Life for Lam Minh passed in relative peace after the drinking session with the reconnaissance squad. He still went to school, still dozed off, and still secretly cultivated at night. However, that peace didn't last long. The source of the trouble, unsurprisingly, came from the two "satellites" constantly orbiting him.
It all started on a weekend afternoon. To Quyen had asked Lam Minh to her mother's laboratory to "help" analyze some new alloy samples. Naturally, the "third wheel" Quynh Nhu also tagged along under the pretext of "ensuring the safety of the special consultant."
In the lab, Lam Minh once again demonstrated his innate "talent." With just a glance at the charts and a few "wild guesses," he was able to point out the core problems in the material's structure, leaving the scientists wide-eyed and amazed once again.
"Lam Minh, you truly are our treasure," Professor Lan Anh praised him generously. "How about you come and help us out every weekend? I'll pay you the salary of a real expert."
"Yes, ma'am. If I have time, I will definitely come," Lam Minh replied modestly.
To Quyen stood beside him, looking at him with sparkling, proud eyes, as if she were the one being praised.
Quynh Nhu, however, was different. She stood in a corner with her arms crossed, watching Lam Minh and To Quyen work together in perfect harmony, occasionally exchanging "scientific" glances that she couldn't understand. A feeling of irritation began to bubble up inside her.
She felt like a complete outsider.
In the field of combat, she had been surpassed by him in an unimaginable way. Now, in the realm of intellect, he and To Quyen were like a match made in heaven. There was no room for her to squeeze in between them.
That feeling of frustration reached its peak when To Quyen, after finishing her work, turned to Lam Minh.
"Oh, Lam Minh, my mom was just given some tickets to a classical music concert at the City Opera House. Do you like listening to symphonies?"
"It's alright," Lam Minh replied. "I hear it helps relax the mind."
"So... shall we go together tomorrow night?" To Quyen offered, her face flushing slightly.
Standing nearby, Quynh Nhu heard this and let out a loud "Tsk!" "Symphonies? Bor-ing! What's so great about them?"
To Quyen turned around, smiling "amiably." "Oh, Quynh Nhu, you're here too? I'm sorry, these tickets are only for the 'expert' and his 'partner.' No seats for outsiders."
This was the first time that the ever-gentle To Quyen had said something with such "damaging" intent. Clearly, she was still holding a grudge about the ruined movie night.
"You..." Quynh Nhu turned red with anger but couldn't retort. She couldn't use the excuse of "providing security" to attend a concert.
And so, the next evening, Lam Minh had a proper "date" with To Quyen at the City Opera House.
But Quynh Nhu was not one to give up easily.
She couldn't follow them, but she could "sabotage" them from afar.
While Lam Minh and To Quyen were sitting in the theater, enjoying the melodious tunes of Mozart, Lam Minh's phone kept vibrating.
Ding! Ding! Ding!
It was a text from Quynh Nhu.
"Hey punching bag, what r u doing? Fallin asleep listening to the music?"
"Do they sell bubble tea there? Get me a large, 100% sugar, 100% ice."
"Hey, that vest you're wearing looks so dorky! Who was your stylist?"
"Send me a pic of the stage. Let's see if it's as pretty as my gym."
Dozens of spam messages came in continuously, accompanied by all sorts of teasing stickers, giving Lam Minh a massive headache. He had no choice but to turn off his phone.
But she wasn't done yet. She began to "terrorize" To Quyen.
To Quyen's phone started to vibrate.
"Bestie, can you help me with this problem! It's urgent! [Sends a super-difficult calculus problem]"
"To Quyen, do you know the chemical formula for C4 explosive? I suddenly forgot."
"Hey, I just saw a Madakaros that looks exactly like the one in your mom's lab running down the street! Do you need me to catch it?"
To Quyen read Quynh Nhu's nonsensical messages and could only sigh. She knew perfectly well her best friend was trying to cause trouble on purpose.
The concert ended in a state of "instability."
As Lam Minh was walking To Quyen home, she suddenly stopped near her house.
"Lam Minh," she said, her tone serious. "What... what do you think of Quynh Nhu?"
Lam Minh was surprised by the unexpected question. "Quynh Nhu? She's... well... a bit loud and sassy, but she's actually a good person."
"Is that all?" To Quyen looked straight into his eyes.
"What else is there?"
To Quyen was silent for a moment, then said, "I think she likes you."
Lam Minh was stunned, then burst out laughing. "Likes me? Are you kidding? She just wants to find an excuse to torture me to pay off my debt." With the romantic experience of a 50-year-old uncle from his past life, he absolutely did not believe it.
To Quyen shook her head. "A girl knows a girl best. The way she looks at you, the way she deliberately tries to get your attention... I can't be wrong. You should... think about it carefully."
With that, she smiled, said goodbye, and went into her house, leaving Lam Minh standing there dumbfounded with a tangled mess in his head.
Quynh Nhu... likes me? No way...
He was lost in thought when his phone vibrated again. It was still Quynh Nhu. This time, it was a video call. He answered.
On the screen was her fuming face, with the familiar gym in the background.
"Hey! Why did you turn off your phone? Why didn't you answer my texts?" she snapped.
"I was with To Quyen," he replied.
"To Quyen again!" Quynh Nhu pouted. "You were with her all evening, leaving your creditor all alone at home? Do you know that..."
She was about to continue when she suddenly stopped, her eyes staring intently at something behind Lam Minh.
"Wait... is that... To Quyen's house? You two... you two have already reached the 'taking her home' stage?"
Her voice suddenly became shrill, filled with "danger."
Lam Minh sighed. He knew a new storm was about to hit.
The "dual sword" jealousy of the two girls, it seemed, was only just beginning.
