Chapter 3

Caden had always favored Seraphina.

I thought he'd release my hand right away, but surprisingly, he addressed Seraphina in an unusually stern tone.

"Stop it. I'll be back soon."

He gripped my hand firmly, refusing to let me pull away.

I was somewhat astonished. This was the first time Caden had momentarily disregarded Seraphina for my sake.

He didn't even look back when she called out to him several times in her alluring voice.

Unfortunately, I didn't need his "pity."

"You don't have to do this."

Hearing these words, Caden furrowed his brow in displeasure, his aura instantly turning dangerous.

He couldn't understand why Stella's submissiveness, the very quality that had initially drawn him to choose her as his mate, now irritated him so much." Stella, if you're hurt, you should go get treated. Stop trying to play the victim and get sympathy from me!"

"I've told you, no matter what you do, don't even think about getting my real mark! Save your energy!"

His fingers tightened around my wrist, the force punishing, but his eyes looked like they wanted to devour me.

I sneered coldly, a bit speechless, not bothering to argue uselessly anymore.

Just then, a pack of Blood Fang wolf warriors suddenly burst out of the forest, radiating intense killer intent.

At the same time, Seraphina's terrified scream came from behind.

In the blink of an eye, the three of us were surrounded, with razor-sharp claws and fangs glinting menacingly, about to erupt into a bloodbath.

Worried about Seraphina, Caden didn't think twice before shoving me towards the fiercest point of attack. Using me as a momentary shield, he transformed into a massive black wolf, sheltering Seraphina beneath him as he led the charge to break through.

The alpha werewolf paid no attention to me, a "weak" she-wolf, roaring as it trampled over me, its claws leaving several gashes on my body deep enough to see bone.

I could only curl up helplessly on the ground, letting out agonized whimpers with each wave of excruciating pain. As the blood-toothed wolf pack retreated, I struggled to get up, only to discover that my left leg had been slashed by claws laced with silver powder. The excruciating pain nearly made me lose consciousness. This wound would leave me permanently disabled.

I was in so much agony I almost passed out. Trembling, I whimpered for help to a lone alpha werewolf who hadn't yet left.

"Help me... please..."

To my shock, the next second, a glint of cunning similar to Seraphina's flashed in his eyes. He suddenly turned back and viciously struck my already injured head with his barbed claws.

Once, twice, three times...

Blood quickly gushed down, staining my vision red.

If it weren't for the urgent howl of my deputy Jaxon in the distance, he had no intention of stopping.

Terrified of drawing reinforcements, he whispered a threat,

"Listen up, you worthless she-wolves! If you know what's good for you, you'll get the hell out of the Dark Moon pack and let Seraphina take her rightful place as soulmate!"

Only after he had gone did I use my last ounce of strength to let out a feeble howl for help.

To my shock, Caden's icy mental link was the only response I received,

"Stella, you brought this enemy upon us. Now deal with the consequences yourself!"
