Esme stared at her hand, eyes wide with horror. Her already stable breath once again labored and she continued to step backward while shaking her head.
Her actions like that puzzled Grant and he took a step forward but she keeps on retreating from him.
“No,” she said, still shaking her head.
“I don't believed either but it is what it is. None of us can change that,” Grant said. He tried to read her but he couldn't no matter how hard he tried. He just couldn't wrap his head around why she was rejecting what is meant to be.
“You are going to reject me too, right?” She said and he frowned, not at all expecting that statement.
“What?!” He asked in shock.
“Then go ahead and do already. There's no need to waste your time. Just do it,” Esme said, not giving him the time to talk while trying hard to hold back her tears. It was better 8f he rejected her immediately. It would hurt less ans she wouldn't have to delude herself of pillar to lean on when ot would end shattering to pieces in no time.
Just how much was goddess going to taunt her? Was she happy watching her suffer? First her family was taken from and she hoped for a better future but all she got was pain. Then came a mate, a ray of light but that light too was never meant to be and it was instantly extinguished like it was never there. After that what? She was beaten, abused, emotionally and sexually and now this?
“If you won't reject me now then I'll do it for you—” before she could finish her statement, a hand covered her mouth, muffling the rest of the words and her body shook, the words just were just at the tip of her tongue but he didn't let her say them.
“Don't. Please,” he said and she could see the fear in his eyes as if he could not stand the idea of a rejection. The very thought of losing and she was almost hopeful.
“Don't say something like that again,” Grant felt his body trembled. The spark from coming in contact with her rushed through him, clearing what ever form of doubt he had left inside of him. The very thought of her rejecting him now became too painful to bear and he pleaded once more,
“Anything but a rejection, please,” he drew closer to her, his other hand going around her waist and pulled her closer. “Anything. Just don't leave. I can give you anything but that.”
Esme couldn't even open her mouth again. The fear in him seem to have made her waver. Yes, she could feel the mate bond. She may not have sensed him before but the moment he touch her and she felt the sparks, she knew he was her mate. A new mate. A mate she never asked for. Another alpha. Another one who would hurt her.
“I won't reject you,” Grant said, his voice barely above a whisper but it cut through her train of thoughts just fine due to how close they were. She could literally feel his breath on her face each time he exhaled.
Esme didn't reply and just stood there, letting him hold her. His touch was warm and electrifying. It gave her comfort and it was able to take away all of the stress and fear she felt just moments ago but rational mind hadn't been lost just yet. She knew that once he found out she had no wolf, no status not even as an omega, he would reject her without a second’s hesitation.
Seeing her so deep in her thoughts again, he panicked but was a bit at ease when she didn't struggle to leave after he loslosened his homd on her or say anything about a rejection again. How could he bear to be rejected now? Did she know how long he had waited for her? His world would shatter and he wouldn't even resist if his beast went on a rampage because of it.
“Come now, let's get you to safer grounds,” he said as he looked around. It wasn't only the packhouse that was attacked. The entirety of the NightCrawler Pack laid in ruins. Smoke streamed upwards from very side of the pack with the packhouse having it worse than any other.
Esme didn't say anything. She didn't even look at him but he led her away. Grant regretted not bringing the cat all the way here. Had he done that, she would be inside by now and heading towards the capital.
“Where is the car?” He asked Leonardo through the mind link. After Leonardo's reply came, Grant groaned in irritation and immediately ended the link. Whatever Leonardo had told him didn't see to please him at all.
Meanwhile, Alicia couldn't decide whether to follow them or not but seeing how Esme moved like a weightless body being pulled along, she decided to follow them.
It was a shock thay another mate had appeared just three days after one rejected her but she was happy. At least this one didny reject her ans he appears to be even better than her previous mate.
“Are they on the way?” Grant asked as soon as Leonardo caught to them.
“Yes, your majesty. But it would take some time…” he trailed off when he saw esme Tru to put herself free from Grant.
They both looked at her and met her staring g wide eyed at Grant.
“It something wrong?” Grant asked, his tone soft and filled with concern but all she didnt wad stare whike still trying to break from his hold. Then suddenly, she dropped her head.
Grant cursed inwardly. He wanted to call her name but he didn't even know it yet. “Can you tell me what's wrong?” He asked, trying to coax her. But esme only bit on her lips.
Looking at Alicia, the girl's chin touched her chest and she refused to raised her head as if her life depended on it.
What was going on?
