Chapter 93: Remember to Knock on the Door Next Time

About an hour and a half later, Kurenai still hadn't gone home.

She stood at the bathroom sink, using Guts's toothbrush to rinse her mouth repeatedly.

She had swapped her usual kunoichi attire for one of Tsunade's casual outfits, slightly oversized on her smaller frame.

Her damp, tousled hair and flushed cheeks made it obvious she had just taken a shower.

Guts leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, looking at her with a bemused expression.

"You've been rinsing your mouth for over ten minutes. Aren't you afraid your teeth will grow fangs or something?"

Kurenai shook her head, avoiding eye contact, her cheeks still pink.

Guts didn't press the issue. After all, she had gone through a lot...especially after "tasting" his rather Large Sausage.

Trying to shift the mood, he said casually,

"So… how about we buy a sword stand? We can hang the Ninja Sword on the wall, makes for a cool decoration, right?"

Samehada, who was lying on the floor nearby, almost whimpered in dismay.

If I knew this was my fate, I never would've followed this lunatic to Konoha...

"No way," Kurenai snapped instantly, frowning.

Guts raised an eyebrow in confusion.

Kurenai stomped over and slapped his shoulder lightly, annoyed.

"Idiot! I'm wearing Lady Tsunade's clothes! You expect me to go out like this? What would people think?"

Realization dawned on Guts. He chuckled softly and said,

"Alright, alright. I'll grab your clothes."

In a blink, he vanished using Soru.

While waiting, Kurenai glanced toward Samehada, curiosity gleaming in her eyes.

She reached out toward the sword's handle.

Normally, Samehada would've retaliated instantly, barbs flaring, drawing blood, maybe even aiming for the heart.

But in Kurenai's case? Nothing. It didn't even twerk.

Maybe it feared Guts more than it hated strangers.

Within ten minutes, Guts returned, carrying a stack of clothes. He tossed them onto the tatami mat.

Kurenai blinked.

"Why'd you bring so many of my clothes?"

Guts shrugged casually.

"You'll be living here from now on, right? Or would you rather go back to an empty house while I just got home?"

Kurenai's face turned crimson at his words. Her mind flashed back to everything that had just happened between them.

"You perv! You just want me to stay so you can keep doing... that!"

Guts didn't reply. His silence said it all.

Kurenai huffed, but couldn't stop the redness creeping into her face. She was still a little shy of fourteen, they couldn't cross the final line.

But there were still... things... that could be done.

Ah yes, the ways of a cultured man.

She quickly ran into the other room to change.

When she came back out, Guts grabbed her hand with a grin.

"Let's go! I'm taking you out. You better thank me for it."

Kurenai glared at him but leaned her head on his shoulder anyway, acting like a proper girlfriend.

They first visited Konoha's largest weapon shop and bought a sword holder for Samehada.

The store owner, recognizing Guts, didn't hesitate, he gifted it without charge.

It's an honor, he said, sweating nervously.

Though the village wasn't as lively as it had been during peacetime, it was still far better than a dull military camp.

Guts took Kurenai all over town, from busy markets to peaceful paths.

The villagers' attitude toward Guts had changed. Fear had shifted to awe.

Still, it wasn't the kind of admiration people gave Namikaze Minato, who was respected and loved. With Guts, it was different.

His lawless, unpredictable style kept people wary.

Not that Guts cared. He never did.

By the time they got back home, the sun was already starting to set.

After a bit of horsing around for another hour, they finally settled down.

Guts hung Samehada on the new wall mount.

The sword wept internally.

Just kill me already...

Kurenai even placed two small flowers beside it for decoration. A nice touch for a sword soaked in blood.

Guts looked around, only to frown.

"Wait... why are there two separate tatami mats?"

Kurenai froze mid-motion, her hand still adjusting the bedding.

Her lips tightened slightly, and her face turned pink again.

Obviously because if we sleep together, you'll start doing those things again!

Before she could respond, Guts swooped in, wrapped an arm around her waist, and pulled her onto one of the tatami.

"No more escaping."

Kurenai struggled weakly, her voice half-protest, half-embarrassed whimper. But Guts ignored it, pulling the quilt over them both.

A soft, youthful voice rang out from the room not long after.

The next morning, Kurenai woke up feeling... sticky.

Flushed with embarrassment, she rushed into the bathroom for another shower.

Once both of them had cleaned up, a sudden shadow landed in their courtyard.

They turned to see an ANBU member in a grey flak vest and animal mask standing respectfully outside.

"Jōnin Guts," he said with a bow,

"Lord Hokage summons you."

Guts didn't respond at first. He calmly finished his breakfast, courtesy of Kurenai, while the ANBU stood awkwardly.

After putting down his chopsticks, Guts finally looked at him and asked,

"You from [ANBU] or [Root]?"

There was a pause. Then the masked ninja answered,

"ANBU."

Guts nodded slowly.

"Good. Then here's your first lesson, next time, knock before coming into my home."

The air seemed to grow heavier, and the ANBU stiffened.

"I didn't break your legs this time,"

Guts continued calmly

"So make sure to spread the word to your colleagues. If anyone barges in again, I won't be as 'nice' as I was today."

He didn't use Conqueror's Haki, but his sheer presence alone got the message across.

Though Guts understood they were just doing their jobs, entering his space without warning was still a show of disrespect.

Better to scare one now than deal with a dozen later.

The ANBU was drenched in sweat beneath the mask. He bowed deeper and stammered,

"Y-Yes, understood!"
