c64: Soul Dew!
"Come out, Fearow! Yamada-kun, I swear I'll bring the reinforcements back to save you!"
Sensing the situation had turned dire, Mr. Honda swiftly hurled a Poké Ball forward with a trembling hand.
He was preparing to abandon his teammates and flee for his life.
"You coward! Honda-kun!"
Yamada-kun hadn't expected such a betrayal. His furious roar echoed across the cliffs.
"You think you can flee? Did you even ask me? Solgaleo, Sunsteel Strike!"
Chen Xiaoxiao's tone was icy and resolute. There was no way she'd allow any of them to escape now.
Solgaleo's body surged with solar brilliance, radiant enough to rival Sunny Day. Even the thick clouds above began to glow with a gold hue.
With a thunderous roar, the Legendary Pokémon launched forward like a flaming meteor, smashing into the airborne Fearow barely reaching quasi-Elite tier who was struggling under Yamada-kun's weight.
"Damn it Cryogonal, intercept them! Now!"
Mr. Honda frantically commanded his Cryogonal, an Elite-level battler standing silently at his side until now, to act.
But intercept that?
Cryogonal, level 66 at best, might be classified Elite, but Solgaleo is a Legendary-class Pokémon with stats rivaling Champions! A direct hit from its Sunsteel Strike a 100 base power Steel-type physical move that deals double damage to Ice-types was practically unstoppable.
Cryogonal's base Defense stat is a mere 50 one of the worst among Ice-types.
What could it possibly do to block a Sunsteel Strike from a Champion-level Solgaleo?
Block it with a body bag?
Reality answered harshly.
BOOM!
In a single devastating hit, Solgaleo's solar-charged strike tore through both Cryogonal and Fearow in a two-for-one takedown.
Cryogonal, caught directly in the path of Solgaleo's steel rampage, let out a screeching chime as its core shattered and it spiraled out of the sky, its snowflake body disintegrating like glass.
Fearow, meanwhile, cried out in agony as its wings buckled, knocked senseless by the sheer impact.
"Help me!"
Mr. Honda, no longer supported by Fearow, plummeted from the sky toward the chaotic waters below, shrieking in desperation.
The waters surrounding the Seven Star Islands Qixingyan were long known for their dangerous currents and hidden reefs. Japanese agents had marked the region as high-risk months ago.
Falling from this altitude could mean crashing directly onto razor-sharp coral or jagged rock just beneath the waves.
Death wouldn't take long.
"Solgaleo, subdue them! All of them!"
Solgaleo, now fully transformed into its Radiant Sun Phase, glowed with an even more majestic brilliance. Its whole body pulsed with golden energy as if it had become a living piece of the sun itself.
With Chen Xiaoxiao's command, blue solar threads shimmered around its mane, glistening like a constellation as it surged down to seize the enemy survivors.
Mr. Honda, suspended mid-fall, caught a glimpse of the glowing Solgaleo above him and heard Chen Xiaoxiao's voice cutting through the wind so calm, so commanding, that for a moment it felt like salvation.
It was as if he were hearing an angel.
Better captured than dead.
As long as he survived… anything could be negotiated. Apologies could be made. Debts repaid.
But if he died there was nothing left but sea and silence.
---
Elsewhere
BOOM!
The Icefield Bear a Beartic whose power surged to Championship-level after Mega Evolution was blasted directly by Gardevoir's Moonblast.
The Fairy-type energy exploded like a nova, cracking ice and air alike.
Letting out a gurgling roar of pain, the Beartic finally collapsed in the snow, steam rising from its crystalline coat, signaling defeat.
Not letting up, the Mega Metagross glimmering with four brains functioning in absolute synchronization charged straight toward its next target: Dewgong.
Its metallic body gleamed under the snowfall. Lifting a massive limb, it brought down a Hammer Arm with brutal force.
BOOM!
The Fighting-type move super effective against Dewgong's dual Water/Ice typing struck cleanly.
Already weakened by prior damage, Dewgong gave a piercing cry before collapsing into unconsciousness, unable to battle any longer.
"Damn it! Everything was perfect! Why did a prosecutor show up? What was that beam of light?! Why are things spiraling out of control?!"
Yamada-kun's voice cracked with disbelief.
Only Cloyster and Froslass were left fighting, both on the verge of collapse.
Their final line Glalie stood frozen in place, trembling with uncertainty.
Mr. Honda had been captured.
And now?
Now, only despair and burning resentment clung to Yamada-kun's expression.
It had all fallen apart... in less than five minutes.
BOOM!
The last two Pokémon under the command of the Japanese trainers Cloyster and Froslass were swiftly neutralized by the relentless pressure of the Solar Pokémon, Solgaleo, and Togekiss, who hovered with graceful ferocity overhead.
