Chapter 57: Electricity

Although Huo Yuhao had read the original work and heard about the scale of the Mingde Hall, seeing it with his own eyes still far exceeded his expectations.

Looking at the high-tech scene in front of him, he instantly felt disconnected from the outside world, almost as if he had returned to his previous life.

Even though Jing Hongchen was walking casually through the bustling Mingde Hall, very few researchers greeted him. Most were so focused on their work that they paid no attention to their surroundings.

Jing Hongchen didn't seem to mind and walked calmly toward the depths of the hall with Huo Yuhao following behind.

As they walked, a scholarly man in a white lab coat with glasses blocked their path.

"Hall Master Hongchen, I have something to show you."

Without waiting for a response, he turned and started walking as if expecting them to follow.

Jing Hongchen chuckled, shook his head helplessly, then followed. "Yuhao, come along. The one who just called me is Xuan Ziwen, an eighth-ranked soul engineer, and the one I mentioned before who's researching the sealed baby bottle."

Huo Yuhao suddenly understood. 'No wonder this guy acts like nothing else matters but research. The fact that he said even a few polite words to Jing Hongchen already surpasses his usual emotional intelligence.'

Jing Hongchen and Huo Yuhao followed Xuan Ziwen into his personal research lab.

Yuhao curiously looked around the soul tool workstation, which was filled with various types of baby bottles.

Then, Xuan Ziwen, without even bothering to ask who the kid behind Jing Hongchen was, completely ignored Huo Yuhao.

"Hall Master Hongchen, this is the latest baby bottle I've developed. Take a look."

Alright then, not even a 'you' or 'sir.' Straight to business.

Jing Hongchen accepted it with interest and examined it briefly. Then he sighed and returned it.

"Not bad. The soul power loss is much slower than before. But it still doesn't meet the requirements for fully storing soul power. It's not practical."

Xuan Ziwen nodded.

"Exactly, Hall Master. That's the problem. I've tried eighty-six different methods to reduce the soul power loss in these bottles, but none have worked ideally. Do you have any better ideas?"

"The core issue is that soul power itself is hard to control—it's a volatile form of energy. It disperses too quickly and penetrates too easily. In my view, we need to find a rare metal that can contain soul power effectively. Only then can we get it to stay inside the bottle. Such metals do exist, but they are far too rare to allow for mass production."

Huo Yuhao also nodded to himself. 'I've heard this in master's lectures before.'

'Is soul power really that hard to handle?' Huo Yuhao furrowed his brows. 'Then... what if we stored it in another energy form?'

Hearing Huo Yuhao speak, both Jing Hongchen and Xuan Ziwen were momentarily stunned.

Xuan Ziwen finally noticed the kid trailing behind Jing Hongchen.

Even though he was just a child, Xuan Ziwen didn't dismiss his comment.

"Another energy form? But soul tools run on soul power. If we're to change the form, what would we even use?"

Jing Hongchen didn't speak, clearly interested in observing this exchange between his prized disciple and Mingde Hall's chief researcher.

"My idea is to use the soul power in the bottle to generate a different form of energy, store that energy somewhere more stable, and then convert it back into soul power when needed. It's like rerouting the soul power. Sure, there might be some loss during the conversion, but I believe it's still better than letting the soul power leak out like it does now."

"This would essentially change the bottle's function from storing soul power directly to converting and storing it as another form of energy."

Huo Yuhao's thought process was clear and straightforward. Jing Hongchen and Xuan Ziwen understood it instantly.

It was a simple concept. But on the soul-power-dominant Douluo Continent, no one ever considered alternative energy forms.

"That's a solid line of thinking. But I still prefer to continue researching pure soul power sealing. First, because finding alternatives isn't easy. And second, converting the energy back into soul power might not be any easier than creating a sealed bottle."

Huo Yuhao nodded. What Xuan Ziwen said made sense.

However, he still believed it wasn't impossible to promote the use of electricity or thermal energy in this world. While sealed bottles were convenient, they weren't enough to support widespread soul tool application across all sectors.

'This world has electricity and magnetism. So does electromagnetism exist? The answer is yes.'

When Huo Yuhao discovered this, he was ecstatic. 'This world shares a similar planetary magnetic field with Earth, and the laws of electromagnetism still apply. That's a lucky break.'

Fueled by interest and inspiration, Huo Yuhao glanced at the blackboard in the lab.

"Could I borrow a piece of chalk?"

He caught the piece Xuan Ziwen casually tossed over, then confidently began sketching on the board.

Jing Hongchen and Xuan Ziwen leaned in and saw what he drew—a basic generator.

Huo Yuhao took out two pieces of polymer refined iron—essentially magnets—from his storage soul tool. These were rare metals used in soul tool construction.

Using the Blade of Creation and Destruction, he quickly shaped the square magnets into concave arcs and used his soul power to make them float in the air.

Next, he took out a square coil attached to two fine iron wires and placed it rotating in the space between the two magnets.

Jing Hongchen and Xuan Ziwen looked utterly confused. 'What is Huo Yuhao doing?'

Then, using his soul power, Huo Yuhao levitated the ends of the two wires and brought them closer until they were just a centimeter apart. A crackling bright current sparked between them.

"Is that... electricity?"

Xuan Ziwen muttered. He finally realized what it was—a device that generated electric energy.

Huo Yuhao nodded. "This is a very basic generator. If we scale it up and use soul power to rotate the coil, we can produce a continuous flow of electricity."

"And for conducting electricity, this refined iron is perfect for wires. It's cheap, efficient, and widely available."

Unlike on Earth, refined iron in this world had much better conductivity.

"As for storing the electricity, we can use this—an electric battery."

Huo Yuhao pulled out a homemade chemical battery.

The chemical elements and reactions in this world were very different from those on Earth, but with a bit of adaptation, he had successfully created a battery based on electrochemical principles.

"And how do we channel this electricity into soul tools? I've already found a way to do it—a core formation of runes that absorbs electricity directly to power soul tools."
