Chapter 31: The Game Has Only Just Begun

My vision swam with shadows and fading light. I thought the nightmare was over.

But as the oppressive weight of the Abyss lifted, something far more chilling settled in its place.

A slow, mocking clap echoed through the broken remains of my apartment.

Clap. Clap. Clap.

I forced my eyes open.

And there he stood—

A tall figure cloaked in deep violet robes, his face hidden beneath a hood embroidered with ancient runes. Where the Abyssal Sovereign was pure, raw monstrosity, this man exuded an unsettling calm.

His presence made the air heavier than any monster I had faced.

"Congratulations, Final Heir," the stranger said, his voice smooth as silk and twice as dangerous. "You've survived your first little rebellion against destiny. But tell me… how long do you think you can keep running from what you are?"

The Queen materialized at my side, still weak but standing tall. Her crimson eyes narrowed like sharpened daggers.

"Who are you?" she demanded, summoning her shadow blade again despite her injuries.

The man chuckled softly.

"A friend… or a reminder. That depends on Liam's next choice."

He turned those unreadable eyes toward me.

"The Abyss may have failed to claim you, but it was merely the first trial. The real players…"

He spread his arms wide as the space around him seemed to crack and shatter like glass.

"…are only now joining the game."

Before either of us could react, his form shattered into violet smoke, leaving behind a single black card floating in the air.

I reached out and grabbed it.

On one side, an ominous rune I didn't recognize.

On the other…

[Invitation: The Court of Eternal Night Awaits You.]

[System Notification: New Faction Discovered—Court of Eternal Night.]Warning: Entering the Court will trigger irreversible events. Proceed with caution.

The Queen took the card from my hand, her expression deadly serious.

"Liam… this isn't just about you anymore. The Court of Eternal Night hasn't moved in centuries. If they're stepping into the light now…"

Her voice trailed off, and for the first time…

I saw fear in her eyes.

To be continued…
