I led the body snatchers away from Avalia's body, I told them that my niece would be rescued in the state she is in, or we would have an all-out war. The Body snatchers conceded, and they transported us all to an isolated location. Every single one of the kids that had been taken over were present, they made a flying v formation as they confronted me.
"So, all this, just so we could talk. Was it worth it?" The snatcher who took over Avalia's friend Jeremy approached me. I couldn't completely tell where they have taken me, but I do know that there isn't any type of temperature like this. Living in Massachusetts we have all seasons. Even today specifically, seeing that we are at the end of winter early spring, we only have splashes of hot days. Where I am standing, in a long-sleeved dress shirt, stretchy black pants and a jacket. I might as well be going to see the pyramids. I am standing in the desert. Could it be I am in Cairo?
"The way of life here is completely delusional. They don't know authority when they encounter one." The leader said.
I laughed.
"Authority? You took over children who were on their way to school. Half those bodies you are in have not even finished puberty yet. God half of us don't stop growing until we are 25 years old. You are talking about authority, all people saw were a bunch of kids crashing and destroying property to get to a car. No one saw Authority." I could see the confusion on their faces.
The realms that had been taken over by my mother or were likely to be next were shut down completely to the human world. 3 out of the 7 other dimensions were completely cut off due to the high risk of invasion. They lost the monitoring of us and how we function, it's been about 20 years since they have been in contact with us personally.
The body snatcher stood in silence longer than I expected, it seemed like they weren't too sure how to respond.
"There is so much difference here. We moved from place to place, human to human and everyone was more different than the last. It doesn't make sense here. Maybe that is why our queen wants to take over, so the people can be one. Where there is no damage in the world, like the damage you cause to each other."
"I know your lying. You have to be lying! Are you serious, right now! I mean come on. Your brain washed. What the hell has that woman done to you?"
"That woman is our Queen and your mother; you will show her respect!"
"I will show her the Christians belief in what Hell looks like. I will make her feel every heart ache she has given to those innocent lives she murders. I will make her pay for everything she has done, that's what I am going to do to her. You understand me you parasitical bastards. Your queen is nothing but a wannabe Lilith but doesn't quite cut it."
My unhealed childhood trauma came out full force at this point. As soon as they said my mother was right, my blood boiled. Unfortunately, now so does theirs, I let my emotions get to me forgetting that some of the kids were still alive in those bodies.
Their faces turned devious; smiles crept onto the kid's pale skin. Terror struck through my body; the body snatchers who still possessed human life inched their way up to me. Every step they took, the kids' skin shivered and prickled, the original skin color of the kids was going mute. It was like the body snatchers were molting the skin, which means they are shedding the human parts of the body. They were killing their hosts, and there is nothing I can do about it except watch in horror.
Normal people would just watch and prey that the kids could be happy after the fact, have a swift death and live with their loved ones wherever they go. However, I know better, I can hear them. All the kids, screaming for someone to help them. Their pain, so horrendous they can only cry and plead. The reaper in me can hear it all and see. I can see the kids being torn from their bodies, crippled into a spirit undenounced to them. Shredded down to a hell they were not supposed to be in because these assholes said I want your body.
I watched the last soul clasp out of her body, and I could swear I heard her ask why. I stared at the empty shelled children, as the snatchers drooling with contempt were just staring back at me.
"You all are disgusting! How dare you sever the lives of those innocent kids. My mother taught you well." There was a rock in my throat, and I was trying to hold back tears. But I couldn't.
"May your God's have mercy on your souls. Because I will not!" A breath of death hit my lips, and I felt my power surge through my body. My eyes filled with tears; my body flared with blue flames.
"I'll make you pay for every child you ripped from their bodies too young! I will make you feel ten times the pain they did." I shouted. My eyes fixated on the body of the girl who asked why her. Her body is small and skinny. Her hair dirty blonde, eyes hazel. She had a future, she was still so young, 14 years old, just making friends in a new school and they take her life away. All she wanted was to be a teenager, not having to worry about her family troubles, taking care of her younger siblings, to be free for a few hours without the weight of the world on her shoulders. And this is what they give her, a ticket far past hell.
