The power of a artifact (18)

Acno's POV

Hearing this was nothing I was concerned about. This happens every year and makes common sense.

In the realm of the gods, every five years, a god gets elected who descends into this world. It is both lucky and unlucky because if the god kills around one million people, then he will return to the realm with enhanced power and force.

On the other hand, if he gets killed by a mortal, the mortal will gain a new optional path. The path will adapt to your original one—so, for example, if you want to become an assassin like me, then in the end, you will become the God of Assassins. If there is already a deity with that title, then a showdown between them will begin.

There were only three mortals who passed this path, but all were eventually killed by the Deity of Time. To think that a mortal might gain immortality is a common belief—but being a god doesn't include that benefit.

The evil and cruel deities have their own realm, which isn't—as most people assume—a chaotic world. Records from a mortal who entered this realm showed that it is rather peaceful and harmonious.

Besides that, the average god in the realm of fine gods has a lack of narcissism. Everyone simply likes and believes only in themselves. But if a cruel deity really comes here, I wouldn't be sure what they would do to me.

The director continued her speech.

"If anyone encounters the god or gains information about their whereabouts, please report it directly to a nearby guild. They will forward the information to the Royal Knights. You may leave now."

On the way to magic class, I met Yukinotard. His deep green eyes gave off an emotion of carelessness, and the way he walked was different than usual. Besides that, I didn't know what had happened last night to me and Lutz—we just woke up in the school hospital.

I greeted him politely, and he gave me a shocked look in return. But he greeted me back and asked why I addressed him.

I quickly explained the situation and told him about my wish to join the Revenant Guild.

"I can finally reveal the name of the woman who rescued you," he said. "She's called Ray Obscura and is one class above us. By the name alone, I think you can already guess her temperament. She's very strong and comes from an above-average family."

"But that doesn't answer your question," he added. "She explained to me that after Lutz took a blow from the enemy and fell to the ground, she used the opportunity to strike the assassin with all her strength. That wasn't an easy task, because the enemy used the artifact 'Sacrifice of Heaven.' With it, he can sacrifice a part of his body—or even his life—to gain immense power for ten minutes."

"But apparently, he only sacrificed a finger, so he gained little to no power at all. That alone shows how much strength the Assassin Guild truly holds—and it's a lot."
