Listening to Mirai Uchiha's resolute tone, Konan slightly furrowed her brows. "What makes you so sure? How can you know unless you give it a try?"
"Perhaps you don't realize there are countless ninjas who love peace."
"We firmly believe that if we open our hearts, a time of mutual trust among people will come."
"Violence isn't the only way to solve problems."
Hearing Konan's words, Mirai Uchiha shook his head. "The barriers between people will never disappear completely. This so-called mutual trust is merely a self-deceiving lie."
Upon hearing this, Konan replied defiantly, "Then what about you? What would you do?"
Mirai Uchiha replied calmly, "It's simple. As long as there's sufficient strength, everything will fall into place."
"Absurd!"
"Just because everyone wants to achieve their goals through their own strength is precisely why there are so many wars."
Konan became somewhat angry.
Originally, when she saw that Mirai Uchiha was willing to help an ordinary civilian from the Land of Rain, she thought she had found another peace-minded ally.
But unexpectedly, he turned out to be someone who relies solely on force to get things done.
Shaking his head, Mirai Uchiha said, "That's because their strength simply wasn't great enough."
"If one possesses power strong enough to conquer everything, then all decisions made will naturally be deemed correct."
"When that time comes, peace itself will merely be a matter of my words."
Looking at Mirai Uchiha's confident expression, Konan momentarily felt somewhat dazed.
She wanted to argue back but couldn't think of a proper counterargument.
Seeing this, Mirai Uchiha waved a hand dismissively, not wanting to continue debating with Konan. "Let's drop this for now. Right now I can tell you, the Konoha elders won't meet you, nor will they approve your ideas."
Seeing Mirai Uchiha about to leave, Konan called out unwillingly, "Even if you don't agree with our views, at least help introduce us, won't you?"
Hearing this, Mirai Uchiha turned around. "If you insist on trying, then go give Sunagakure a shot."
"They're the ones who started this war. If they're willing to talk peace, I suppose Konoha won't have any objections either."
Seeing Mirai Uchiha's firm stance, Konan felt somewhat helpless.
She had originally hoped to reach the Konoha elders through Mirai Uchiha, yet never expected things to turn out this way.
Failing to accomplish her goal and ending up scolded instead, Konan felt somewhat dissatisfied. "Mirai Uchiha, why are you even unwilling to just talk with our Akatsuki?"
After hearing Konan's words, Mirai Uchiha stopped walking forward. "Since you've put it this way, then let me have a serious chat with you."
"Is the 'Akatsuki' you mentioned just now an official organization of Amegakure?"
"Let me get this straight... The Akatsuki have been recognized by Hanzo of Amegakure?"
Faced with Mirai Uchiha's question, Konan's tone became somewhat uncertain. "Hanzo has always been our idol. We believe he will eventually see and acknowledge our efforts."
"So what you're saying is… You've secretly formed an organization and started acting on behalf of Amegakure without Hanzo's approval."
"So what?"
Konan looked at Mirai Uchiha with a puzzled expression.
Mirai Uchiha helplessly shook his head.
Now that was truly naïve.
A group of children raised in war, yet still somehow pure and innocent in their ideals.
No village leader would ever willingly hand over diplomatic authority to others.
If villages like Konoha or Sunagakure actually engaged in talks with the Akatsuki, how would Hanzo react?
Who exactly would be seen as the rightful authority in Amegakure?
Could a village really have two leaders?
With the Akatsuki acting so brazenly, even without Danzo Shimura stirring up trouble, it wasn't certain whether Hanzo Sanshouo would tolerate them.
Looking at Konan, Mirai Uchiha's eyes slowly transformed into the eerie patterns of the Mangekyo Sharingan.
"Remember my words—you'll eventually pay the price for your naivety."
"My eyes have already witnessed your fate."
After speaking, Mirai Uchiha tossed a Flying Thunder God Kunai into Konan's palm. "If one day you wake up to reality, come find me in Konoha."
"One mistake is forgivable. Don't let it happen again."
With that, Mirai Uchiha turned and left.
Now that that old schemer Madara Uchiha was still alive, he didn't want to interact too much with Konan and the others just yet.
But the warning had been given. As for their future decisions, that was entirely up to them.
——
In Amegakure,
Inside a simple wooden hut,
Seeing Konan return, Yahiko and Nagato both let out a quiet sigh of relief.
Konan walked over to the table in the living room and gently flipped over her forehead protector before softly asking, "Yahiko, how did things go on your end?"
Scratching his head with a smile, Yahiko replied, "Still no luck. The Sunagakure ninja refused to meet with us."
"But I'll keep trying—something good will definitely come from it."
Nagato, as usual, remained mostly silent, standing quietly behind Yahiko and minimizing his presence.
"Konan, what about you?"
"Did you learn anything new today?"
Hearing Yahiko's question, Konan seemed momentarily lost in thought, brushing her fingers against the kunai in her pocket.
After considering for a moment, she asked Yahiko, "Yahiko… Do you really think our cause is just?"
"Can peace really be achieved through words alone?"
Yahiko nodded confidently. "Of course."
"Our organization has grown stronger lately. As long as we keep going like this, there will be more and more people who share our ideals."
Absently remembering Mirai Uchiha's recent words, Konan hesitated for a moment before speaking again: "Yahiko, perhaps we could try reaching out to Lord Hanzo first."
"Don't worry, Konan," Yahiko said proudly, patting his chest. "I already wrote a letter to Lord Hanzo asking for a meeting, but I just haven't received any reply yet."
"Lord Hanzo must be swamped managing everything amid this chaos. We just need to focus on what we should do."
"All of this is for Amegakure."
Once he was done, Yahiko looked at Konan curiously: "Konan, you seem distracted today. Did something happen?"
"No, not really. I just met Mirai Uchiha earlier. I had hoped to work with him to reach out to the Konoha elders, but he refused."
Upon hearing this, Yahiko chuckled reassuringly: "It's fine. I've heard that the ninja from the Uchiha Clan are usually very proud and aloof; it makes sense he wouldn't help."
"Come to think of it... Mirai Uchiha has been building quite a reputation across the ninja world. Too bad he kills too much—he might become our enemy someday."
Hearing Yahiko's opinion, Konan ultimately decided not to mention her conversation with Mirai Uchiha today.
She knew that someone like Mirai Uchiha held completely different views, ones which Yahiko would never accept.
Saying more might only lead to unpleasantness.
Anyway, if she remained cautious in the future, any potential danger could probably be avoided in advance.
Besides...
Looking at Nagato's Rinnegan eyes, Konan felt somewhat reassured.
Even Nagato, who possessed the Rinnegan, firmly supported Yahiko. Therefore, Mirai Uchiha must have been the one who was mistaken.
