The Road to Trouble

"On the road again!" sang Anna as she began to skip ahead of the group. "Nothing else can match this feeling but the wind in my hair!"

Sami felt nothing but annoyance as Anna sang loudly. Other people on the road, either walking or on horseback, simply looked at the group. Lyra merely shook her head, knowing Anna could be worse.

"So, how long do you think she'll keep this up?" Onyx asked Sami, making sure to keep her voice a whisper so as not to attract Anna's attention.

Sami grabbed the straps of the bag he was carrying, hiking it up as it started to fall. He made sure not to move too much and knock Onyx off his shoulder.

"Honestly, I'd rather her sing loudly than mess with us like she usually does," Sami replied.

Onyx nodded her head in agreement. "True, true! I hope eventually she'll stop hugging me so much."

"That'd be the day," Lyra cut in. "When I was younger, she was so much worse."

"What do you mean by worse?" Onyx questioned.

"Ugh, don't even get me started on that crazy bitch," Lyra whined. "One time she forced me to dress in a bunny outfit and made me scream 'The Easter Bunny is here!'"

"Hahaha!" laughed Sami. "She legit made you dress in a bunny outfit?"

Onyx almost fell a few times as she laughed. She couldn't stop picturing a smaller Lyra dressed like a bunny, similar to how she was right now.

"Yeah, yeah, laugh it up, assholes. Anna can be pure torture," growled Lyra.

The laughter began to die down as the trio kept walking behind Anna, who was seemingly having a good time just singing. She'd been very energetic since they left earlier that morning. The mission would take place in a town near a ruined temple.

"So, are you excited for your first mission?" asked Onyx.

Her question broke the silence that had fallen over the group for the past thirty minutes of walking. Before Sami could answer, Anna suddenly spoke.

"I'd duck down soon," Anna called in her high-pitched voice. "You have about five seconds."

Without hesitation, Sami grabbed Lyra's shoulder with his right hand, forcing both of them to stop walking as he concentrated on his spell. As soon as he activated it, multiple throwing knives went flying through the air.

Going straight through their bodies, groups of knives began to rain down around them. Making the sky seem dark with the multiple weapons coming out of the air. Anna seemed to be having fun twirling around, dodging each knife as if they weren't a problem.

Soon the skies cleared as the last of the knives dropped.

"Sigh, it's been so long since someone was brave enough to attack me!" cheered Anna as she jumped in place.

Sami couldn't help but sweatdrop at Anna dancing in place. He wondered what the hell was wrong with his teacher.

"Is she okay?" Onyx asked, concerned that maybe Anna was losing her mind.

"No, no, the fuck not," growled Lyra.

Lyra stomped forward, her form flickering before becoming solid. Making her way through the knives that littered the ground, her entire aura could be seen around her body as her anger surged. Raising her fist, flames could be seen as she brought it down, hitting Anna in the head hard.

BOOM!

"STOP GOOFING AROUND AND GET SERIOUS!" Lyra shouted, her fist smoking as Anna's head hit the ground.

"Why are you always so mean to my beautiful butterfly?" shouted Anna as she squatted, holding her head.

"No, now's not the time for your bullshit," Lyra replied. "Now get up and stop kidding around."

"But, but you don't need my help; this guy is so weak," whined Anna, with tears falling down her face.

"Should we help them?" Onyx asked, confused about the situation.

"Already ahead of you, I'll just place a shield around them and it'll be okay," Sami replied.

Onyx just nodded her head, not saying much in return. After training with Anna for the past month, Sami gained the ability to place his shields at any place. In this case, he just placed a version of his shield around both Lyra and Anna separately, like armor.

After snapping his fingers, a small shine could be seen around the girls, though it was only noticeable if you were looking for it. It was great he did that. A person appeared right next to them, stabbing Lyra in the back.

CLANG!

The small sword bounced off her back, sending sparks everywhere. The person was dressed in all black; even their face was covered. Recovering quickly from the failed sneak attack, the person in black tried to attack again.

Lyra quickly turned around catching the person off guard. Delivering a kick that sent them rolling across the ground.

"Oh, they're so sneaky, they're so scary!" shivered Anna as she was hiding behind Lyra.

Lyra ignored Anna's antics as she rushed ahead quickly. The person in black was getting to their feet slowly. The sword they tried to block the attack with shattered on the ground, pieces of it lying around. The person looked on in shock.

Not noticing that Lyra was quickly upon them.

"Do you think we should stop her?" Sami asked Onyx, as Sami looked at Lyra knocking the masked person around.

"I don't think we should get involved," she replied, wincing at some of the attacks the enemy was taking.

The person tried to slowly crawl away but was quickly dragged back. Lyra grabbed their foot, making sure they couldn't get away.

"Please, mercy!" a voice gasped. The figure crawled on the ground, scared of the pain Lyra might give them.

"Where do you think you're going?" Lyra sarcastically asked. "You just tried to kill and expect mercy. That's cute you think that."

BANG!

Lyra's punch was so strong that earthquakes were going through the ground.

"Yay! Go, Lyra! Beat that scary person!" Anna cheered.

"Yep, definitely not getting involved," both Onyx and Sami said aloud, as they looked at the destruction Lyra was leaving in her wake.