I'm going to start with the one who stole that innocence from her. My double Scythes formed in both hands and my fire immersed into them in equal energy. Power surged though the blades. I spun my body in a dancer's tide; I could sense my two targets and their positions. Swiftly I thrusted the blades to the ground. Blue lightning tore through the desert sand hitting the blonde-haired girl and the brunette-haired girl who hung closely to the leader. The Blast will only hit the imposter not the body, so the Evalute Bureau can return the bodies to their loved ones as put together as possible.
The screams of the body snatchers gave me pleasure, but the lifeless bodies falling to the ground did not.
"Simma!" The leader of the body snatchers yelled. The leader ran to the brunette girl who laid Awkwardly in the sand.
"Simm, Simma! You killed my wife!" The leader screamed in rage.
"You killed 20 teenagers. I told you I would make you pay." The leader slowly rose up from the side of his deceased wife.
"I will kil…" It wasn't necessary for him to get out his words, because I was going to kill him anyway. Four swipes on each blade killed everyone but two. I walk to them as they cower to their knees. I kneel to the one girl; she took over a senior's body. The lifelessness in the eyes made me just want to slaughter the last two but I needed to send a message.
"I want you to go back, and report to my mother. I want you to tell her That I will be the last one she sees before I present her soul to Alia. I am the Monster she created, and I will end the suffering of all." The terror in their faces made me pleased.
"Leave!" I could tell the body snatchers had left the bodies and frayed off into the desert in whatever animal closest to them. I heard the bodies drop to the sand.
When I sensed they were out of sight, I bawled my eyes out. I thought I could save them. I tried to save them. but my temper, it got in the way. What am I going to tell Avalia? I cried for, I don't know how long. But when I got my sense back slightly, I called it in to the Evalute Team.
2
I watched from a far, while Evalute's Team carefully collected the children. I couldn't help but cry as I watched them cover all 20 bodies.
"This was not your fault, Lithia." I heard my partner say. I knew it wouldn't be long before my own company found me. "Those deaths were not on you. If you keep looking at it like this, you will break." I took a deep breath in and held it for as long as I could.
"I wanted to save them. They should have been saved, even if not by me, by someone. Why, why were they not spared?" I felt my partner put her hand on my shoulder, but I brushed her off. I heard her sigh and move to my side. I could see her boxed- dyed red hair flowing in the wind next to me.
"Do you want to stop and get a drink before we go debrief?" I looked at my longtime partner in crime Serafelle. We met in high school; her and Dawn were always at odds with each other. Serafelle is more like me, misunderstood, wanting to do good when everyone thinks you're evil or going to be. She is my doppelganger with white skin and originally a blonde. She knows me inside and out, just like Dawn.
"I don't drink alcohol, remember?" Serafelle looked at me with her one black iris and her one Glaring red iris.
"I never said alcohol, did I? I just asked if you wanted a drink. I was thinking Starbucks with the liquor store near it and drink them on the way to Florida." I sighed.
"So, I am going from suffocation desert heat to a place where the weather thinks it's a mental disorder? Rain should not cut off in the middle of a highway, why is there a wall of rain still going and I'm still on the same highway in the sunshine. Do you have a least a change of clothes for me?" Serafelle cocked her head to the right, motioning to get into the Aerojet. I nodded but I took one more glance at the scene.
"Why is Dawn down there?" I caught a glimpse of Dawn talking to another officer. She looked noxious. Her whole body looked thrashed and her face pale. She nodded at the officer and walked out to a part of the desert that was unoccupied by anyone. Then she scanned the area but not on the ground, she scanned the outer reaches. She was looking for me.
"We better get going, you know that girl can spot me and you, anywhere. Do you want that?" I shook my head no, she would stop me if she did. I started back when I felt a pinch in my side, a sense I know very well. I look back and Dawn is staring at me. With her Angil eyes. I looked back and I shook my head no. Dawn is a form of an angel. Dawn's type of angel is a guardian angel, a term you hear often but the way it is used is not quite right. Guardian Angels that you hear about are angels that are loyal to a family or found loyalty to one person But this is not their true purpose. They are here to keep peace and to find a destiny for those who have none and then they move on.
"Lithia?"
"We will talk soon, Dawn. All I need is for you to just take care of Avalia. Please, I- I can't have her getting hurt again." Tears fell down my cheeks.
"Be safe." I felt her nodded and the Angil eyes were taken off.
"You ready?" Serafelle called out. I made my way to the jet.
