Chapter 68: Searching for Guns
Although last night's ambush and this morning's sneak attack dealt heavy blows to Gao Qiqiang, he still had about twenty men left and might come back for a counterattack.
Especially after this morning's sneak attack, Su Chen was certain that Gao Qiqiang had guns!
He had sensed it from the beginning.
After all, that short shotgun Su Chen had was obtained with Gao Qiqiang's help.
As a big shot in the underworld, how could Gao Qiqiang not have a gun?
Su Chen sent his surviving men to proactively raid the Lusen Hotel — partly for CPU and the others, but also to confirm his suspicion.
Sure enough, Gao Qiqiang did have a gun.
But Su Chen also figured that Gao's gun either had very few bullets or there was only one gun.
Otherwise, why hadn't Gao Qiqiang's brother Gao Qisheng and Abiao carried weapons when they attacked the Yuelton Hotel?
The reason was simple: Gao most likely only had one gun, and not many bullets!
But all this was just Su Chen's guess.
Although he wanted to finish off Gao Qiqiang and Abiao quickly, he wouldn't act rashly before confirming the facts.
If this were before, he might have sent his survivors repeatedly to wear down Gao Qiqiang's forces.
But now, after constant CPU conditioning, the survivors' loyalty was solid enough for initial trust.
It would be a waste to just expend them like that.
So, how could he eliminate Gao Qiqiang while minimizing losses?
At that moment, Liu Linger had just finished her shower and come out.
Su Chen wasn't thinking about it anymore.
...
No need to elaborate on their wild night.
Early the next morning, Su Chen invited He Wang and Sun Yuan to the backyard office.
"This is breakfast Ling'er made, eat it while it's hot," Su Chen said with a smile.
To please Su Chen, Liu Linger varied the meals daily.
For example, this morning she prepared soy milk and steamed plenty of small buns.
Before the apocalypse, this would be a simple breakfast.
But now, in this resource-scarce world, it was nothing less than a feast!
He Wang and Sun Yuan swallowed hard and didn't hesitate to start eating.
Unlike Zhang Ying and the others, these two understood clearly: their survival owed everything to Su Chen's help.
Even if Su Chen had abalone and lobster in the RV every day, they wouldn't be jealous!
"He Da Ge, Sun Da Ge, do you know if there's a law enforcement station nearby?" Su Chen asked casually, peeling a tea egg.
His short shotgun was at a disadvantage against Gao Qiqiang's handgun.
Though powerful, it had short range, poor accuracy, and was difficult to reload.
It might work one-on-one, but against multiple enemies, it was easy to be outmatched.
If only he could get a handgun like Gao's!
Just yesterday, Su Chen watched a gunfight movie that gave him inspiration.
Given how strict gun control was in Huaxia, only law enforcement stations would have guns.
He planned to search a law enforcement station.
"Law enforcement station? Probably only down the mountain," He Wang said, shaking his head.
There used to be a small security post on Phoenix Mountain with a few officers, handling daily order.
If serious trouble came up, they'd call people from the station down the mountain.
But after the heatwave, the officers either died or drove away from Phoenix Mountain.
Survivors had searched the security post before but found only stun batons and riot shields—no firearms.
"Why do you ask, Su Lao Di?" Sun Yuan asked curiously.
Su Chen didn't hide his plan and explained it to both.
"I see," He Wang said, stroking his chin thoughtfully.
"Your plan is good but probably not so easy."
"How so?"
"A regular security post might have only one or two guns at most. If the officers left, they'd take the guns with them," He Wang explained.
"I see," Su Chen was a bit disappointed.
When interrogating Gao Qiqiang's men earlier, Su Chen learned about the flood outside.
Even if the station had guns, they were likely submerged by now.
"But I do know a place where there might be guns!"
"Where?"
"The barracks!" He Wang said.
Su Chen couldn't help but smile wryly.
"Don't joke, He Da Ge. Where would we find a barracks around here?"
"I'm not joking. There's a place nearby," He Wang said softly.
Su Chen recalled that He Wang was a retired soldier.
"It's not really a barracks, more like a training ground," He Wang explained.
"You know I was a soldier before."
"The military conducted mountain warfare drills around Phoenix Mountain."
"Near the training ground, there's an armory where guns might be stored."
Hearing this, Su Chen's eyes lit up!
If there really were guns in a place like that, they would be rifles.
If he could get a rifle, wouldn't he be able to utterly crush Gao Qiqiang?
He wasn't sure what condition the training ground was in after all this rain.
He thought for a moment and decided to go check it out.
"He Da Ge, please tell me more about that place."
"Su Lao Di, how about I come with you? It's better to have someone watching your back."
He Wang volunteered.
"The hotel needs you here to hold down the fort," Su Chen shook his head and declined.
Seeing Su Chen's determination, He Wang didn't insist.
"When are you leaving?"
"Tonight."
He Wang was surprised by the sudden urgency.
"Gao Qiqiang suffered heavy losses and probably won't cause trouble anytime soon," Su Chen explained.
"All right then, be sure to leave early and return early," He Wang reminded.
After parting ways with them, Su Chen set aside a few days' supplies for the survivors and began preparing for the night's mission.
