For the next few days, we could see Caden at sunset.

He stood motionless like an abandoned lone wolf under the dead tree at the entrance of the valley.

Ronan took the stone bowl of stream water from my hand and said with a hint of resignation,

"Alright, that's your third bowl of icy stream water today."

"I see you haven't changed your habit of craving cold drinks from seven years ago."

I pouted and chided him,

"That's because I didn't have a wolf watching over me for those seven years."

"Just thinking about you makes my chest burn, so I can only drink ice-cold stream water."

Ronan nuzzled my forehead with his own, chuckling softly,

"Aren't I here to take care of you now?"

"Then you'd better take care of me for a lifetime."

"Of course, I'll take care of you for a lifetime."

With that, he got up to carry the stone bowl in front of me into the den.

I stood up to follow him inside, but he stopped me.
