Eighty Three

Chapter Eighty-Three

Lucianna's POV

"Why proceed with it, then?" Aiden asked, wincing a bit from the heaviness of his words. I just told them about the Shadow eye and the curse of it because of a mishap that the first born didn't inherit the gift.

"Aiden! You can't tell a mother to get rid of her pup." Ashira answered, agitated on my behalf. Aiden looked at me with apologizing gaze but the way his jaw clenched tells me his vote is just the same as Roscoe's.

"I actually tried to." the sigh that came out of my lips was cold as memories came rushing.

"Ohmy! Luce!" my friend's eyes were wide from shock, covering her mouth and tears forming on her eyes.

My smile has shame lingering on it. This is a new emotion on my part. I always thought that I haven't done anything wrong when I decided to went with Roscoe on that cave. Maybe its because this is the first time I talked about it with a person of a same gender. Plus, Ash is a mother now so she can relate more than I could imagine how horrible what I did. I suddenly felt sad again for not having a mother figure to understand or talk with.

"But he changed her mind before I came to stop her." Jacob butted in. "We're keeping our child, no matter what."

The way Jacob tried to save my face made me smile a bit. Right, I did changed my mind the last minute. Does that really counts? I still tried and went on that cave either way.

"And this pup is… what was the term? Eating you?" Aiden questions Jacob.

"Something like that." Jacob chuckled weakly. A slight shake of my head upon thinking how he find this funny but a small smirk came to my lips.

"And still you're keeping it." Aiden said as if he doesn't follow.

"No matter what." Jacob said with finality.

"Didn't know you're the suicidal type, brother." Aiden grinned. "Though I know you got something up your sleeves. You do, right?"

Our silence made Aiden exchange glances at both of me and Jacob. We got none, even I doesn't know how to answer him.

Ashira sniffed loudly, trying to stop herself from crying more upon reading the atmosphere of our unspoken words. I couldn't blame her for feeling sad, I had my own days like that.

"Define 'fucked', and it is what their situation is." Roscoe said somewhere. I didn't realized he has joined the group. "So what's up with your boy? He heard something from the messenger. Maybe they can continue that conversation like… right now?"

"Nothing's up with Quillon." Aiden said, growling a bit. Ashira came to him and touched his arm. I know there is something about Quillon that must not be said, or maybe not to be said to Roscoe since he no longer belongs to any pack. Not to mention that he betrayed his brother once and Aiden is well-aware of that. It was enough for him not to trust him.

"I think its time for you to visit our mother, Roscoe." Jacob said, giving his brother a small smile. "She sure misses you."

Jacob and I thought of the same thing. Ashira and Aiden is hiding a secret that might make them vulnerable once it is out in the open. Roscoe is clearly not gonna be a part of the clandestine conversation that we would be hearing.

Roscoe looked like he doesn't want to go but then he sighed, shrugged, and moved away from the doorframe where he was leaning.

"Harley will come with you." Jacob stated but it was a clear order that Harley understood. He must keep his eyes on Roscoe, and he himself must go, too.

"Way to treat a family, brother." Roscoe said but he leaned down and held his brother for a side hug. "Be well."

The two was out of the house in seconds and the silence that lingered was for us to work our senses to ensure that they are far enough.

It was Aiden who spoke first after the coast was clear and no uninvited ear would hear.

"Our kid, Quillon," Aiden cleared his throat. "He got a gift. It was special, powerful enough that the Alpha King himself came out of his paradise just to take that power. I think that is why he was able to see and hear this messenger you all are talking about."

Jacob looked at me and I saw the same hope in his eyes mirroring mine. Hope and something else like worry.

"Did he succeed on taking it?" I asked. It bothered me a lot. If he got a power that could help us understand Fhoxia but the Alpha King has taken, then it must be limited. And might take us into another puzzle if the conversation is once again interrupted. Worse, cut.

"That's the thing. The Alpha King didn't took it. He tried and he think he did but he didn't. I made a deal with him to cure Ashira from Elon's spell in exchange of that power. I believed the Alpha King took Quillon's power while Ash was pregnant, but when Quillon was born, there was no mistaking it. The Alpha King didn't took any, our child managed to give him a bit, enough to make him believe he did."

"And so we conceal it. It took us time, and it was hard since his powers were seeping out of his body any chance it can get, but Quillon is smart. Even as a newborn, he managed to conceal it himself, and as he grew older, we found a way for it to be hidden forever."

"Or so, we hoped." Ashira said in a sigh.

"Or so, we hoped." Aiden repeated. "Now, we can call Quillon so he can talk with this messenger woman. If that will help you, it's the least we could do."

I exhaled a relieved breath and nodded. Jacob's face was unreadable but I know he was feeling the same soaring hope that I feel inside me, too.

"That would mean a lot, brother." Jacob said, finally trying to stand up. Aiden gave him a hand before I could and they started walking, Aiden helping him steadied his steps.

"Quillon, honey." Ashira called and Quillon was on our side like a wind. "Oof!" Ash widened her eyes and grinned. "I never get used to that," she chuckled and rolled her eyes. "Baby, can you come with us outside to talk to the woman you saw earlier?"

Quillon looked at all of us, observing. "She's been waiting for me, too."

We were all quiet from what the kid said. Quillon's face was serious, but I could see the excitement he starts to feel inside.

"Then let's not keep her waiting." Aiden said and lead the way to where he remembered his son was standing earlier.
