Retreat

The wind was all she could feel in her face, as she was moved in so many directions.

It was like ping-pong except the ball was moving on it's own, from tree to tree, the speed of each ricochet increasing.

The grunts of pain that filled the air whenever she comes to a stop for a split second, the fast beating of the heart she hears as she laid her head back in the embrace of her savior, was all she could comprehend.

One second she was moving, the next she stops, then came familiar grunt of pain.

Over and over it was like an annoying alarm ringing in her head.

For what felt like eternity it finally stopped, long enough for her to get her bearings and finally look her 'carriage' in the face.

'Max?, but he has black hair, why is it white?. And his eyes, weren't they black?.'

The objects of her intrigue were blood red, putting the color to shame.

They glowed with such intensity and bloodlust, it was nauseating.

She felt drawn in, it was like looking into two pools of blood.

Pools filled with so much blood, you could smell and taste it.

But her entranced state was broken as Max dropped her unceremoniously onto the ground.

"How you are part of the Darkata, I will never know"

Max mocked as he stretched his arms his voice husky and deep, it made Elaine blush.

'Why does his voice feel so.. warm?'

She covered her face with her hands.

'No, no!. I am the mate of his older brother this isn't right!'

Damian on the other hand was too angered to notice the difference in demeanor.

From the boy who shivered like a leaf in a storm a few minutes ago to a more confident man.

His aura was large and comforting, it made you feel like nothing could get past him and harm you.

That was exactly what Elaine felt, her heartbeat could put a woodpecker's pecking speed to shame.

Disregarding the appearance of his opponent, Damien rushed at Max only to stop in confusion as Max just sniffed the air, slightly turned his head and gave Elaine a side eye.

"I can smell your pheromones from over here, man you are shameless" Max said a smirk crawling up his face, a taunting whimsical look

The remark made Elaine blush furiously but more out of shame and anger than arousal.

'This little punk!!!, when we get out of this situation, I'll beat you so bad you will learn not to speak to a woman in that tone ever again!!'

The punk in front of her was anything but little.

Right behind Damien a white clawed hand swiped at his head ready to rip it clean off, instinctively he ducked, dodging the attack by a few inches.

'When did he?-'

Damian wondered

"Mistake number 1, get your fucking head out of the clouds!!!"

A vicious uppercut from Max who appeared right before the still ducking Damian, made contact with his chin and rocked him so hard he almost passed out.

Stumbling back from the blow he fell on his knees, his bottom touching the heels of his foot.

"Awwww you sit just like a good boy"

Max pats Damien, laughing as he fumed.

A vicious swipe came at Max's hand, but it missed, only to be reciprocated with a kick to the abdomen sending Damian rolling.

"Bad boy, baaaddd boy" Max rebuked waving his right pointer finger with a frown in his face.

Red, was all Damian saw as he gave in to his animalistic urges, driven mad with fury for the disgrace he suffered in the hands of Max.

With a furious howl he lunged at his new target, but he kept missing by a few centimeters.

The only thing keeping him motivated was the thought of ripping out the mocking eyes of Max.

Elaine just stared on her knees, the sight of the fight, if it could even be called that.

This was so one-sided, was this the clown of the pack?.

She couldn't believe her eyes, maybe this whole ordeal, the revelation of her sister being alive, meeting Damien, maybe all of this was just a dream.

But what kind of dream was this realistic?, a howl of pain snapped her out of her reverie as Damian's body flew past her into a tree.

"That was quick, now then let's get out of here?"

A hand appeared in her line of sight, gesturing for them to leave, it was Max's.

Max quickly grabbed her and jumped away from the spot puzzling Elaine, but her questions were answered when 10 spears lodged themselves into the ground where they were.

Howl's of other wolves, definitely Damien's reinforcement spread through the forest.

Not losing his momentum Max threw Elaine on his right shoulder and took off, hopping of tree branches, making sure to land on the strong ones.

Right out of the corner of his eye Max saw 2 wolves, each on his side closing in on him, trying to box him in as the remaining ones followed.

'From the looks of it there's 7 behind me, meaning one is attending to that Damien guy. It should be right around this place.'

Max analyzed as he kept running faster trying to lose his pursuers.

'Eh... She's quiet, shameless but knows how to keep her mouth shut'

As if reading his mind Elaine glared at Max, making him smile nervously.

'This woman is crazy'

Just as the two wolves reached him, Max leapt high right out of the trees into a clearing.

His target?

A large river with rocks around it's banks, covered in runes.

He turned around as he decended into the river shifting Elaine's periphery to the river her eyes widening in realization.

'He wouldn't!'

"Ha!! See ya losers!!"

Max roared out as he flipped the bird at the other wolves that stopped chasing upon seeing the river.

With a powerful splash Max and Elaine disappeared, not a trace of them to be seen.
