Daemon stood at the window of his office, watching the detective's car disappear in the darkness of the forest.
"I can't understand why you let her go. You know this is risky." a dark blonde vampiress told him.
"I agree with Lilith, this was totally reckless. What are you doing of the rule about humans?" said another vampiress who was there with Lilith.
"I did what I thought was right. We don't kill humans, remember? As for the rule, she didn't find anything., she was just being nosy. She just came around, there's no law enforcement here." Daemon replied, still looking out.
"Okay, we don't kill humans but this one came to our land. What if the others decided to follow her lead?"
"they won't. They are too scared to come."
"and what is that, that you need to be sure of?"
"Now if you have nothing better to tell me, you may leave" he dismissed them.
"don't tell me I didn't warn you" Lilith huffed and left. The other vampiress after her.
"are you also going to tell me that I should have killed her?"Daemon asked Nate who was seating quietly in the office all this while.
"No. You did the right thing. Killing her would have had more repercussions." Daemon turned away from the window and looked at Nate.
Nate wasn't the type to boot-lick, if he didn't like something, he would just say it. That's one of the many reasons why he kept Nate by his side and trusted him deeply. "but tell me something Daemon, would you have killed her if the conditions were different?"
"what's the point of this question, Nate?" Daemon sat in his chair and looked at Nate with attention.
"you thought humans didn't look beyond what they see, but this detective, she's different. She came all the way to the cursed lands to find answers"
"there are always exceptions"
"a pretty one, no?" Daemon's eye twitched lightly at his question.
"what are you trying to say?"
"nothing. Humans bring problems Daemon. You know that better than anyone"
"I know but I don't know why you suddenly feel the need to remind me."
"just saying. You will receive daily reports of her movements"
"okay" Nate left Daemon alone with his thoughts.
Daemon opened his drawer and pulled out another book and started to write his thoughts in there. As he wrote, his thoughts wandered to the pretty detective with a defiant gaze. That woman was going to cause him trouble, he felt it the moment he set eyes on her. Her fiery blue eyes burning with unnerving determination, her voice was like sweet music and her smell… the kind of smell that calmed his nerves. Daemon knew he needed this woman was trouble and he needed to keep her as far as possible.
Alyssa woke up the next day with some feather touch on her cheek. Her senses activated slowly but when she was fully awake, she found Alex looking down at her with a tender gaze.
"hey" he greeted softly.
"hey, what are you doing here so early?" she asked, sitting up and stretching in her bed.
"I wanted to check on you. You didn't come to work yesterday" Alex explained as she left her bed to wash her face. The events of the day before came back to her mind. She remembered she couldn't tell Alex, she was bound by the stupid ridiculous contract she signed. "what were you doing?"
"I couldn't come, I was busy" was all she replied before starting to brush her teeth. Alex watched her for a while with scrutiny and then he seemed to have found the answer.
"Aly" he called standing on the door way of her bathroom. Their eyes met in the mirror. "don't tell me you are still investigating that case?" Alyssa didn't reply and just washed her mouth. "Aly" he called with exasperation.
"what? I told you I wasn't going to give up" she turned to face him.
"you need to understand that some cases can stay unsolved and it's not the end of the world, there are thousand of those in the archives and no one's dead" frustration was clear in his voice.
"those case didn't come into my hands. This one was in my hands and I am not going to let it go just like that" Alyssa also felt frustration mount inside her.
"you are not some kind of police superhero to find all the culprit. You are just human and you need to let things go"
"I am not. I have to go to the end of this" she insisted stubbornly.
"you take every case so personal and it doesn't make you any good. Resolving that case won't bring back your father, Alyssa." Silent fell after his sentence. Alyssa's gaze turned unreadable. "Aly, I-" he tried to apologize.
"Leave Alexander" when she called him Alexander, it meant she was angry with him.
"Baby, I am-"
"leave. Now" she glared at him. Alexander knew that in this state she wouldn't want to talk so he just shook his head and left.
Alyssa faced her mirror and looked into her own blue eyes that looked so much like her father's. Her father died when she was 16. He was murdered and his body was found in the middle of the forest. There was no leads to find the murderer so the case was never solved. Alyssa had the ambition to one day find the culprit and make them pay. She put everything she had to find the culprit of every case she was given because it made her feel a step forward towards finding the murderer of her father. Alex knew this was a delicate subject for her. So he shouldn't have evoked it like that. He knew not to.
Alyssa wouldn't give up. There's something in her that made her want to go to the end of this case. She will with or without Alex's help. If Daemon Viserys and his people were involved she would stop them. No murderer must go unscathed after committing a crime. Her grandfather would help her if she gave him proofs. Everything was planned.
Later that day, Alyssa went to work. Alex was there and waiting for her, an apologetic look on his face which Alyssa ignored. Alyssa greeted her colleagues on her way to her desk.
"Alyssa can we talk?"
"only if it is work related, if not we have work to do" she replied coldly. "I received a notification from our informant, we may close the black wing case soon"
"I thought we were going to get the head. We found his address" Alex frowned.
"yes, but why get the leader if we can put the whole band in jail?" she said with a gleam in her eyes. Her phone rang after this, it was their informant. She picked up and turned away from Alex.
