Chapter 20

She stood in front of the castle—her house, apparently—dressed in a silk robe and slippers like she’d just come out to get the mail. Her blonde hair was in a high ponytail, and she was holding a smoothie cup in one hand, sipping through a straw like nothing was strange about any of this.

“Oh, great,” she drawled, eyeing me and Eve. “What, did you two get lost on your way to a Hot Topic photoshoot?”

I was already moving.

“Lily, wait—” Eve started, but it was too late.

I charged.

Cassandra barely had time to register what was happening before I was on her, knocking the smoothie out of her hand and grabbing her by the collar.

“What the hell are you doing here?!” I shouted, slamming her back into the gate post.

Cassandra let out a shriek, kicking at me wildly. “Get off me, you lunatic! This robe is dry clean!”

“You working with Wiltz?! Huh?! That why you’re living in this creepy haunted house?!”

“Who the hell is Wiltz?!”