With a final agonized shriek from Froslass as Togekiss's Aura Sphere hit home, the outcome was sealed. The last resistance collapsed with that cry.
Only Yamada-kun's Glalie remained on the battlefield, its frozen exterior reflecting the wreckage of a losing war.
"Solgaleo! Flash Cannon! Eliminate Glalie!"
Chen Xiaoxiao's voice rang out, cold and resolute.
To be targeted by a Champion-class Solgaleo, even once, was a rare distinction. A level 64 Glalie holding out this long could almost be considered honorable—if not also completely doomed.
Solgaleo's body gleamed as silvery energy surged and focused into its core. In seconds, it compressed the light into a tight beam and fired.
BOOM!
The Flash Cannon tore through the air and struck Glalie squarely. The Ice-type Pokémon let out a warbling screech as its spherical body cracked and fell, eyes rolling white.
With that final blow, it was official every Pokémon from the Japanese trainers had lost the will to battle.
"Damn you… damn prosecutors! What are you going to do to me? Like you did to them?!"
Yamada-kun stood trembling, face twisted with fury and despair. The reality had finally broken him.
He had seen Mita-kun and Honda-kun subdued with ruthless precision. His words now lashed out at Chen Xiaoxiao like a last-ditch flamethrower, fueled by helpless rage.
"Of course," Chen Xiaoxiao replied with a faint, mocking smile. "A conscious creature poses far too many risks. It doesn't hurt… to be reassured."
Without waiting for further words, her eyes glowed a bright psychic blue. From both pupils, twin rays of Confusion no, stronger than that Hypnosis fused with a latent Psychic surge, shot forth and pierced into Yamada-kun's mind.
"AAAHHH!!!"
Yamada-kun's scream erupted like a siren as he clutched his temples.
He was being mentally crushed his consciousness frayed under the immense psychic pressure. Images twisted, his nerves flared with white-hot pain.
And then, like a puppet with its strings cut, he collapsed onto the rocky ground with a dull thud, unconscious.
Whether Chen Xiaoxiao had truly meant her earlier words that it "wouldn't hurt very much" was now an open question. No one alive could say.
"Gardevoir. Consolidate their equipment. Check the Poké Balls identify all Pokémon with usable combat capacity. Any remaining ones, disable if necessary. Then return them to their Poké Balls and secure them."
Chen Xiaoxiao issued the command clearly, with military efficiency.
"(Understood, Xiaoxiao,)" Gardevoir responded telepathically with a nod, immediately proceeding to the fallen trainers.
A scan of the Poké Balls revealed that what was left inside amounted to nothing more than a few quasi-Elite Pokémon those that hadn't been deployed due to battlefield limitations.
Gardevoir, using Psychic, pulled each ball from the defeated trainers' belts, inspected the status of the Pokémon inside, and gently pressed the activation buttons to return any that were still out. Then she tapped the lock feature to prevent escape or accidental activation.
Naturally, all high-value items especially battle-grade held items and specialized TMs—found within the trainers' storage devices were also confiscated.
This wasn't up for debate.
Those who knew how such operations worked knew the code of silence in these circumstances wouldn't question it. It was an unspoken rule of the underground trainer wars.
"You stay on guard," Chen Xiaoxiao told the remaining Pokémon under her command, pointing to the secured Poké Balls.
With her orders issued, she stepped forward toward the column of light soaring into the heavens.
"How strange… A light beam of this magnitude should've attracted attention from miles away. Why hasn't anyone arrived yet?"
The question gnawed at her as she stared into the radiant column. On instinct, she pulled out her Pokédex and scanned the area.
"We're only tens of nautical miles from the mainland. But there's no signal at all…?"
Perplexed, she withdrew a standard field compass from her storage bracelet. The needle danced erratically, failing to stabilize.
"A powerful magnetic field," she muttered. "So this island isn't just remote… it's shielded."
The theory clicked into place.
"Solgaleo, teleport back to the shore where we landed. Try to scout the situation at Point 3.3 and report."
She wasn't taking chances.
Solgaleo nodded and vanished in a brilliant flash.
Barely ten seconds passed before it reappeared beside her.
"(Xiaoxiao… the coastline is hidden. I couldn't see anything.)"
Solgaleo's message, relayed via telepathy, confirmed her suspicion.
"Just as I thought. This island must have spatial anomalies… electromagnetic cloaking maybe? Whatever it is, even a light pillar like this is invisible from the outside."
She clenched her fist. No wonder no outside response had come.
Just then
The massive beam of light that had been climbing toward the heavens began to shift.
Its shape thinned, tightened.
The once-pulsing column began to condense.
The shimmering blue silhouette from earlier the one that looked like a figure encased in aura had completely vanished.
At the column's apex, all of its light compacted down to a single shimmering drop.
It hovered, weightless.
A single, ice-blue droplet.
Or perhaps
A teardrop.
