Chapter 10: The Vanishing Book

Lindsay's mind was still reeling from the stories she had read the day before. She couldn't wait to dive back into the book and uncover more secrets. After her classes, she hurried to the library, eager to continue reading.

As she entered the library, she was greeted by the familiar musty smell of old books. She made her way to the shelf where she had found the book yesterday, her heart racing with excitement.

But when she arrived, her heart sank. The book was nowhere to be found. She scoured the shelves, checked the catalog, and even asked Mrs. May, but no one seemed to know anything about the book.

"Are you sure you didn't just imagine it, dear?" Mrs. May asked, her expression skeptical.

Lindsay's frustration grew. "I know what I read, Mrs. May. And I know I returned it to the same shelf yesterday. I even remember the page I was on."

Mrs. May's expression turned sympathetic. "I apologize, Lindsay. Maybe it was a different book you're thinking of? We have many books on mythology and supernatural creatures."

But Lindsay knew what she had read. And she knew that book had been real. She remembered the feeling of the pages beneath her fingers, the words that had seemed to leap off the page.

"I know what I read, Mrs. May," Lindsay insisted. "And I know it was this book. Can you check the library's inventory or something?"

Mrs. May nodded, tapping away at her computer. "Let me see... no, I don't show any record of a book with that title. Maybe it was a special loan or something?"

Lindsay's mind was racing. What was going on? Had someone taken the book? And why was Mrs. May denying its existence?

As she walked to her next class, Lindsay's mind was a jumble of questions. What had happened to the book? And why was Mrs. May denying its existence? And where was Dominic?

To make matters worse, Dominic was abs ent from class again.

Lindsay found herself glancing at his empty seat, wondering where he was and what he was doing.

As the teacher droned on, Lindsay's attention wandered. She couldn't concentrate on the lesson, her mind still reeling from the mystery of the vanishing book.

What was going on at this school? And what secrets was everyone keeping from her?

She felt like she was living in a dream, where nothing made sense and everything was shrouded in mystery.
