Sebastian Maddox – POV
He cornered me.
Outside school.
Again.
Same smirk. Same suit. Same smug, expensive cologne that made my blood boil.
But this time—he didn't stop at words.
He grabbed me.
Pushed.
Hard.
I hit the wall with a crack that shot pain up my shoulder. I growled, shoving him off, teeth bared. "Touch me again, old man, and I swear—"
"You don't swear," Rain cut me off, voice cold, hand still clenched around my collar. "You smoke. You drink. You fuck. You lie. Just like me. And she'll keep loving you just like she loved me—until she doesn't."
I was ready to hit him again. But I didn't have to.
Because the front door slammed open.
He turned just in time for the blur of fire and fury to storm in.
Sky.
She didn't say a word at first.
Just walked. Fast. Straight. Eyes locked on him. Her fists clenched so tightly I thought her fingers might bleed. I'd never seen her like this before.
Not quiet.
Not soft.
Not shaking.
Feral.
Rain smirked. "Sky—"
"You come near my son one more time…"
Her voice didn't even rise—but god, it cut through the air like a whip.
"...and I swear to every god you don't believe in, I'll fuck you harder than you fucked those girls behind my back while we were still together."
Silence.
His smirk faltered.
Then—
Crack.
Her hand landed across his face like lightning.
Sharp. Precise. Brutal.
It echoed.
His cheek turned red.
And she didn't even look away. She just stood there, shaking, her breath uneven, her eyes wide and dark with something that didn't look like fear.
It looked like power.
Raw, ugly, earned power.
She clutched her wrist right after, wincing. But didn't cry. Didn't back down.
She never looked at me.
Her whole body stood between Rain and me like a shield made of bones and love and rage.
"Try it," she whispered to him. "Try touching him again. I'll show you exactly what I've become without you."
Rain didn't speak.
He turned.
Walked away.
Coward.
I didn't realize I was still holding my breath until she turned around, and suddenly—
She looked so small again.
Her hand was shaking. Her knuckles red. But her eyes—her eyes were still burning.
And when she finally looked at me…
I didn't know what to say.
She just whispered, "Are you okay, baby?"
And I, Sebastian Maddox, who smoked and drank and cursed and fought and lied—
Felt protected.
For the first time in a long, long while.
