Chapter 57

Elena's POV

I walked straight from security to the reception floor, heels echoing with every step. My thoughts were clear now. Focused. Mariah had said someone delivered the envelope personally.

But there was no one on the footage.

She looked up as I approached, instantly straightening. "Everything okay?"

I smiled, but it didn't reach my eyes. "Can we talk in my office?"

A flicker of uncertainty crossed her face. "Of course."

She followed me without question. I shut the door behind us and folded my arms.

"You said the delivery guy gave it to you directly," I began. "The envelope."

She nodded. "Yes, ma'am. He walked right up, said it was personal and for your hands only."

"What did he look like?"

"Tall. Cap. Dark jacket. He didn't say much."

I watched her closely. "Do you remember his face?"
