WILDFIRE

The bats flapped their wings, causing dust to fall from the ceiling like snow, but dark and black. Then the bats flew downwards like falling cones before they stared straight at us with eerie eyes, then flew straight at us in our direction.

My heart pounded like a drum, and the prince firmly gripped my wrists, pulling me into his side. The weirdest thing was that they didn't come near us or attack us, but they flew around us like they were trying to avoid a dangerous predator.

I lifted my eyes toward the prince. Was it because he's a vampire? I wondered mutely.

Sharp squeaking sounds echo around us like the thunder of a storm. Loud and deafening.

I don't know how long we stood there watching hundreds and hundreds of bats fleeing the cave like a wave. Before I knew it, the cave was silent since it was only us now.
