76: He Forgot... Me

---

The key turned with a soft click as Mo Yuwei and Chen Linfei stepped into their serene, tastefully designed home.

The quiet hum of the evening air conditioning blended with the faint scent of fresh lilies placed by the entrance.

The living room was awash in golden light from the chandelier, casting long shadows against the cream-and-ash marble flooring.

Mo Yuwei let out a long breath as she sank into the plush sofa. Her brows were tightly drawn, her lips pressed in a firm line.

She sighed, kicking off her heels tiredly.

Chen Linfei, ever the doting husband, bent down with a small smile and gently helped her into a pair of comfortable slippers.

"You should rest your ankles more," he said softly, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear.

Mo Yuwei gave him a faint smile. "You always take such good care of me."

He sat beside her, gaze steady. "Now tell me, what's going on? You looked like you were ready to strangle someone back there."

She exhaled deeply, placing her hands on her lap. "It's about Lin Yue."

Chen Linfei tilted his head. "Something happened to her?"

"Lin Yue... she once saved a man four months ago. She found him severely injured, lying unconscious one rainy night. No ID, no clue who he was. She took him home and nursed him back to health. He had amnesia. He couldn't even remember his name, but he was gentle and kind. Over time... they grew close. They fell in love."

Her eyes grew misty. "She got pregnant. But before she could tell him, he disappeared onw day without a word. She searched everywhere, Fei'er. It almost broke her. Two weeks later, she found out he was none other than Liang Yexuan."

Chen Linfei froze. "What?"

"Yes," she whispered. "He had a fiancée. Lin Yue didn't believe it at first. She wanted answers why he never came back after regaining his identity. She went to Liang Conglomerate... You know I helped her join their new project. So she contributed a sketch to the project. He asked for the artist but after seeing her and learning she was his saviour, he humiliated her. Said she was using a painting to approach him. She fainted from emotional stress."

Silence lingered between them. Even the hum of the refrigerator seemed to quiet down in reverence.

Chen Linfei stiffened. "You're saying Lin Yue saved Liang Yexuan?"

"Yes," she said through gritted teeth. "She was heartbroken. Today, I wanted to confirm the truth myself. And now... now it turns out that Liang Yexuan had lost part of his memories in that accident. That might be why he never came back. He simply... forgot her."

A heavy silence filled the room. The truth, though plausible, felt bitter.

Chen Linfei sighed and leaned back. "What do you plan to do now?"

Mo Yuwei looked down at her hands. "I don't know yet. But I'll tell Lin Yue everything. We'll figure it out."

He hesitated. "Yuwei... you know Liang Yexuan. He's cold and proud. If he finds out she kept this from him, or tries to force herself into his life... he might end up hating her."

Mo Yuwei nodded. "I know. That's why we have to be careful. I won't let her get hurt again."

A pause.

Chen Linfei leaned back slightly and studied her with narrowed eyes. "Why are you so protective of her?"

Her expression softened. A nostalgic warmth glimmered in her eyes. "It's not just because she's a good girl. The first time I saw her, she looked exactly like my Second Aunt Tang Suyin."

Chen Linfei's expression softened. "Now that you say it, they do resemble each other..."

She nodded. "Yes. Lin Yue has that same softness, that same grace. It's like looking at a younger version of Aunt Suyin. I don't know if they're truly related, but my heart tells me they are. So until I know the truth... I can't let her be alone. Family or not, she deserves support."

"If we are connected by blood, even better. I'll bring her home."

He smiled and gently squeezed her hand. "Will she agree to come back?"

"That, I don't know," Mo Yuwei whispered. "She seems to have given up on family. But we'll go slow. Step by step."

He stood up and stretched. "Alright then. For now, how about I cut you some fruit?"

She raised an eyebrow. "At this hour?"

He laughed and made his way to the kitchen. Within minutes, he returned with a tray of cut fruits and warm milk. "Eat this, or I'll be forced to spoon-feed you."

She sighed dramatically but took a piece. "Bossy."

"Only with you."

The morning sun peeked through the tall glass windows of the VIP room.

Lin Yue sat up on the bed, dressed in a fresh set of pale pink hospital pajamas. Her face still looked a little pale, but her eyes had brightness.

She was surrounded by familiar faces; Du Liyao, Ma Zhen, and a few colleagues from the design department. They had brought flowers, fruits, and small gifts.

"I'm really fine now," she said with a soft smile, though her voice was still faint.

Du Liyao looked unconvinced. "You fainted yesterday in the office, Yue Yue. Of course we'd be worried."

"Yes," Ma Zhen added. "We just wanted to check on you."

Lin Yue giggled, the warmth of their concern tugging at her heart.

"By the way," Ma Zhen said, eyes twinkling mischievously. "CEO Liang said the project sketch you submitted was brilliant. He's waiting for you to recover so you can present it personally."

Lin Yue froze. Her fingers curled slightly around the bedsheet. "He... he said that?"

"Mm-hmm!" said one of the junior designers. "You're trending in our office group chats!"

Just then, the door opened.

All heads turned.

In walked Mo Yuwei.

She was dressed casually in a cream blouse and beige trousers, her long hair cascading elegantly over her shoulders.

As she entered, an air of quiet authority followed her.

Everyone stiffened.

"Isn't that CEO Mo from GlowVine Cosmetics?!"

"The CEO who made that global campaign go viral last year?!"

"She's terrifying in meetings, my friend interned under her."

"CEO Mo... Hello!" They all bowed, practically in unison.

Mo Yuwei blinked, confused. "Relax. I came to see Lin Yue."

She walked over and gently placed a hand on Lin Yue's shoulder. "How are you feeling?"

"I'm alright," Lin Yue replied softly.

"We... we should leave you two to talk," Du Liyao said quickly, ushering the others out.

As they filed out, Mo Yuwei heard one whisper, "She's way more beautiful in person, but scarier too!"

She chuckled under her breath.

Once they were alone, Mo Yuwei pulled out a thermos and poured some steaming porridge into a bowl.

"I brought breakfast. You need to eat."

"Thank you, Sister Yuwei." Lin Yue looked grateful.

Mo Yuwei placed the bowl in front of her but didn't hand her the spoon immediately. Her eyes dimmed.

"Yue Yue," she began carefully. "I may have found the reason why... Liang Yexuan never came back."

Lin Yue's fingers stopped mid-reach.

Her heart jumped into her throat. "You did? What happened? Did something happen to him? Why did he abandon me? Why didn't he come back?!"

Mo Yuwei reached for her hand, holding it gently.

"He didn't mean to abandon you."

Lin Yue's voice trembled. "Then why...?"

Mo Yuwei's next words were soft but heavy.

"He... probably forgot you."

Lin Yue's lips parted.

Forgot... me?

Her world tilted.
