I turned around and saw Jack standing not far away, his expression tinged with suspicion.
"Oh, I had a bit of an allergic reaction to the mango dessert. I wanted to ask Ethan if he had any antihistamines," I explained.
Jack glanced at my swollen lips, his expression showing understanding.
"What a bother," he muttered.
As my husband in name only, he showed no concern for my physical well-being.
"You're still my legal wife. Be mindful of appearances in public," he admonished.
I nodded, then suddenly feigned a look of panic.
"Oh my God! Sophia, how did you fall?"
Hearing this, he immediately turned around, almost instinctively rushing towards where I was pointing.
But there was only a wall there. Where was Sophia?
"Emma. Harrison." Jack said through gritted teeth.
I shrugged innocently. "Sorry, I must have been mistaken."
After the birthday party, a few uneventful days passed before I finally joined the team on the ski trip.
Jack's mother's call came late.
