Another Reinforcement? (3)

The two elemental demons waited for the worst to happen when they saw the field of ice spikes around them.

The majority of the demons who were supposedly their main fighting strength had been stabbed or frozen to death by the ice spikes, as they all were close enough to be caught in the ice demon's spell.

Even the ones who were still far enough not to be hit by the spell couldn't get close anymore, as there was a wall of ice spikes, tens of meters thick, preventing anyone from getting closer to the ice demon.

'Did he plan to do this…? He intentionally let himself be surrounded by the army and let himself receive countless wounds so that he could do this…?'

The wind demon stared at Kayn, his eyes in disbelief as he saw what the ice demon had done.

The wind demon then looked at his ally, the earth demon, whose body had begun to move more slowly due to the ice mana freezing parts of his body.

His eyes then went back to the ice demon. The wind demon knew that the fight between them was over.

Without an army to support them, even he and the earth demon wouldn't be able to defeat the ice demon.

The earth demon had also realized the difference in strength between himself and the ice demon.

He barely escaped the ice spikes from turning his body into an ice statue

And if the ice demon made any move now, then the earth demon doubted that he could survive even a second longer.

However, the two elemental demons waited and waited, but the ice demon didn't make his move.

His eyes were still staring at them, but not a single spell was thrown towards them.

Then the two demons realized, 'Did he overwork his heart!?'

The two of them glanced at each other and nodded in understanding as they began making their move.

Kayn saw the stares of confusion from the two demons and also their silent exchange of understanding between each other as they realized that he was currently unable to cast any spells.

His heart kept pumping more mana to his body, but it was just simply in a state of overexertion as Kayn couldn't conjure up even a single rune.

He was trying to cast ice bullets all this time when the three of them were having a stare-off, but Kayn could feel that his body was still resupplying its mana to make his body function properly.

Fortunately, his demon heart still worked well enough to be able to return his body's strength.

Kayn might not be able to cast any spells currently, but he has already regained the strength needed to keep running despite the holes in his armor and the wounds covering his body.

When he saw the two demons nod to each other and the wind demon flew towards him, Kayn darted towards the nearest ice spikes and cut their base with his claws.

Solely using the physical strength his body had, Kayn hurled ice spikes towards the wind demon and the earth demon.

It worked well with the earth demon as he was already weakened by the ice spikes from earlier and he needed to properly defend against Kayn's desperate attack.

But the wind demon was just like usual, as he was able to easily dodge the ice spikes that Kayn threw towards him by maneuvering left and right in the air with his wings.

Kayn stared at the wind demon, his eyes filled with annoyance.

But Kayn knew that he was really powerless right now against the wind demon. So he spent no time cursing in his mind or even thought of a single word of complaint as he continued running around, cutting the ice spikes to use them as a projectile.

The wind demons began casting wind blades, sending the invisible attacks towards the weakened Kayn.

Fortunately, Kayn's mana sense still worked just fine, and he was still able to sense the wind blades coming towards him.

Unfortunately, his options weren't as plentiful as before, as he was forced to tank a few of the wind blades with his already broken armor.

And without his magic recasting the magic armor, the damage done to it couldn't be fixed as more and more of his body was exposed after parts of the armor were destroyed by the wind demon.

Kayn slowly but surely made his way over to the weakened earth demon, realizing that he would need to reduce the number of his enemies as soon as possible if he wanted to live.

Kayn even focused his attacks with the cut ice spikes to the earth demon just to make sure he didn't have time to cast spells to corner Kayn for the second time.

Alas, the wind demon had realized what Kayn was trying to do as he positioned himself between the earth demon and Kayn, sending more attacks from the earth demon's direction to force Kayn to dodge away.

'This is really bad… This overexertion thing was outside of my plan. I didn't know it could even get this bad…'

Kayn began to think of ways to buy more time for his heart to fill his body with mana once more as he continued dealing with the wind demon's attacks.

However, Kayn, the wind demon, and the earth demon, all of them, stopped whatever they were doing as they jerked their heads towards the castle.

The earth demon and wind demon released a smile as soon as they saw what had happened, but Kayn's frown couldn't get any deeper than it currently was after seeing it.

Just like before, when the previous owner of the fortress had released a distress signal, a bundle of mana was yet again released from the fortress.

But the amount of condensed mana was double, maybe triple, the amount of mana that Kayn had sensed before.

And instead of scattering all over the surroundings after reaching the sky, the bundle of mana shot in a certain direction.

It flew towards the deeper area of Earth territory, somewhere so far away that Kayn couldn't see where exactly it had disappeared to.

But seeing the relaxed smile of the two elemental demons, wherever the signal was sent to, it was bad news for him.

Then Kayn realized, 'The reason they were hell-bent on creating that path towards the fortress…

The wind demon must have known that even with the earth demon and his army, they wouldn't be able to defeat me…

Then if they were relaxing like this after that signal was sent out, then it could only mean that help, one that they were 100% sure could finish me off, would be coming…'

Using the path that the two elemental demons had created earlier, a group of demons had infiltrated the fortress, 14 of them to be exact, and then found the pedestal to send out a distress call.

And they didn't just call out for any help. It was a reinforcement that they were sure would bring victory for them.

'The lord of this region will be coming…' Kayn realized as he looked at the sky where the signal had disappeared to, his hands balled up into fists.