24 Hours Later…
Shattered Vanguard: Main Headquarters, Miami, Florida
Serafelle Shea, Kensington Davis, Maxine Klein, the head Lawyer of the Team Tristian Cole, and I all sat in a meeting room in silence. Serafelle and I have had a rivalry with Maxine and Kensington for years. Also, Maxine and I both Dated Tristian, she is mad because Tristian said he would marry me, and she was never a contender.
"Lithia? I am…" Tristian started to talk but I looked over at him. I don't really know what my face looked like, but he knew he should back off.
"I don't know why you're so sad over a bunch of silly lives, we kill people for a living. I mean some of us do, some of us give choices and then kill them." Maxine blurted out.
"Seriously, Max?" Serafelle yelled. Her smug smiled pissed me off, I shifted over to the seat near her and grabbed her throat. No one was fast enough to stop me.
"You know Maxine, I have killed filthy drug lords, greedy CEO's, husbands whose wife killed them by a contracted hit man and then I turn around and kill the wife. Though, it's funny, not one of them did anything to me specifically, but you..." I tightened my grip, my eyes peering into her sea blue eyes. I moved my thumb down to her exposed gills. Her siren voice screeched in pain.
"You on the other hand, have blatantly pissed me off. Gone against me in numerous pursuits and I just let it go." Maxine was hitting Kensington trying to get air.
"Lithia let her go, you're killing her." Kensington yelled. Kensington knows better than to get in my way.
"But at this very moment you have touched a raw nerve." I dug my thumb further into her gill, she squirmed in her seat.
"I would never touch an innocent child who has time to have a better life then we do. A child who had a choice of their own future instead of the kill or be killed job we are in." I grew my reaper nails and dug them into her neck.
"My niece was in that encounter. Are you saying her life is silly? Are you saying that the lives of her friends that died for no reason is silly? If so, I will just kill your meaningless, sad, and perturbed life right now." My voice was hitting deep reaper chimes.
"Lithia, please let her go!" Tristian came to my side and gently tried to pull me off.
"Lithia, release her! Lithia!" I threw her to the other side of the room. I watched her regain her breath. Then I shoved Tristian off me and sat back down by Serafelle. Serafelle stared at me in disbelief, she only sees me this way when things have gotten too sour on a mission. But this was a different story altogether. I was breaking inside and if I become too unstable there are action plans put in place to stop me at any cost.
"You're going too far, Lithia." Kensington yelled at me. Serafelle caught me this time before I could move on Kensington as well.
"No more, lithia." Serafelle gave me a dirty look. "Kensington why don't you mind your partner's health before you end up in the same position as her." Serafelle said.
Kensington realized that Serafelle was holding me back this time and didn't utter another word. Kensington moved Maxine and his seat farther away from the two of us. Which wasn't hard, this meeting room seats 40 people. There are only 5 in the room. Serafelle took her hand away and patted my back. She talked to me in telepathy.
"Lee, calm down. I know you're hurting but you need to find a way to fake it until you're not. Or at least through this meeting. We can't give the higher ups any reason to worry. If you need me, you know what to do. Kay?"
"Yeah, I'll behave." I said back. I could feel Tristian staring at me intensely, trying to figure out what he should do or could do. However, all I want him to do in this moment is leave me alone and stay out of things that don't physically affect him.
Tristian and I broke up for relationship differences, he wanted a family life, and he wanted to settle down, and I told him we could. However, I would keep attaining to my goal. I wasn't just going to sit at home, raise a family and just pretend that my mother isn't taking over half of the world. I wouldn't do that just because we love each other. The last straw was when he tried to ask me to quit my job altogether and move into a safe house so we could be a family. I always found it hard for me to tell him no, so my way of telling him was taking a gig for a month in Japan with no contact with the company other than my partner. Let's just say when I got back things hit the fan more than I thought.
Nonetheless, he knows that there is nothing he can say in this moment that would make anything feel remotely better.
We all heard foots steps heading towards the door adjacent to where Serafelle and I were sitting. The doors flung open no less than 2 minutes later. Forming a line of low to high-ranking people, was Dominik Morozov which was Kensington's and Maxine's Agent, Aubrey Hailer was Serafelle and my Agent, Miron Thomas is our High-tech Analyst and Hacker (Wanted in America, southeast Asia, and Australia) and Our heads of the Corporation, Delayna Lissi and Cormac Hagenberg. They all came in and took a seat, Dominik sat near Maxine, Aubry near me, Miron near Tristian and the heads at the front.
