With the matter settled, the family quietly resumed their meal, the only sounds the occasional clink of chopsticks against bowls and plates. Midway through his meal, Chen Shuang received a phone call, informing him of some urgent matters at the company that required his attention. Fu Cheng immediately said, "I'll go with you."
"Dear in-laws, take your time eating. We'll catch up next time."
"Liangmu, please keep them company."
Fu Liangmu gave a faint hum in acknowledgment. Su Wanwan wiped the corner of her lips and, after they left, calmly said, "I'm going to the restroom." She exited the private room and, upon reaching the stairway on the second floor, glanced down through the window. She saw Chen Shuang and Fu Cheng part ways—each boarding a different vehicle heading to separate destinations. Five minutes later, Su Wanwan returned.
Su's father, beaming, was chatting with Fu Liangmu. "Young master, I entrust Wanwan to your care. Please take good care of her—and while you're at it, do favor our Su family as well. After all, we're family now."
Su Wanwan's eyelids twitched, already anticipating what he was about to say next. Without limping forward, she suddenly grabbed Fu Liangmu's hand and said coldly to Su's father, "Rest assured, my husband takes excellent care of me—unlike some who say one thing to your face and another behind your back."
"Let's go home."
Feeling the soft warmth radiating from her palm, Fu Liangmu softly responded with a low hum and promptly rose to follow her.
On the way back, Su Wanwan's phone buzzed incessantly—messages from Su's father, filled with indignation.
"You stubborn girl! You really want to see the Su family collapse, don't you?!"
"He's your husband now. What's wrong with asking him for some money?!"
Su Wanwan remained unshaken, deleting the messages without a second thought, her mood utterly unaffected. She turned to Fu Liangmu and said, "Don't give my father a single cent."
Feigning ignorance, Fu Liangmu asked, "Why?"
"I'm not as handsome as you, yet you married such a beautiful woman. Your father must be quite displeased."
"I think you should do something to win over your father- and mother-in-law's favor."
Su Wanwan's tone was resolute.
"I said no, so no!"
"Then won't I lose face?"
Leaning back, Fu Liangmu's cold eyes shimmered with a hidden tenderness.
"Are you trying to negotiate terms with me?"
Su Wanwan's expression darkened slightly. "Or do you have so much money you don't know what to do with it, and giving some away makes you happy?"
"Correct. Right now, money is the one thing I have in abundance."
Su Wanwan's eyes widened, her lips pouting as if slightly annoyed. They locked gazes and held the silent standoff for half a minute. Finally, Su Wanwan's slender shoulders sagged in defeat.
"Then what do you want?"
Just as Fu Liangmu hoped, she asked. He lightly tapped his cool lips.
Instinctively, Su Wanwan leaned back. "What is it?"
"Kiss me, and I'll agree."
Her cheeks flushed as she quickly planted a kiss on him.
"Is that it?"
Fu Liangmu chuckled quietly.
"That's too perfunctory, don't you think?"
Su Wanwan bit her lip, took a deep breath, and kissed him slowly, deliberately lingering a few seconds longer this time.
Just as she was about to pull away, she heard a faint sound. Glancing sideways, she saw Fu Liangmu had raised the divider between the front and back seats, creating a secluded space where no one could see or hear what was happening.
"Fu Liangmu, you—"
Before she could finish, Fu Liangmu's large hand gently knocked the back of her head. The kiss deepened instantly. The temperature around them surged, as if devouring all the air. His breath invaded every corner, leaving no space untouched.
Su Wanwan's head grew dizzy. The seat reclined, and she found herself trapped in his embrace.
Suddenly, her phone rang—an ill-timed interruption that jolted her awake. She tugged at Fu Liangmu's sleeve.
A tearing sound was heard.
"I... I have to take this call..."
Seizing the chance, Su Wanwan escaped his embrace. Seeing the caller ID was Xia Kelan, she sighed with relief. Thank heavens the call was timely—otherwise, things might have truly gotten out of hand!
Fu Liangmu returned to his seat, composed, lowering his eyes to smooth the torn sleeve. Yet only he knew the fierce battle raging inside him between impulse and reason, struggling to restrain the woman before him.
"Ah? Liangmu?"
Listening to Xia Kelan, Su Wanwan glanced at Fu Liangmu. "Got it."
After hanging up, she lowered the divider.
"Xie Cheng said he needed to speak with you but couldn't reach you."
Frowning with some impatience, Fu Liangmu pulled out his phone, indeed seeing over a dozen missed calls.
"Let's get you to Xie Cheng, then."
Su Wanwan kindly suggested.
"Mm."
Only after Fu Liangmu left did Su Wanwan finally breathe a deep sigh, slumping back as if half her life had been restored.
"Madam, we've arrived."
Snapping back to reality, Su Wanwan noticed Uncle Zhang opening the car door with a gentle smile. As she shifted her foot, something small caught her eye. Looking down, she found a delicate cufflink shimmering softly.
"Could this be the one I just pulled off?"
Picking it up, she hesitated.
Uncle Zhang smiled knowingly. "Isn't this the young master's?"
Su Wanwan's voice faltered slightly. "Probably..."
"Leave it to me, madam. I'll place it in the cufflink storage box, so the young master won't lose it when he returns."
"I'll help him put it away."
Su Wanwan smiled faintly.
After Uncle Zhang's introduction, she learned Fu Liangmu was an avid cufflink collector, meticulously organizing each pair in a large storage box. When Su Wanwan opened it, she was astonished by the dazzling display.
"Not just this box, but several others too."
Like unveiling treasures, Uncle Zhang brought out multiple large boxes, opening each one. Su Wanwan couldn't help but gasp.
"This must be like how girls collect lipsticks and beautiful clothes."
She marveled as she carefully placed the cufflink inside. Just as she was about to close the lid, her eyes caught a small blue brocade box quietly resting in a corner, out of place among the other cufflinks displayed openly.
"What's this?"
Su Wanwan picked it up.
Uncle Zhang glanced casually and explained thoughtfully, "That pair is the young master's favorite. He spent a fortune on them at an overseas auction years ago. Unfortunately, one cufflink was lost sometime ago."
A faint clicking sound echoed.
The familiar cufflink lay quietly inside, causing Su Wanwan's pupils to constrict sharply. Her hand trembled, and the cufflink slipped from her grasp, falling to the floor with a soft clatter.
Uncle Zhang turned around, concerned. "Madam? Are you alright?"
Snapping back to herself, Su Wanwan murmured, "It's nothing..."
That cufflink... seemed eerily familiar.
