Chapter Fifty One
Lucianna's POV
I jumped back in a breath and Fhoxia turned around, slowly walking back beside Roscoe.
Did she say that I will be my mate's death?
"What the fuck, Roscoe?!" I exclaimed in a controlled scream. Are they trying to fuck up my head? Manipulate me? What?! "If you are trying to use me to have your revenge, try using a different way than this obvious stage play!"
Fhoxia turned to face me this time that made my eyes divert to her for a second. When she seems to be still, I looked at Roscoe again and raised a brow to his 'tired' look.
What? Is pretending to be a victim from the same kind of judgment a part of his game?
"Lucianna, look at Fhoxia." he started. I didn't listen to him and my focus remained at him which made him sigh. "Fhoxia is not a living thing. The reason that she looks like this and speak like that is because she is but a soul sent from the Moon."
"Stop making stories, you fucker!"
How can that be true?! I can see Fhoxia, she is real, she might not have a presence that I may sense BUT she is not a hallucination or ghost or a soul that this bastard claims to be!
"This," he pointed to Fhoxia from head to toe. "is not alive. Fhoxia borrowed a dead body which allowed her to use her power. She may be the messenger of darkness but she is not the danger. Fhoxia is here to point out the true danger that may affect the werewolf realm, and this is not a story I created."
"How can you know all that when this Fhoxia can't even talk!?"
What if he manipulated an uneducated rogue or something just to implement this plan?
Roscoe hissed. "I know this is hard to believe but a little trust won't hurt you. Please."
"Everything little may be a greater disaster, I am not placing trust with this nonsense."
Did he really think he can pull some strings by using petty magical reasoning? I think he is not as smart than what I heard him to be.
Roscoe sighed, tilted his head to Fhoxia with a tired look and then at me.
"Fhoxia's power is limited. She can speak, when her power is charged, she can. But once the message comes to her, she can't wait for her voice to come. Again, the body she is using right now is from the dead."
There is a slight point from what he is saying but how can I know this is true and not something he has made up?
I looked at Fhoxia and she nodded slowly, like her bones has no grasp and may fall any minute.
The speed, somehow, is not possible to be explained. I can say that she must be faster than an Alpha. That is not an ordinary thing to do.
"I wanted your help." Roscoe said when I was silent for too long, his voice was careful and measuring. "Fhoxia told me that my brother will die and you are involve in it. The message came recently, before my ban has been lifted."
I snorted. "What, she just came to you and informed you? That's absurd."
They look like they knew each other for so long.
"No, I've met Fhoxia before. She is the reason why my ambition to be the Alpha of this pack came to an end, also why I came back and apologize to Jacob years ago."
I frowned. And why? If this is true, then what pushed him to back down and even regretted his previous resolve?
"You've met and the friendship last until now? That sounds like a long-term evil plan to me," I stood straight, letting go of my protective stance. "I won't help and be a part of that."
"No evil." Fhoxia murmured. This woman right here lacks emotion in every words she utters. As if a machine operated voice, but also as if an ignorant outsider.
Roscoe sighed. "Fhoxia will be able to talk any moment now and that is why we yearned for your time. And no, Lucianna, Fhoxia came to me years ago then she disappeared. It was recently that she comes back and told me about Jacob."
I raised a brow. My chest is heaving as I looked at Fhoxia who nodded ever slowly… again.
My arms crossed in front of my chest as I turned to look at Roscoe again.
"Tell me, isn't it your goal to snatch the alpha title from Jacob? You wanted to be an Alpha so bad that you tried to kill your brother in such a young and weak age. You, his brother, his flesh and blood, managed to forget the your bond with him just to secure your position in this pack--"
"I regret all that, Lucianna." his jaw clenches.
I ignored what he said and continued. "Emotions can be faked by words, by actions. What you did is a sin which you chose to do… a creation of your own mind and resolve. So what miracle should I owe this sudden change of yours?"
Silence enveloped us for a moment. Roscoe can't utter a word but his mouth is slightly apart… there are words he wanted to say.
Normally, I analyze this reaction as an obvious hesitation. A fact that wanted to be said but having second thought to say because of various reason which in his case might be two: one, no one will believe him and two, he is constructing a lie inside that head.
Because of the things I know about him, and being biased about what happened to Jacob, my mind kept on entertaining the latter option.
"I'm almost in full capacity, I'll give you more time to explain yourself to the woman, sadwolf."
My eyes widened when Fhoxia talked clear and straight. I frowned and was confused if this must be what Roscoe meant when he said her power wasn't fully charged.
Fhoxia's voice is of a deep female alto voice, it should be normal but the voice contained mesmerizing echoes which caught my attention.
That is far from normal.
She is not…
Oh my…
"Damn, don't call me that." Roscoe complained.
Sad wolf? Him? The fuck?
Roscoe looked at me with a slight smirk. "There was no miracle to thank of, but we can both be grateful to Fhoxia if you'd like."
I cannot speak a word. I'm puzzled, and all that I could think of is the possibility that all they are saying is the truth, and Jacob might really be in danger… because of… me.
Because of my silence, Roscoe continued.
"When I was banned from the pack, I admit that all I could think of is revenge, I am full of anger and rage." he let out a low chuckle, as if he can't believe what he did back in the past and then he sighed.
"I remember planning to go back, you know… kill him for real. I… don't know what the shadow eye has to do with being an alpha. I think its all but a worthless gift, I don't even need that eye just to rule a pack. All I believe is that I deserve to be an Alpha, I'm the firstborn."
I cringed from how Roscoe said those words. I know it was in the past, but because that was his fact, it sounded as if the emotions were still there within him.
"I was lost, I can't accept my father's decision. I cursed the tradition and I hated fate for not giving me the most important requirement to be a Shadow pack Alpha."
Roscoe looked at Fhoxia and smiled weakly.
"Then the messenger came, Fhoxia gave the answers I've been asking myself." then he turned to look at me. "I don't have a mate. The one fated for me died early and that is why the Shadow eye transferred to Jacob. Fate choose him because the legacy will end with me if I am the one who took the Alpha title. I lack the opportunity to start my own family…"
"You're telling me that you accepted defeat because of that?"
He stared at me with utmost sincerity sparkling in his eyes.
"Yes."
"You didn't accepted that fate gave him the shadow eye, Roscoe. That is also a fate's call and yet you failed to oblige. You tried to turn events and--"
"What and why is two different things. Knowing what the fate choose and knowing why the fate chooses that will give two different impacts. I live, trained and ready to serve our pack, and knowing that I won't be able to do my responsibility as a whole only meant failure for me."
That… makes sense.
If he couldn't produce a heir, if he couldn't give the pack its mother--a Luna, then he won't be able to have the full power he should have gained. Without the mate bond, an Alpha is nothing but a weak shell of a wolf.
"Enough chat, I'm at full capacity now." Fhoxia interrupted and we both looked at her. I still can't see her face so her expression is a question to me. I think she is looking right at me.
"Prepare your questions, Lucianna. She won't last for too long." Roscoe warned.
"Huh?"
"I have twenty minutes and thirty seconds. During that given time, I can speak clear and free. The timer starts fifteen seconds ago so let me start why you will be the death of your mate."
