old, they already had a torso bone, a left arm bone, and a right arm bone—one of which was one hundred thousand years, and another even four hundred thousand?

Most young soul masters didn't have a single soul bone yet.

Kong Deming gave Huo Yuhao a sly look, which made him a little embarrassed. Thankfully, the old man didn't say anything and simply handed over the soul bone.

Huo Yuhao stored it away, then watched as Kong Deming brought out three more soul bones.

"The three soul bones given as champion rewards have all been identified. Any of them catch your eye?"

Huo Yuhao shook his head without hesitation.

"No need. The rest of the team deserves their share of the reward too."

Kong Deming looked at him with pride.

'What a good grandson—well-fed and still knows to show courtesy and generosity.'

Though, in truth, Huo Yuhao had a bit of a stingy side. If these soul bones had been one hundred thousand years, he might've taken them all.

But none of these were of that tier, and Huo Yuhao wasn't too interested. With his future prospects, he'd have plenty of chances to find even stronger soul bones.

Especially since he now had the Snow Empress embryo.

If things went as planned, he would absorb her before she self-destructed. At that point, wouldn't he essentially have a seven-hundred-thousand-year soul bone?

'Cough… that feels a bit disrespectful to the Snow Empress,' he thought.
