Lexi
"I'm sorry miss Lexi but there is nothing I can do. Your brother committed a crime, a grave one at that. Possession of hard drugs on school grounds is highly prohibited not to mention against the law,"
"I understand that, but he stated he wasn't the owner of the backpack, that at least should give him some type of leverage, please. He needs this. This his entire life"
I pleaded, trying to get him to see reason but from the look in his eyes and his incredibly stoic expression, I knew I was losing the battle.
A tired sigh mixed with a little irritation escaped his lips and he clasped his hands on his mahogany desk.
When we entered the office, It was the first thing we noticed. A huge mahogany desk with barely anything on it except a laptop and a bowl of nearly arranged pen. The man seemed to be a minimalist. No pictures of his or his family anywhere, if he had one. However, his plaques and awards decorated the wall and it was then I realized, there was no way pleading with him was going to work. He was a minimalist with a controlled ego but that didn't stop me from trying.
"I'm sorry, Miss Cameron but there is nothing I can do. He commited a crime, he's a criminal and criminals have no place in my school. He's lucky he only got a suspension from the school premises, I will not have my school tainted by the likes of him" he said with an air of superiority that grinded my gears and took me back to my childhood where I was bullied by the wealthy all because mother wanted the best education for me.
"Listen here, Dean Whitmore or whatever the fuck you call yourself." I snapped. "My brother has done a lot for this school's football team. He's won more games than I can count. You don't have to listen to our plea but what you will not do is call him a criminal, you fucking fat f…"
"What my sister means to say is thank you for listening," Jace cuts in quickly before I could unleash all my anger on him.
"We'll be leaving right about now. Thank you for taking the time to see us," Jace said, standing up from where he sat and pulling me up. I glared at the Dean who looked a little shell-shocked by my tone.
"Good day, Dean Whitmore." Jace said and practically dragged me out of there.
As soon as we got into the hallway, he turned to me with a scolding whisper. "What are you doing? I thought you promised to control your temper."
"Well, I didn't realize how difficult he was going to be. How dare he speak to us like that?," I said, feeling bad that I may have blown his chance.
"Oh, you mean my many warnings didn't clue you in?"
He had a point but still…
I sighed. I knew I was wrong for yelling but I couldn't help it. Rich people pissed me off and Dean Whitmore was a rich prick that thought he was better than us. Of course he was only doing his job but fuck him all the same.
"I'm sorry, Jace. I was just pissed he called you a criminal."
Jace's eyes softened and he pulled me into a side hug, dwarfing me. "You know you don't have to protect me anymore. I'm a big boy now. Besides, being called a criminal is the last thing that will get to me,"
I nodded. "Well, I still think he could have been nicer with…"
All of a sudden Jace pushed me away and I frowned, blinking at him in confusion until I saw his eyes fixed on a pretty and hot young girl about his age walking towards us.
"Hey, Jace," the girl waved, a smile on her lips.
"Hey Carly," Jace said and for the first time, I saw my baby brother blushing and all I could do was laugh.
The girl approached him. She was beautiful. Curly hair, pale skin that almost glowed, and eyes that shimmered like a fairy tale. She barely glanced at me before her full attention settled back on Jace
"I heard what happened," she said, her eyes flicking to me briefly before resting on Jace. "I'm sorry. I know it's all a misunderstanding."
Jace shrugged, suddenly very invested in the floor tiles. "Yeah, well. Doesn't matter now."
"It does matter. Everyone who knows you knows you aren't a criminal. Dean Whitmore is just being a little bitch as usual."
Wow, she even believed in him.and shared the same sentiment as me. I liked her already.
"Thanks, Carly,"
"Of course. If you need anything. Don't hesitate to call me." she smiled, rubbing up and down his arm. Jace looked like he was in heaven for a minute and I couldn't help but shake my head in amusement.
"Thank you," Jace smiled.
Her phone rang and she rummaged through her bag to pick up her phone.
She looked at the ID and frowned.
"I have to go now but I hope I'll see you around campus,"
"You definitely will, Carly…"
She smiled at him before walking off.
"Ouu,"
"Don't say anything weird." Jace warned and I cleared my throat, trying not to laugh.
"So, the quarterback has a crush,"
"I said don't say anything,"
"Fine, jeez. So teary,"
As we made our way out of the building, someone bumped into me from nowhere and I turned to ask what the big idea was but was stunned into silence when I saw none other than the asshole of wall street staring at me with his intense green eyes. Eyes that once saw every inch of me.
Why was he so mesmerizing? Why couldn't men like him be ugly? Why did he have to be hot?
"Lexi,"
"Richard," we both said simultaneously.
"Are you following me now or something?"
"Oh, don't flatter yourself. I have a niece that goes here." He said, noticing Jason.
"Wait, you go here?" Richard turned to Jace.
"Yeah." he nodded, his eyes flickering to me as if seeking for my approval on whether to talk to him or not.
I'd rather he didn't.
"Wait a minute,.you play football, don't you?"
"Yeah," Jace affirmed.
"I knew I recognized you from somewhere. You're Jason Cameron, Quarterback of the football team."
"Uh, former."
"What happened?" Richard frowned, his smile, slipping away completely. Even when frowning he was hot. Someone ought to do something about a danger to society like him. Maybe look him up.
"None of your business," I snapped, annoyed by his prying and by the fact that he didn't so much as look at me. "Jace, let's go."
Jace didn't move.
I glared at him but he ignored me.
"Long story. I got kicked out for a stupid mistake…"
"Jason!" I snapp
ed and he sighed.
"I gotta go… was nice to see you again, Richard,"
"You too, Jason. And you too, Lexi,"
"Fuck you," I whispered before walking off.
