Chen Cheng's health had never been great.
She was a premature baby and had to be placed in intensive care right after birth. When she was little, her parents took her everywhere for treatment, from rural herbalists to top-tier hospitals in big cities. Growing up around hospitals made her develop a strong dislike for the smell of disinfectant.
She wasn't sure about the current state of this body, but since she fainted from low blood sugar today, it probably wasn't doing too well either.
An Yuan returned quickly, carrying a large bag of breakfast, enough for at least three people.
"Here, your favorite, floss bread."
"The snack shop had burgers today, so I bought one for you to try."
"Sweet soy milk, it might help with low blood sugar."
One by one, An Yuan pulled out the food, making it seem like his bag was a bottomless storage space.
"I also bought a pack of White Rabbit candies. Keep some sugar on you from now on. If you start feeling unwell, eat something right away."
He grinned, pulled up a chair, and sat down beside her. Then, he started unwrapping the bread and burger. "There's more. See if there's anything else you want to eat."
"It's fine. I only passed out from low blood sugar once in my last life, and it never happened again." Chen Cheng wasn't used to being taken care of so attentively, feeling a bit uncomfortable. "Why'd you buy so much? I can't finish all this."
"If you can't finish it, I will."
Just as he said that, the doctor walked in.
An Yuan immediately went over and asked, "She fainted from low blood sugar earlier. Does she need some glucose?"
"As long as she eats, she'll be fine."
The doctor saw that Chen Cheng looked okay and wasn't too concerned. Instead, she watched the two of them interact with a teasing smile.
She remembered this pair. The guy was tall and handsome, the girl pure and pretty. In a high school where most students didn't wear makeup or dress up, their looks were definitely memorable.
"From now on, you have to eat breakfast."
"I used to be fine with just two meals a day…"
"That was before. Things are different now."
An Yuan handed her the burger. Since there were others around, he kept his words in check, avoiding any mention of "time travel" or "being a man" to prevent scaring people.
"Should we skip the next class?" Chen Cheng asked while munching on the burger, her eyes gleaming mischievously. "I mean, I'm sick! Seriously ill!"
"Who planned to skip school so loudly like this?"
Her expression suddenly changed. She leaned back in the chair dramatically and groaned weakly, "Ah~ My low blood sugar is acting up again~ I feel so dizzy~"
The doctor couldn't help but laugh. "It's better if you go back to class, but staying here for observation is fine too."
"Observation, definitely! I feel so weak!" Chen Cheng immediately clung to An Yuan's arm. "And you have to take care of me!"
An Yuan rolled his eyes but still nodded politely at the doctor. "Sorry for the trouble."
"No worries, no worries~ Taking care of your girlfriend is what matters most."
"Girlfriend? We're just good brothers!" Chen Cheng corrected her.
Was this how young people talk these days?
The doctor nodded thoughtfully. "Mm-hmm, brothers."
After finishing the bread, the burger, and a few sips of soy milk, Chen Cheng's stomach felt full. She realized she should have grabbed her phone from her storage bag during morning assembly, now she had nothing to do.
Meanwhile, An Yuan, who was in peak physical condition with a huge appetite, finished the rest of the food effortlessly.
Having a strong body and a good appetite really made eating more enjoyable.
"I'm going to the restroom…" Chen Cheng muttered, pressing a hand to her stomach as she got up.
An Yuan immediately stood up to follow.
"Why are you following me?"
"What else am I supposed to do? Just sit in the infirmary awkwardly staring at the doctor?"
"Oh, right, take that bag with you."
But Chen Cheng wasn't actually heading to the restroom just to use it, she wanted to take off the slip dress she was wearing.
It was already class time.
Two classes were having P.E. outside, and their voices could be heard from a distance. The hallways of the office building were nearly empty.
Inside the restroom, Chen Cheng first checked herself in the mirror, adjusting her bangs a little before turning and heading into the women's restroom.
An Yuan waited outside. He washed his hands, leaned against the sink, and rubbed his sore shoulder, rolling his neck to ease the stiffness.
"It's acting up again..."
He more or less understood his condition. It was probably due to the overwhelming stress from his previous life, with no real outlet for release. The psychological problems specifically manifested as shoulder pain and back pain, often hurting him so much that he couldn't sleep well all night.
But lately, the pain seemed to have lessened.
Was it because of the new environment after transmigrating?
Or… was it because of Chen Cheng?
"An Yuan~"
Her voice came from inside the restroom. An Yuan instinctively turned toward the door. "Do you need toilet paper? Hold on, I'll get some."
"No, come in…"
He glanced around, making sure no one was watching, then quickly stepped into the women's restroom. "What is it?"
At that moment, the stall door swung open.
Chen Cheng stood there, lips pressed tightly together, her face flushed so red it looked like it might start dripping. Her shy eyes darted away as she fidgeted in place.
She was wearing a delicate pink slip dress, the silky fabric falling lightly over her frame. Her long legs were wrapped in white stockings, the contrast between the elegant slip and the innocence of the stockings creating an oddly mesmerizing balance, pure yet undeniably alluring.
An Yuan froze on the spot. His eyes swept over her without restraint.
Feeling his gaze, Chen Cheng became even more flustered. She instinctively covered the hem of her dress with her hands, pulling it up slightly to hide her neckline. The embarrassment washed over her in waves, making her exposed skin take on a rosy hue, as if she had been soaked in the scent of something sweet and intoxicating.
Then—BANG
The door slammed shut again.
Her heart was pounding uncontrollably.
An Yuan's intense gaze just now had completely overwhelmed her, making her feel like she was being cornered. To hide her rising shame, she blurted out in frustration.
"You've seen it, now go!"
Outside, An Yuan rubbed his nose, his mind replaying the image of Chen Cheng in that slip dress and stockings.
Inside the stall, he could hear the rustling sound of clothes being changed. Without meaning to, his imagination filled in the gaps, picturing her taking off the dress piece by piece.
He quickly shook his head to clear the thoughts. Adjusting his school uniform jacket, he pulled it down slightly, trying to hide the undeniable reaction his lower half had.
He really regretted staring just now…
Not long after, Chen Cheng stepped out, now dressed in her school uniform again. Her cheeks still had a faint pink flush, and she expressionlessly held the slip dress and stockings in her arms.
"The bag."
"Got it."
An Yuan casually picked up the clothes and seemed to smell a sweet fragrance of a girl on them. He unconsciously took a deep breath before stuffing the clothes into the bag.
Chen Cheng's face reddened again. "I just wanted you to pass me the bag… Why are you taking my clothes so casually?"
Realizing his mistake, An Yuan felt awkward too. He tried to brush it off. "We're… we're brothers, aren't we? No need to be so formal."
Chen Cheng went along with it. "Then make sure you put them in your bag properly. Don't let anyone see."
—But were they really just brothers?
Would a brother deliberately put on a dress just to show another brother?
Would a brother stare at another brother with such an intense, consuming gaze, as if about to devour them whole?
Chen Cheng felt a bit uneasy as she followed An Yuan out of the restroom.
Both of them seemed a little dazed, their minds still stuck on what had just happened.
As they neared the infirmary, Chen Cheng suddenly reached out and grabbed An Yuan's arm. Her voice carried a trace of nervousness as she tilted her head up to look at him.
"An Yuan… do you really see me as a guy?"
An Yuan looked down at her.
Her eyes were filled with uncertainty, almost pleading.
Guilt surged within him, overwhelming any other thoughts. Without hesitation, he nodded.
"Of course."
Chen Cheng let out a small breath. "That's good then…"