I could feel there was something off, they did not ask why Maxine had blood around her neck. They did not question the arrangement of how we were sitting, which means they were watching.
"Down to business. We have urgent matters in the last 36 hours. We need cooperation and we need to be ready. Because these people want Lithia bad, and now they are motivated. 18 different portals have emerged on earth within 19 hours of the time Lithia let the two body Snatchers reach back home. We have alerted the other Bureau's including Evalute. This can turn into a major war, and we will fight it." Delayna said with depth in her voice. She stared at everyone in the room. I could see Aubry in the corner of my eye; she was breathing uneasy.
"That being sad there are precautions that we will have to take while in this. First of all, Quinn, Ronald, and Avalia Munson are all on their way to a safe house." When I heard my family's names, I jolted up.
"Is Avalia, okay? Will I also be going with them." I asked them. Cormac stood up from his seat and looked me in the eyes.
"Your niece woke up within three hours after she was rescued. She has been asking for you to let her know that you are okay. Your friend Dawn Confirmed you were alive, but she did not confirm that you were okay. I can now see why. Your niece was put at ease until she was reunited with her parents." Cormac Paused for a second.
"I'm sorry but, no, you will not be joining them for now. We will explain everything in time, I promise." Cormac sat back down and gestured for Delayna to speak again. Delayna nodded and resume where she was.
"There is only a small amount of people who know where the family are, and they too are in the area with them. While they are safe, we will be cooperating with The Palm Aura Gild's and The Belgian Order. Maxine and Kensington will be going to Belgium and work with the crew there, Dominik will be attending with you. You all will be transferred over there for the time being."
"Transferred!" Maxine screamed, coughing within seconds from the aftermath of being choked out. As she got a hold of herself, she continued. "Why are we being transferred, we have been loyal to you and this company. Why would…"
"Loyalty can change when you are beefing with our enemy's sheer prize! What if you are at the lowest point and you know exactly where Lithia and Serafelle are stationed? Who knows if you would make a trade with whoever is threatening you to save your own self? It's not like you two haven't done it before. Is it." There was silence on Maxine and Kensington's end.
I grabbed Serafelle's hand and gripped it to no end, my blood fiercely boiled in my body. I tried to keep myself as calm as possible. The thing is Serafelle gripped back, the realization that the people Maxine and Kensington betrayed may have been her and her other Partner, which is why Serafelle's Iris is permanently black in one eye.
"We can not have any mess ups, even if that means letting some of our own go. Even for a short time, just know that we are still the ones who sign your check so the reports we get back for you will be reflected on your pay. And don't worry, it's not all word of mouth. Anyhow, the person that will be with The Palm Aura Gild will be Tristian. They have asked for you numerous times, but we had no reason to concede in their request until now. The Gild will personally be handling legal matters for our bureau, Evaluate's and Valenite until all matters are settled. Every bureau will have one or two representatives go there and we picked you. You have never let us down before and we are not expecting you too now." Tristian nodded in agreement, but his demeanor said otherwise. He looked right at me after he agreed to the head of our company. His eyes had fear in them, he was scared for me.
"Now for the main event, Lithia, Serafelle, and Aubrey you will be working with a vast team. Members from all companies. Everyone from people who are involved in both our line of work and the legal side of the game. However, that information is for certain ears only. Lithia, you will have an evaluation on your psyche before we continue, to know where your mental state is. Then we will proceed accordingly. So, for right now, Dominik take your team to the jet, your ride is here. Be careful you three, you're not allowed to die on us." Dominik got up but Kensington and Maxine were still frozen to their seats. Dominik yanked both of them out of their chairs and moved them towards the door.
"Tristian you will be here for a couple more days so I will just ask you to remove yourself from the room. Without any questions nor objections, we understand your relationship between the other team, but you do as we tell you." Tristian looked at me one more time and then looked at Serafelle, who gestured him to leave. I could see a tear falling from her face. Tristian, other than me, was a huge support for Sera and she knows he is breaking inside.
"Serafelle, while Lithia is getting her evaluation, you will be in training and so will Aubrey."
