Six years ago, Blake remembered it like it was yesterday. Watching my family being engulfed in flames, screams in the night akin to wailing banshees, and vampires attacked every member of his family with their sharp canines.

My father, a strong warrior fighting against terrible evil, told me with hard eyes, “Run, my little brave one. Never look back.”

His father pushed me against the forest, and my family died from the vampire attack. 

I’d been on the run for six years in the underground tunnel; darkness became my world until one day the underground tunnel was discovered by the vampires. 

They entered the tunnel like a deadly wave, capturing each individuals like me on the run, and I grabbed a sword, and I slashed the golden-masked man in the front.

However, the mask didn't break, and the cold eyes stared at me like ice, and the man reached out to grab my thin neck, and he said in a low voice laced with menace, “Young one, you are the first one who dared to attack me openly.”

His smile became sinister, and he threw me to the ground with a painful thud to my spine, and his words brought a chill to my heart, but it didn't erase the hate in me. 

Despite me trembling with fear, I did something bold and outrageous.

I spat in his face.

I woke up with a cold splash on my face. Waking up with a painful jolt of awareness, my watery eyes opened to see the bright light on my eyes. It wasn't pleasant.

I gasped sharply, feeling the cold water on me, and I saw the same vampire yesterday who led me into the prince's room. He was smiling with a cheerful grin at me, and he said in a sing-song voice. "Time to wake up!"

I woke up feeling more miserable than ever. All I wanted was to sleep. Looking out the window signals that it's too early for this chirpy vampire to wake me up. I almost held back my annoyance and asked, "What are you doing?"

Despite holding back my annoyance, the chirpy vampire wasn't annoyed by my attitude, and he said with a friendly smile, but the seriousness in his eyes was real, "You need to get dressed. The prince won't wait for you. He's not as patient as he looks."
