Find My Mate!!

Damon's POV

I stared out the window with my hands in my pockets. My second brother, Draven, sat at the edge of the bed, his hand on his chin as we both tried to figure out a way around this madness—the madness we had just put ourselves into again for the fifth time, which was going to be the end of us all.

I didn't speak. We both stayed in the room, remaining mute, the air becoming thick and heavy too.

Just as we tried to bring our heads together to find a solution, the door to my room slammed open, Dax rushing into the room in a feat of rage.

"What was the meaning of that back there? You both acted like she was nothing more than a slave in the Vaughn pack too," he argued, his rage clearly noticeable in his every word.

"She's our mate, and we must treat her as one. Don't be harsh to her, or else we lose her!" he added. But unlike us, we didn't say a single word to him. I kept mute, and so did Draven. But that didn't stop him.

"Are you both even listening to me? Doesn't she being our mate mean anything to you both?" he asked further, and just then, Draven finally spoke up.

"She means everything to us, Dax. She means the whole universe to me, and that's the problem. She shouldn't," he emitted with a deep, sad tone.

"What?" Dax squinted as he let out.

I turned to his confused gaze. "Don't tell me you don't see it yet? You don't see the reason why we are trying our best to make it work this time?"

"What are you two even saying? You keep giving her cold shoulders, making her scared because…" he was going to say, but I cut in sharply.

"Because that's the only way to keep her alive, Dax!" I gruntled, clenching my teeth.

"Madeline, Nyla, Hannah, Alison, and now…" I paused briefly, turning away from him. "Rhea… she keeps coming back over and over again with the same fate. With the same curse," I emitted with a broken heart.

I could still recall every scene, every moment with her in the last four generations. The prophecy never lies; the curse never gets broken.

Three powerful brothers fall for an omega with the blood of a hybrid in her veins. They make her their world only to be shattered by her death.

In the past four generations, we came back with the same fate—bound to meet Rhea in different forms, with different names. We recall everything, but she doesn't. She remains unaware of her fate with us until her final death, which breaks every piece of us. She's the bane of our existence.

Dax, understanding it all, couldn't help but keep speaking. "We could change fate this time. We can make things work."

I shook my head. "We can't, and that's why we shouldn't have marked her. I made sure I was careful, but my inner wolf took over, and so did yours."

"We've made the mistake, and now she's bound to us again, just like the prophecy stated. She dies, and we vanish. She gets hurt; our wolf goes feral and weak."

I spun to him. "History will always repeat itself. Just that this time, it's going to be more deadly than the rest. That's why no matter what, we can't fall in love with her. We need to control ourselves!"

"No!" Dax clenched his fingers by his sides. "I won't let that happen. She's my mate and Luna. I'll love her even if it means the end of me!" he declared, his eyes becoming moist.

I wouldn't blame him. I felt the same way. I felt stronger. But recalling she always died in my arms hurts the most. I needed to make things right this time. I was done trying to change her fate.

"Don't you get it, Dax? You are not the issue—she is. Her death breaks us all. And if not loving her will make her live, then I'm willing to act tough for her safety," Draven asserted, trying to prove a point.

"I'll love her. And that's final!"

Just as Dax was still speaking, Draven hushed him. He walked over to the window, and his eyes bulged. Dax and I rushed to see what he was staring at.

It was Rhea, trying to escape the Pack house.

"We have to stop her," Dax panicked as he hurriedly turned around. He was going to stop her, but I halted him in his actions.

"Stop!" I ordered without hesitation.

"We can't let her leave the pack premises. It's dangerous!" he argued, his breaths coming out faster than usual.

"Let her feel the air a bit before we go after her. We can't make her feel like she is locked up here," I explained, trying to make Dax see reason with me, but as always, he wouldn't.

He was known for his reckless decisions—stubborn and strong-willed.

"I'm going to save my Luna, and you both can't stop me. Since you won't, I will!" Without another word, he dashed out of the room, slamming the door.

My jaw clenched as I watched Rhea run as fast as she could, the urge to go after her increasing every second.

"Dax is right, Brother…" Draven, who was still in the room with me, said, "We need to stop her before things get complicated. Remember, she owns our soul now without knowing."

Draven was right. If anything happened to her, we suffered it tenfold. We couldn't let anything harm her yet.

With my fists clenching tightly by my sides, I finally agreed. "Fine… tell the guards to sound the alarm and chase after her!"

Draven ran out, and almost immediately, a howl echoed through the Vaughn pack. I walked out of the room and stood before the entrance of the pack house.

I was waiting for them to return with Rhea in their grip. I needed to also make her regret running away from us. I gave her the rules, but yet she disobeyed them.

I stood for a while, waiting patiently until I caught sight of Dax and Draven leading the team back to the pack house.

My brows furrowed as I stared at them returning without Rhea in their grip.

"Where's Rhea?" I questioned with a deep voice.

Dax glared at me. Without a word, he walked past me. I could sense his rage and regrets, but I didn't know why.

"Alpha Damon." One of the guards bowed his head as he spoke. "We couldn't find her."

The moment he let those words out of his lips, my inner wolf, Chain, took over me. With swift moves, I charged toward the head guard, my hand gripping his neck as I glared at him, my eyes glowing red.

"What did you just say?" I growled fiercely.

"She was gone before we arrived…" he croaked as my grip tightened. "We only found this." He handed a piece of ripped clothing to me.

I let go of him, letting him fall to the ground as I took the cloth from him. I drew it closer and scented it. My wolf roared, "Mate." A low grunt left my lips before I turned back to them.

"Find her… no matter what it takes, find my mate and bring her back to me. Is that clear?!"