"Why Aubrey, she is an agent/ consultant?" I asked, the first time I could honestly get a word out without attitude or crying.
"Not anymore. Aubrey is reactivated. Serafelle will be helping to train her in the ways of the world of fighting now. Although, Serafelle, you will be a guide, not a teacher. We have people for that. You both will also be gaining new knowledge when Lithia comes to train with you. Other than that, you are all dismissed. Lithia you will come with us to the evaluation room." I nodded.
3
Aubrey and Serafelle got up from the table and made their way out of the room. I remained seated staring back and forth from each of the main bosses. Delayna smiled at me, while Cormac glared with contempt in his eyes. I, again, don't know how my face is coming off to them, but I do know that my feelings right now are very mixed. I fear they are not doing this evaluation for my benefit, but for their own, to know how I will act within the time frame they will be needing me.
"Are you ready?" I heard a lot about Delayna Issi, she was open arms when I wanted to come work for her. She dismissed all of her board's objections with about three sentences. "If I didn't make this company, with Hagenberg, does that mean you would also turn me away? I mean both my parents were two of the most notorious villains known through the 5 dimensions. What is the difference between me and her?" The board retracted their rejections quickly, and I have been their main prize for a while. Delayna and her sister Sadetta came here with their distant aunt at around the age of 10. Her aunt raised them until she was killed by a mob of 65 people. She had a raw feeling to keep the girls away from the house, she told them to go over to sleep at a friend's house. She did this because the girls had very different friends so she knew that if word got to anyone in the area where they were, they wouldn't be together.
Delayna told me when I first accepted the position that I reminded her of herself, but to not prove her wrong and find out I am more like her sister. Which is funny because her sister didn't turn out bad, she was just more in that range of once danger was out of the way, she disappeared off the face of the earth. When Delayna finally found her again around the age of 32, Sadetta wanted nothing to do with her, and she said to leave and never come back. She blamed Delayna for looking too much like her mother and that was why their aunt died, and she also blamed Delayna for being the reason they had such a ruff life. Delayna turned away and never looked back no matter how much it crushed her.
"Yeah, I guess." I got up and so did the two heads.
"Cormac, why don't you go and make a call to Diki. I will take Lithia downstairs, is that okay?" Hagenberg looked at Delayna intensely for a good half a minute. He looked at me before leaning to kiss Delayna on the cheek and then left the room. Delayna walks towards with a smile still intact.
"Don't worry about him, ever since we got married 5 years ago, he has been 30 times more overprotective." I looked at her.
"I wouldn't blame him, I heard there was two assassination attempts on your life. One during your wedding and one on your honeymoon. It makes sense more than you think." As I said this, I could hear my voice coming off sounding dry. I had no emotion; it was sounding just slightly above monotoned. I could tell she heard it too, it's not normal for me to have no amount of amity in my voice no matter what the problem is.
"Your right, I didn't think that information would get to you all so fast, but what do I expect. You are all very loyal, I heard that so many volunteered to come and stand at every perimeter just to make us feel better. Thinking about it now, we should have accepted that offer. However, should of, would of, could of, doesn't do anything when it's in the past and we can't go back. Anyway, lets get moving." Delayna was very cool and calming, with my experience there are scarce times when this reaction is a good thing. When being rewarded, or when you are getting promoted or accepting an honor for a mission. The other side of her calm and cool is her scheming calmness. Which, at this moment, I'm almost 100%, this is the type of calm she is giving me.
Delayna stepped aside and gestured me to go out of the room. I know where the evaluation room is, so I make my way to the place I know.
"Oh, Lithia, we aren't going to the main evaluation room. We're going to the person who evaluates me personally. We will be leaving the building, that is why I told Cormac that we would be heading downstairs." That is mortifying to even think, that I'm supposed to be leaving the premises with the woman who made this place what it is today.
"Please follow me, we have limited time." She waved her hand at me to come over to her. We took the V.I.P elevator all the way down the other side of the parking lot where again only certain people are allowed to go.
There were about 40 cars in this lot, and we walked past all of them, without a second thought. There was a door at the end of the parking lot. There was a key code, an eye scanner, and a hand scanner, which is pretty standard security now a days. Delayna placed her eye and hand on the scanners at the same time, something in the eye scanner touched her actual iris and I had to look away. I was ready to throw up and I told myself I didn't have to see anymore at that point.
