Chapter Nine: Power Surges and Unwanted Secrets

Aria's morning started with a jolt. Literally.

As she brewed her coffee, the electric kettle sparked and went haywire. Water boiled over in seconds, and the lights flickered again.

She jumped back, staring at the kettle like it had betrayed her.

"Okay, kettle, I'm not a magician," she muttered. "Calm down."

The power surge wasn't just a one-time thing. Over the next few days, odd things happened: her phone screen glitched when she held it, her reflection flickered unexpectedly in mirrors, and sometimes, when she got angry, the lights around her dimmed.

She kept it to herself. For now.

At work, Adrian's curiosity about Aria only grew.

He asked Darian, "Anything strange about her? Behavior? Background?"

Darian shrugged. "Besides knocking me out with a flying laptop? Not really. But she's definitely a wildcard."

Zara laughed. "She's like a walking disaster movie, but somehow manages to keep everyone laughing."

Adrian frowned, then smirked. "Sounds like someone I'd enjoy taming."

Meanwhile, Mr. Alaric Dane was not done.

He arranged a meeting with Zara under the guise of needing "legal advice." Zara was suspicious but curious.

When he mentioned Aria's name, Zara's eyes narrowed.

"There's more to her than she lets on," Alaric said. "You'll see."

Lunch with Talia and Kian had turned into a mini support group for Aria's misadventures.

"Have you tried meditation?" Kian asked seriously.

"Nope," Aria replied. "Mostly just trying not to electrocuted myself."

Talia rolled her eyes. "At least you're not boring."

They all laughed, and for the first time, Aria thought maybe she could survive Westwood Enterprises after all.

Back at home, Gramps called again.

"How's the matchmaking avoidance strategy?"

"Successful," Aria said with a grin. "I'm working on a few new tricks."

Gramps sighed. "Just don't forget—some doors close for a reason, but others open when you least expect it."

Aria paused. "Thanks, Gramps. I needed that."

As the week ended, Adrian found himself staring at a photo on his desk—a candid snapshot of Aria laughing, caught mid-chaos.

He smiled.

Maybe this chaos was exactly what he needed.
