"I'm not sure about forgiveness," I said calmly. "Based on my humble background, if someone made a mistake, people believed they should be burned at the stake or thrown into the ocean from a ship."
I shrugged. "I've never actually done that to anyone before, but … maybe you could be my first guest."
Even though it was subtle, I could clearly see the color slowly drain from Mirelda's face, turning her skin as pale as paper. I wasn't sure if she was more afraid of losing her job or terrified that I might actually burn her at the stake.
Honestly, burning someone at the stake had never crossed my mind before. But maybe … it's something to consider in the future.
