The door clicked shut, and even through the thick wood, they could hear Fang Xiufang's clear voice instructing the servants not to enter the room and disturb them.
Kong Chengyi turned his head to glance at the door, then suddenly grabbed Hua Lianxi's chin with one hand, his handsome brows furrowed. He said in a low voice, "Scratch? Have you forgotten your place?"
"That was when I was awake!" Hua Lianxi turned her head away, stubbornly meeting his gaze with cold eyes.
A pang of bitterness welled up in her heart, her eyes stinging. Hua Lianxi took a deep breath, forcing herself not to be intimidated by his dark expression.
"Awake? You weren't awake just now? Hua Lianxi, even if you're not awake, don't forget your place!" Kong Chengyi squeezed her chin hard, his face grim as he warned her coldly. Without another glance, he got out of bed and headed straight for the bathroom.
Touching her sore chin, Hua Lianxi pulled the blanket over her head, squeezed her eyes shut, and blinked hard to clear the mistiness.
An hour later, Kong Chengyi appeared in the dining room with his arm lightly around Hua Lianxi's slender waist. A faint smile played on his lips, and he looked every bit the picture of success and happiness.
Sitting upright at the dining table, Fang Xiufang smiled warmly at Hua Lianxi. Seeing her shy demeanor made her even more delighted. She repeatedly urged, "Quickly sit down and have breakfast! Come on!"
Lowering her eyes demurely, Hua Lianxi softly called out, "Grandma!" and took the seat next to Fang Xiufang.
Taking a sip of his coffee, Kong Chengyi looked up at Fang Xiufang's beaming face. "Grandma, what brings you to our room so early in the morning?"
Just as she had taken a mouthful of white porridge, Hua Lianxi choked unexpectedly at Kong Chengyi's words. She hurriedly grabbed a tissue with one hand and covered her mouth with the other, almost spitting out the porridge. The scene from the bedroom that morning immediately flashed through her mind.
Fang Xiufang also quickly grabbed a tissue and handed it to Hua Lianxi. Straightening up and clearing her throat, she said, "Wasn't Grandma just worried you'd oversleep? It's good for your health to get up early and have breakfast!"
"Grandma, are you worried about your grandson's stamina? Lianxi, tell Grandma, was my performance okay? Hmm?" Reaching out, Kong Chengyi brushed a stray strand of hair away from Hua Lianxi's face, looking at her with doting eyes.
Keeping her head lowered, Hua Lianxi wiped the porridge from the corner of her mouth. She glanced shyly at Fang Xiufang, who was still looking at her with a smile. She immediately lowered her head again, ignoring Kong Chengyi.
Fang Xiufang glared at Kong Chengyi, then patted Hua Lianxi's hand reassuringly. She then said, "Lianxi, accompany Grandma shopping later. Grandma hasn't been shopping in ages!"
"Mom, I can go with you!" Lin Xiao, who had been sitting opposite them without saying a word, suddenly interjected. She added with a forced smile, "I know what you like. If I go with you, I'll definitely help you find something you love!"
"You'll come too, but I also want my granddaughter-in-law to come. What a blessing it is to have my granddaughter-in-law by my side! I need to make all the other old ladies jealous!" Fang Xiufang pretended to glare at Lin Xiao, as if displeased with her butting in. She then turned back to Hua Lianxi with a smile and said, "Xixi, you have to keep this old woman company this morning!"
Raising her eyes to look at Kong Chengyi, who was still eating his breakfast unhurriedly with a smile playing on his lips, Hua Lianxi forced a smile and replied obediently, "As long as Grandma wants, Lianxi will accompany you anytime!"
Lin Xiao held her chopsticks, her lips moving as if about to speak, but she instinctively met Kong Chengyi's gaze. In an instant, the words she was about to say were swallowed back down.