I heard a chuckle echo from Delayna.
"I'm done, come on." Delayna said laughing as I turn back to her. The door was opened, and I walked through without looking at the security system. This next lot had only 4 cars in it.
"These cars are mine, Cormac's, Lio, and Mina's cars. Can you figure out which car is mine?" Almost all of the cars were luxurious and pretty cool, any of these cars I would never even be able to afford a down payment on. But out of all four, and the knowledge I know of Delayna.
"2024 BMW I7 M70 XDrive, right?" This was a luxurious BMW from 2 years ago, beautifully intact. However, the reason I know this is hers is because the first car her aunt ever bought both girls was a BMW series. She felt they were more reliable; she told the girls that she would buy them a brand-new BMW for each of their 16th birthdays no matter what the year was. Sadetta got a 2003 BMW M3 and a huge party with all of her friends. When Delayna turned 16 two years later, she did get the BMW and a small party because she wasn't a party person like her sister. It was a great time, but it was the last thing her aunt was able to do for them. Their aunt was killed not even 6 months later. Delayna will buy a BMW series, to make her feel closer to her aunt.
"Yes, no matter what, I have to have some kind of BMW in my line of cars. To feel like I am loyal to my aunt. She was the world to me, just like your family is to you." I caught her smirking in the corner of my eye, and I didn't like that. We jumped in the car and drove for about 45 minutes. It was pretty much a silent ride of side glances and awkward moving around.
Delayna pulled into a place where I would bet 50 bucks. Her car wouldn't be stolen but stripped for parts. The only thing left of it would be the exterior of the car, but honestly, I highly doubt even that would be left. The place looked like an old, abandoned factory that had at least 8 different parts to it. We passed 2 large buildings aging like they were placed in the middle of a jungle and haven't been touched for a century. At least one of the buildings had a label that I could finally make out. It read: Norse & Picket CP.
I remember this company, all their assets were seized because their bosses' partner was a crime lord/ Yakuza. When the Yakuza leader realized his partner's family was taking advantage of their profits, he killed them all and sent all the fraud charges to the police. The Yakuza's criminal ties were separate from the actual work he did with this company, so he had nothing to lose. Also, he had an alias, the person he was on the paper trail was not squeaky clean but clean enough not to look suspicious to any police organization. I wonder if Delayna has ties with this man. I heard we had something on him, then the mission was dropped, and he was put on a protected list, where we can't touch him, he was a client.
As we approached the third building, Delayna rounded into the spiraling parking lot. I have a feeling this is one of the main offices on the property. I remember how the company worked from a field trip I went on. There were two or three separate offices on each site, these offices housed, property management, legal teams, advertising, etc. They wanted to keep everything is sight, when I heard that I always thought Close nit, and closer rats. When I was in 7th grade, we took a tour of one of these places, in Stratford, CT, not too far off from the main area of the town. It was actually placed in a heavily active area. All of us were amazed how hard it was to get into the site in all. Funny enough, I am not talking about the security, but the sheer traffic. If one bus went through the line of cars blocking the entrance. The other one had to wait at least 10 to 15 minutes before it got through. We toured mostly the office buildings other than the actual factory, for liability reasons. This spiral parking lot reminded me of the first building we went to on that trip. Which was where the legal team was housed.
I forgot how gross of a ride this was, I remember thinking this was worse than a roller coaster and I remembered correctly. Plus, Delayna drives faster than the school bus, I held on for dear life as she turned those corners. When we finally got up to a straight landing I was shaking and still hanging onto the handle above the seat and the seat itself. Delayna parked in the most random place with no cars around. However, she parked probably twenty feet from a door that led up to the office space.
"You okay to walk?" I looked over at her. Like, am I still hanging onto your car for dear life or am I unbuckling and saying let's go. Delayna gave me another smile, but this one was more sinister. I let go of the arm handle, so I could have a free hand to defend myself if needed.
"Listen to me carefully, these people that we are meeting are not to be tried or played with. Watch your mouth and watch the way you come off. Just like you, they see you flinching and they will slice your throat without a second thought. I don't need you dying for the wrong move. Now be good and we will get through this together." She touched a loose strand of hair and put it behind my ear.
"Oh, yeah and put on your glasses. You're going to need them."
