"Just some useless junk."
I didn't feel like wasting words with Annalise, so I maneuvered my wheelchair towards the apartment building.
Annalise took a few quick steps to catch up and walk beside me.
She grabbed the handles of my wheelchair, blocking my path.
"What a load of garbage."
She pressed her lips together, her facial muscles tense, her hands even trembling slightly.
At this moment, I suddenly found it amusing.
For a split second, I wanted to tell her everything.
Tell her that I had regained my memory and was about to leave.
Tell her that her first love "Dean" was actually my brother Alex, who was living well abroad now.
But just as I was about to speak, Annalise's phone suddenly rang.
She gave up confronting me and answered the call.
"Okay, I got it. I'll be right there."
"Something's come up at the office. I need to go back for a bit."
With that, she left without looking back.
I watched her retreating figure, knowing she wouldn't be back early tonight.
When did it start, I wonder?
It seemed that ever since her company got on track, she'd been coming home later and later.
Every time this happened, Annalise would take off the bone bracelet on her wrist.
Like some kind of self-deception.
Late at night, Annalise indeed didn't return.
I scrolled through social media, checking an account of one of her business partners I had added before.
He had posted photos from a party.
In the corner was a familiar figure.
Beside her sat a man in a black shirt, her hand resting ever so slightly on his thigh.
I let out a cold laugh and put down my phone. All that talk about cherishing first love is a lie.
Anna Lisa's true love, from beginning to end, has only ever been herself.
For the next few days, Anna Lisa seemed to have forgotten about our confrontation downstairs.
I was happy to enjoy the peace and quiet.
I had already sent the address to my former assistant. I was just waiting for the seven days to be up, then I could leave Anna Lisa for good.
But when there was only one day left until "freedom"...
Anna Lisa suddenly rushed back in a hurry.
She crouched down in front of my wheelchair, grabbing my shoulders with both hands, speaking urgently.
"Liam! There's a big problem with the company accounts. You have to come with me to meet the client tomorrow!"
"We absolutely must land this deal, you understand?"
"Otherwise, the company..."
As Anna Lisa spoke, her expression changed.
She really had no talent for managing a company.
These days, I'd been busy dealing with my departure and hadn't paid any attention to the company.
Problems with the accounts were only to be expected.
Seeing her almost pleading look, I smiled and agreed.
"Alright, I'll definitely help you."
Only then did she breathe a sigh of relief, pulling me into an embrace, her soft chest pressed tightly against me.
"That's great, Liam! Thank goodness I have you!" Her breathing was a bit rapid, with a hint of intimacy.
"Once this deal is done, I'll take you out for a nice trip.I remained motionless, staring blankly at the empty wall behind me.
There, our wedding photo once hung.
I had taken it down several days ago.
Annalise seemed not to have noticed at all.
Perhaps to appease me, that day, Annalise didn't go anywhere, even attempting to get close to me, but I skillfully avoided her every time.
But she didn't know that I had long since prepared to leave.
Early the next morning, I got up and started packing.
Annalise sent me a message.
She asked me to go to a designated restaurant around noon.
I didn't reply.
At 11:30, her messages and calls started bombarding my phone.
I ignored them all, placing the divorce papers on the table.
Then I sent her one last message.
"Let's get a divorce."
Turning around, I nodded slightly to the person waiting at the door.
"Let's go."
