Chapter 9

Evie remained in the medical school's rest area until evening before slowly regaining consciousness.

The first thing she did upon waking was to struggle up, crying and shouting to see Ethan.

Staff members quickly came to comfort her, telling her that the dead cannot be brought back and asking her to mourn.

But Evie wouldn't listen to anything. Like a child who had lost a beloved toy, she just wanted to be by Ethan's side, even if it was just a cold corpse.

Helpless, the staff member in charge of cadaver records had to give Evie a copy of Ethan's "Body Donation Consent Form."

"Dr. Reed, this is the body donation consent form personally signed by Mr. Ethan Vance before his death. If you truly loved him, you should respect his last wish and let him make a final contribution to medical science."

Evie's hands trembled as she took the document. One glance at the signature—a sloppy, poorly imitated "Ethan Vance"—and she immediately knew it wasn't Ethan's handwriting!
