"Oh, old man, what do you want now?"
Kairos Flint replied casually.
"You really are despicable," Garp growled, his voice laced with anger.
They had already agreed to a truce, yet Kairos had blatantly broken it by striking the Navy right after the ceasefire.
"Garp, I think you're confused," Kairos said coldly. "I've never feared your World Government or your Navy. The only reason I stopped was out of respect for Red-Hair. But if I just let you leave here unharmed, where's my pride in that?"
He narrowed his eyes. "If you have a problem with that, then let's keep going. Let's see if I can bury your entire Navy right here."
His tone was calm, but the threat was crystal clear.
Softness? He was the type to grind his enemies down to the bone.
He hadn't come here just to play nice. If he walked away with nothing, then why had he even come? What was he, some wandering monk handing out blessings for free?
"You..."
Garp's fists clenched tightly as he stared at Kairos, his whole body trembling with restrained fury. He wanted nothing more than to crush him on the spot.
But he knew he couldn't.
Whether it was Kairos' physical strength or Haki, he had clearly reached an emperor-class level. His swordsmanship was equally terrifying.
And on top of all that, the young man possessed an array of abilities: fire, lightning, repulsion, wood manipulation… an absurd variety all in one person.
No one could even figure out what Devil Fruit he had consumed—or if he had eaten any at all. It was chaos incarnate. And worst of all—he was still young.
If Garp couldn't kill him now, the Navy would suffer for it later.
"So, are you really going to keep going?" Garp asked him grimly.
He truly didn't want to continue.
After Kairos' sudden attack, the Navy had lost a lot of their strength. Some soldiers were critically wounded, barely clinging to life. Others, though less injured, were in no condition to continue.
If this went on, many would die before he and Kairos could even settle things.
"Give me some face," the red-haired man interjected, his tone filled with helplessness.
He looked like a man caught in an awkward family spat.
His son-in-law had promised to give him face… and then immediately slapped that same face by attacking and killing numerous Navy soldiers.
He wasn't angry enough to fight Kairos—at least, not yet—but he was definitely on edge. If the kid tried something again, he'd be ready to block him.
"Fine," Kairos finally said, spreading his hands. "This war is over."
Anyway, his objective had been accomplished.
More than a dozen high-ranking naval officers were dead.
That meant a ton of ability crystals for him.
"Then please leave," Garp said tersely.
He kept his guard up. Kairos was as sly as they came.
Lowering his defenses would be suicide.
"Tch."
Kairos clicked his tongue and smirked. He could tell Garp was being cautious, and frankly, he didn't blame him.
Then, he turned and raised a hand toward Morgans—the reporter bird who had been live-broadcasting the whole battle with a Den Den Mushi from not too far away.
Of course everyone had noticed him. With so many strong people present, it was impossible not to.
Morgans immediately understood the signal.
He rushed over quickly, despite not being anywhere near as powerful as the monsters surrounding him. Still, he wasn't weak. He reached Kairos in about ten seconds.
Garp and the red-haired man were both confused by this.
What was Kairos up to now?
They didn't interrupt. They waited to see what he was planning.
"The battle's over," Kairos said in front of the live Den Den Mushi. "But I have a few words for the World Government—specifically, the Five Elders, who I know are watching right now."
In Mariejois, the faces of the Five Elders darkened.
They didn't even need to guess what he was going to say.
Enemies don't offer compliments.
They only hurl threats.
Still, despite knowing it would only irritate them, they continued watching.
Kairos looked directly into the camera.
"This war won't be the last," he said coolly.
"I'm giving you Five Elders one last chance. You have three days to revoke my bounty and pay full compensation. If you do, I'll consider our grudges settled, and I'll leave you alone."
He paused briefly.
"But if you don't…"
"Then I'll make sure no naval base survives in the New World. I'll hunt down every nation affiliated with the World Government. Until my bounty is removed, I'll randomly attack your allied countries. No exceptions."
He smiled, but there was no warmth in it.
"Think carefully, old men."
"To everyone watching from around the world—I wish you all sweet dreams tonight."
With that, Kairos turned and walked away.
At the same time, a system notification rang out:
[Pickable items detected. Do you want to pick them up?]
"Pick up."
Ding!
[Successfully picked up: Legendary Physique Crystal ×43, Legendary Soul Crystal ×31, Legendary Talent Crystal ×36, Legendary Martial Arts Crystal ×33, Legendary Dao Crystal ×23, Legendary Armament Haki Crystal ×35, Legendary Six Powers: Moonwalk Crystal ×37, Legendary Six Powers: Paper Art Crystal ×31. All stored in portable space.]
Seeing the rewards, Kairos grinned.
Totally worth it.
The World Government's grand operation against him had been utterly dismantled—and gifted him a huge stockpile of crystals to further strengthen himself.
Now, if he wanted, he could launch another campaign.
To be honest, if Garp hadn't shown up, he would've done exactly that.
He would've slaughtered every single naval officer on this island.
Buried them right here at the G-2 Branch Base.
After all, they were enemies.
Why should he show them mercy?
He wasn't the forgiving type.
As Kairos walked off, Garp never let his guard down, expecting a sudden ambush.
But Kairos didn't attack again.
He had made his point.
Besides, he had already given Red-Hair the courtesy of ending the war.
No need to embarrass his father-in-law any further.
