"Jack..."
After carrying Sophia back to her room, Cynthia turned to Jack with tears in her eyes and biting her lip.
She tried to soften his attitude, hoping he would accept her again.
But once trust is broken, it's hard to rebuild. Jack couldn't even be bothered to look at her.
Cynthia stood with him outside the house for two hours before she finally gave up and left.
Jack, however, was very patient.
He waited until Alexander came home from work, watching us share a passionate kiss through the fence. He saw our family of three sitting cozily around the dinner table. Only then did he clutch his aching chest and disappear into the night.
To me, Jack was a stain on my past.
The more he suffered, the more liberated I felt. But Sophia needed a playmate, and as a top-tier incubus, Alexander's feeding periods required my attention.
Amidst the busyness, I unconsciously pushed Jack to the back of my mind again.
