Lorelei's suggestion was very tempting.
But Riku rejected it without hesitation.
If there hadn't been any conditions attached, Riku would have gladly accepted.
However, sacrificing Lapras and turning it into a mere breeding tool was something Riku could never agree to.
Lorelei seemed genuinely disappointed by Riku's refusal.
She even sighed, saying that Riku didn't know how good he had it.
If her words had spread, Lapras's already difficult living conditions in the Pokémon world might have worsened even more—perhaps even leading to their extinction.
Lorelei let out a long sigh and went back to her room to catch up on sleep.
Riku couldn't be bothered with her. He simply laid out a sleeping bag on the floor and went to sleep.
---
Daytime.
Riku slept straight through until noon.
Wondering why he hadn't received a call yet, he immediately dialed May's number.
To his surprise, May told him there was no need to gather or head to Citrus Island.
Since the whereabouts of the Elite Four leader Lance were unknown, the elders of the Orange League had decided to shift their focus to Bruno for now.
Before hanging up, May asked if Riku wanted to train with her.
Riku did want to—but given his current situation, he reluctantly declined.
He remembered that when he trained alongside May previously, his Pokémon's experience gains were significantly reduced—almost halved.
But things were different now. With Bruno as an imminent threat, Riku needed to improve his strength as quickly as possible.

Before setting out to battle wild Pokémon, Riku stopped by the large water tank to check on Feebas.
Unexpectedly, it was still asleep.
Speechless, Riku soon left and found a small, unnamed island in the nearby sea.
He didn't know much about this island, but his understanding of Pokémon had deepened considerably.
If he encountered Bug-type Pokémon, he would send out Lapras.
If he ran into Grass-types, Gengar would battle instead.
Gengar, a dual Ghost/Poison-type, didn't have many Poison-type moves, but it was still effective against Grass-types.
Many of the nameless islands in the Orange Archipelago were home to Bug and Grass-type Pokémon, and the Pokémon on this island had decent levels.
This made it easier for Riku's Pokémon to quickly gain experience—and his system points soared.
"If I farm experience and points like this for a week, I might actually have a chance against Bruno."
Watching Gengar effortlessly defeat a Grass-type Pokémon, Riku nodded in satisfaction.
---
Ding!
Gengar's battle experience increased.
Host's Pokémon Gengar defeated Tangrowth (Lv. 41, Grass-type). Type advantage. Reward: 2000 points.
2000 points?
Riku was surprised—and pleased.
Previously, defeating wild Pokémon over level 30 had doubled his points compared to level 20s.
Now, a level 40 victory had doubled that reward again.
"If I could take down level 60 or 70 Champion-tier wild Pokémon..."
The thought of such massive point gains tempted him.
If only Lapras and Gengar were stronger, he would've gone hunting for those high-level opponents already.
---
Ding!
Lapras's battle experience increased.
Host's Pokémon Lapras defeated Butterfree (Lv. 34, Bug-type). Type advantage. Reward: 700 points.
But level 40+ wild Pokémon were rare.
Most of the ones Riku encountered were level 30 Grass- and Bug-types.
Just as he was about to continue farming points, the system suddenly sent out another notification.
Ding!
Host's temporary points have exceeded 100,000.
System rewards are being distributed...
Finally—over 100,000 points!
Excited, Riku gave Lapras and Gengar a break while he waited for the system's reward prompt.
Ding!
Reward options:
Option 1: 20,000 points.
Option 2: One random draw.
Please make a choice within five minutes.
It was the first time the system had offered him reward options.
If he chose 20,000 points, he could immediately exchange them for a Prism Scale and evolve Feebas into Milotic.
But there were more pressing matters at hand. Defeating Bruno came first.
Besides, even if Feebas evolved, it wouldn't be of much help right now—Milotic was a Water-type, and had no advantage against Fighting-types.
"Draw! I refuse to believe I'm that unlucky!"
Ding!
Drawing complete.
Congratulations to the host for obtaining a Toxic Orb.
Congratulations to the host for triggering the Lucky Prize Wheel.
Rumble rumble rumble…
Just as Riku was confused about what was happening, he heard the sound of something rolling—like lottery balls tumbling in his mind.
Ding!
Congratulations to the host for winning a Mega Bracelet.
