Chapter 47

Elena's POV

"Do you think… do you think he followed me?" My voice barely rose above a whisper.

Julian turned to me, firm and certain. "I think he's been watching for a while. He just chose today to make himself known. But we'll track him. I'll double the guards. I'll lock this place down if I have to."

I looked at him. "I don't want to live like a prisoner."

Julian walked back over and knelt in front of me. "Then we fight smarter. We don't let him get into your head. That's where he thinks he wins."

My phone buzzed.

I flinched.

Julian reached over and picked it up from the coffee table. He looked at the screen.

"It's Sebastian."

I hesitated, then took the phone and answered.

"Hey," I breathed.

"Julian told me," Sebastian said on the other end. "Are you okay?"

I closed my eyes. "I don't know."

There was a pause. Then, softly, he said, "Come back here if it gets too much. You're always safe with me."
