Chapter 31: The Hulk Unleashed

The caravan of armored vehicles came to a stop 500 meters from Culver University.

Soldiers and mercenaries disembarked from their vehicles.

Kakashi casually flipped through the playboy which he used to keep him occupied. He'd already dismissed Naruto, his Kitsune familiar, back to its dimension. 'No need to waste chakra keeping that furball around. This Hulk might need everything I've got.'

General Thaddeus Ross stood nearby, his sharp eyes locking onto Kakashi. The mercenary's nonchalance—reading a playboy magazine of all things before a mission to capture a monster—made Ross's suspisions confirmed.

'He's too relaxed," Ross thought, his jaw tightening. 'This guy's either a complete idiot or confident he can survive what's coming. My gut says the later and that means he is an enhanced.'

Ross had seen his share of mercenaries, but Hound was a mystery. SHIELD's database had nothing on him before six months ago, yet his record was flawless—espionage, assassinations, even wiping out a cartel single-handedly. 'Nobody comes out of nowhere like that.'

Ross's thoughts drifted to Emil Blonsky, his team lead, who'd been given a low dose of an experimental super-soldier serum. 'It's not enough to take on the Hulk, but it'll keep him in the fight longer than most.'

Blonsky was reliable, but Ross needed more data on Hound. If he was enhanced, as Ross suspected, this mission could reveal just how dangerous he was. 'He would be perfect for a backup. If he is enhanced he survives and I get the desired information about him and if he is not, another soldier that died trying to stop the Hulk.'

"Move out!" Ross barked, his voice cutting through the murmurs. "Circle the campus. Bruce Banner doesn't escape this time."

He turned to Blonsky, who began relaying orders to the mercenaries and soldiers, positioning snipers and armored units. Then Ross's gaze settled on Kakashi. "You're with me, Hound."

Kakashi nodded, slipping the Magazine back into his pouch. "Yo, sure thing, General," he said, his tone lazy but his eyes scanning everything.

As they moved toward a vantage point overlooking the campus, Kakashi's gaze landed on a couple in the garden below—a man and a woman.

Ross stiffened, his hand tightening on his radio. "Don't injure the woman," he ordered through the comms, his voice low but urgent. "Let her get clear before engaging Banner."

Kakashi's eye crinkled, a smirk forming beneath his mask. ' A Family member? Huh? Probably Daughter. Oh, this is straight out of Jiraiya-san's playbook.' The scene was pure melodrama—a daughter defying her father for a fugitive lover, hunted by the very man who raised her. Romantic, tragic, and just a little cliché.'

Below, Bruce Banner's head snapped up, his eyes catching the glint of sniper scopes. He grabbed Betty's arm, pulling her toward cover as soldiers closed in.

Kakashi watched as he tracked Banner's movements. The man was fast, desperate, but the soldiers were faster, fanning out to cut off his escape.

One grabbed Betty, pulling her toward Ross's position as ordered. Banner's face twisted in panic, then rage, as the soldier's grip tightened on her arm.

A low growl rumbled across the campus, and Kakashi's eye widened.

Green energy pulsed around Banner, his body swelling, muscles tearing through his clothes. In seconds, the unassuming scientist was gone, replaced by a towering green behemoth—the Hulk.

The monster roared, its fists shattering the pavement as it charged the soldier holding Betty. The man barely had time to scream before the Hulk's backhand sent him skidding across the grass.

Soldiers fired hundreds of bullets at him. All the bullets barely tickled him as the Hulk moved undeterred. He jumped to a roof as he picked the sniper and threw him hundreds of meters away. He then jumped down and creating a creator.

Armored vehicles with mounted weapons fired at him which too bounced oh his skin. Hulk angry rushed towards the Vehicle as if wanting to compete who can survive the collision. And it was the Vehicle that got turned into spare parts after the collision.

Kakashi tilted his head as he analyzed the creature. 'This thing's a freaking ugly Tsunade-san.'

The Hulk tore another armored vehicle in half, metal screeching like paper. 'Scratch that. Stronger than Tsunade-san. This is like Gai in the Seventh Gate, on a rampage.'

Some people fired missiles at him. As the explosion engulfed the monster, many sighed at relief only for the Hulk to jump and destroy the soldiers firing the missiles.

Blonsky, undeterred, sprinted forward.

"Stay back!" Ross shouted, but Blonsky ignored him, firing a tranquilizer at the Hulk. The dart bounced off green skin like a pebble. He then switched to a machine gun but the result was the same.

Blonsky tried to say and taught the Hulk.

The Hulk's eyes locked onto Blonsky, and with a single kick, sent him crashing into a tree.

Kakashi winced, his enhanced hearing picking up the sickening crunch of bones—'at least a hundred, ouch.'

Ross's face was a mask of fury and desperation. He turned to Kakashi and the other soldiers remaining, his teeth gritted. "Hound, rest of you, move! Intercept that monster. Buy us two minutes until air support arrives."

Kakashi nodded, his tone deceptively casual. "Yo, General, you got it." Inside, his mind was racing. 'He thinks he's sending me to my death. Cute.'

Kakashi knew the risks—if the Hulk landed a hit, even his ninja endurance might not save him. 'I can't let him hit me. One punch, and I'm paste. Even if I survive, Ross'll want my blood—not in a hospital, but a lab.'
