CHAPTER 84. CHAINS BENEATH THE MOON.

Chapter 84 – Chains Beneath the Moon

The Iron Empire's capital, Vermillion Spire, loomed like a jagged fang against the blood-orange sky.

Jean stood atop a rocky ridge with Whitney, hidden beneath a shroud of dusk. The wind carried the scent of molten steel and ash—the Iron Empress's domain.

Somewhere beneath those towers, the Emissary of the Moon Goddess, once known as Kael of Orlun, was imprisoned.

Captured. Tortured. Forgotten.

But not for long.

Jean turned to the cloaked figure beside her—a former Shadow Guild defector named Mirell, whose scars ran deeper than her loyalty ever had.

"You're certain he's still alive?" Jean asked.

Mirell nodded, her voice raspy. "They keep him in the Obsidian Vault. Deep beneath the throne. Enchanted iron, sealed by moonlight rites."

"Moonlight rites?"

"The Empress uses his own goddess's magic to bind him."

Jean's grip on Luxclade tightened. "Then it's time she learns how the light cuts through iron."

---

That night, beneath a new moon, Jean infiltrated the vault.

The halls of the Spire were eerily quiet—the calm of tyranny. Whitney padded beside her, silent and spectral, his white fur dimmed by enchantment.

They reached the vault.

Jean placed her palm on the cold metal. Runes flared to life, trying to repel her touch.

She drew Luxclade and whispered Celeste's name.

The runes cracked.

The door shattered like glass.

Inside, the air was thick with magic and blood.

Chains of silver bound a figure to the wall—tall, lean, his body marked with celestial tattoos and burns. His hair was moon-silver. His eyes flickered open as Jean approached.

"You're not the executioner," he rasped.

"I'm Jean Luther. Emissary of Light."

His eyes widened. "Celeste's chosen…"

She raised her sword.

"I'm here to free you, Kael. The world needs its Emissaries."

Kael blinked. "The world… or the gods?"

"Both."

She sliced through the chains.

Immediately, the vault trembled—alarms rang through the Spire.

Kael staggered forward, barely able to stand.

Whitney moved to his side. "I've got him."

"Move," Jean barked. "We fight our way out."

As they fled into the Spire's dark veins, Kael looked at Jean one last time.

"You don't know what's coming, do you?"

Jean gritted her teeth. "Enlighten me."

Kael's voice was barely a whisper.

> "The gods don't want peace.

They want war.

And they'll use us to wage it."
