Not long after leaving the small wooden chapel, Silas encountered Anthony and the others waiting outside.
Silas looked at them and said with a wry smile, "Did you guys praise me behind my back? Why do I feel like the Archbishop has very high expectations of me?"
"We were just telling the truth," Sister Marlene said with a smile on her lips, shrugging.
Father Anthony patted Silas's shoulder and said, "This is a good opportunity. If you can handle this matter perfectly, then becoming a bishop is a sure thing. Opportunity and risk are directly proportional. Moreover, this mission isn't actually as dangerous as it seems."
Silas nodded. The group walked out of the relief area side by side. Ivan's eyes sparkled as he said, "There are still three days. I'll go apply to the Archbishop for some materials and make you some useful equipment!"
Silas's eyes lit up upon hearing this. He hugged Ivan and said with a laugh, "Truly my good brother! Let's do it!"
"If you need any help, call us anytime. That arrogant Holy Sword Squad looks down on us. When Silas becomes a bishop in the future, let's see if they still dare to look down on us!" Father Harden said angrily.
Mentioning this, a cold glint flashed in Silas's eyes. He glanced back and said calmly, "Don't worry, I'm very good at dealing with these self-righteous fellows."
Afterward, everyone dispersed and continued with their work.
Although Bayne City wasn't exactly waiting to be rebuilt from scratch, there was still a lot of work to be done.
Due to the preparations needed for his upcoming mission, Silas didn't continue patrolling with Sister Marlene. Instead, he first followed Ivan to his temporary workshop.
These days required a lot of civil engineering and measurement work. Ivan, with his numerous inventions, naturally became the focus of everyone's attention, and a temporary mystical workshop was quickly set up for him.
In this workshop, Ivan had already produced four robots that could automatically move bricks, as well as a spirit level and a length measuring instrument that used electric current to form light beams.
These things provided enormous help to the Church personnel who were currently re-measuring.
Of course, he couldn't accomplish all this by himself. He now had two assistants.
One was Roland, and the other was Evan.
Roland, who had just become a clergyman, didn't have much combat power and lacked a great deal of mystical knowledge.
So, Logan assigned her here as Ivan's apprentice. While learning, she also did odd jobs for Ivan.
And Silas's good buddy Evan came here through Silas's recommendation as Ivan's official assistant.
As a top student in mechanical engineering, Evan had already attracted the Church's attention with his previous improved steam engine. This time, when Ivan needed to do a lot of mechanical design and manufacturing, he smoothly came here to work through Silas's recommendation.
Of course, Evan didn't plan to join the Holy Blood Church. His goal was the Steam Guild, a high-level guild that only mechanical engineering experts could join, which controlled 60% of the patent inventions in steam machinery worldwide. It was the only organization on the continent that disregarded national borders and religions and could thrive in any country or region.
When the two returned, Silas saw Roland with a charcoal pencil,趴 (pā - lying on stomach) on the wall, seriously drawing a one-ring magic circle.
Beside her, Evan sat in a chair, wearing head-mounted magnifying glasses, observing a precision machine only the size of a human thumb.
Both were very focused. Silas didn't disturb them and followed Ivan to the second floor.
The second floor was a place specifically for mystical experiments and inventions. Since it was temporarily built, there were no partitions, and it looked like a workshop of about two hundred square meters.
Various instruments and materials were already placed in the room.
"You didn't destroy Moon Furan, did you?" Ivan asked in a low, mysterious voice after they went up.
Silas nodded slightly, unbuttoned his cassock, revealing the revolver under his armpit.
This gun was now Silas's most threatening trump card.
"That's good, that's good. This gun can protect you well when you go there this time. I originally planned to make you some more bullets, but three days is really not enough, so let's work on other aspects!" Ivan said, leading Silas to the counter on the left side of the room.
"We don't have the conditions to make main weapons now, so I'll help you make some auxiliary items," Ivan said, taking out a measuring tape.
"What's this for?" Silas watched as Ivan carefully measured the thickness of his wrist, the length of his arm, his arm span, his back width, and so on, like a meticulous tailor.
Ivan smiled. "This is something I designed a long time ago. I've always wanted to make it but never had the time."
"What is it?"
"I call it the Ultimate Auxiliary Assassination System."
"What? Have you been infected by Virginia too?" Silas felt a pang in his liver upon hearing this name.
Ivan's face turned slightly red, and he said a bit embarrassedly, "This is a temporary name. I haven't thought of a formal name yet."
Silas knew his personality, smiled, changed the subject, and asked, "Quick, tell me about its effects!"
"Wait a moment," Ivan said, ran to a nearby cabinet, rummaged through it, and then took out a large, dusty piece of paper that looked quite old.
"Fortunately, there's a backup in the library; otherwise, so many of my previous inventions would have been completely ruined," Ivan said with a dejected look.
The day after the Holy Blood Church was leveled, Ivan, still recovering from the shock, discovered that his mystical workshop, along with all his previous inventions, had disappeared. His eyes immediately turned red, and he covered his eyes and hid in an empty corner, crying silently.
When Silas found him, his two big eyes were swollen from crying, looking like a red-eyed rat.
Silas spent a long time comforting him, and these past few days had finally passed.
Blowing off the dust on top, Ivan spread out the blueprint and said, "Look, this thing is like a close-fitting garment. You can store some small tools and weapons in the back. Daggers can be ejected from both cuffs, and also small grappling hooks. The grappling hook line is made of fine steel wire, with an effective ejection distance of twenty meters, and can withstand a weight of three hundred kilograms. The waist can hold some bullets, potions, and materials. One armpit can hold Moon Furan, and the other can store a secondary weapon for emergencies."
"I've also used a layer of leather armor woven from black wool and iron fibers on the chest, back, and the outside of both arms. It can not only effectively block mystical penetration but also defend against swords and bullets."
Silas was astonished after seeing it. Then, he gestured at the collar with his finger and said, "If you add a hood here, I can not only activate an unparalleled assassination mode but also perform a leap of faith."
"What do you mean?" Ivan was stunned.
Silas coughed. "Nothing, this outfit is very similar to the equipment of someone I know."
"Who?"
"Ezio Auditore."
"Don't know him," Ivan said, scratching his head.
Silas teased casually and didn't say more. He asked, "Can such a precise thing be made in three days?"
"Of course not, from a purely mechanical and physical aspect. But we still have mysticism!" Ivan said, winking playfully.
Silas slapped his head upon hearing this. That's right, if physics isn't enough, mysticism can make up for it.
They even had those era-transcending steam robots and steel airships. Getting a set of unparalleled assassin's gear wasn't too much to ask.
