When K, clad in a pristine white suit, stood beside Rush, who wore a stark black suit, all eyes were inevitably drawn to them. It was evident to everyone that the two men harbored no goodwill toward each other; Rush's demeanor was especially hostile, his gaze cold and venomous, as if staring at a mortal enemy.
K nonchalantly produced a cigarette and offered one to Rush, who declined without a word. With a faint smile, K lit his own cigarette and remarked, "So, how's life following Jason treating you?"
Rush sneered coldly, "Not bad at all. Had I not followed Jason, I'd never have attained the power of an eighth-level esper. Otherwise, do you think I'd dare speak to you like this? Right?"
"Heh, good to know you understand," K replied smoothly.
"But I have not forgotten how you treated me back then. Our unresolved issues have long since needed settling."
"Explaining myself to you is pointless. I already told you, your wife's affairs have nothing to do with me. Why won't you believe that?"
The mere mention of his wife shattered Rush's composure. In a sudden fury, he seized K by the collar. "Damn you! How am I supposed to believe that when I saw you lying in the same bed? What more proof do you need?"
As Rush gripped K's collar, the other members of Kill rushed to pull him away.
"What do you think you're doing? Let him go!"
"Damn it! Keep moving and I swear I'll tear you apart!"
"Did you hear that? Release him at once!"
The Kill members could not stand idly by while their leader was threatened.
From a distance, Xiao Feng and Lin, noticing the altercation escalating, hurried over. Together with others, they pulled the two men apart. Rush, brimming with anger, bellowed, "Let me go! If you don't, don't blame me for being ruthless!"
K retorted defiantly, "Let him go, damn it! I want to see what this eighth-level esper can really do!"
Xiao Feng, clad in tattered clothes, stood helplessly before them. Addressing both K and Rush, he said, "I am truly grateful that you came to rescue my friends and brothers today. Whatever grievances exist between you, let us settle them with words, here and now. If you start fighting in my presence, in my domain, I would feel deeply ashamed."
Rush, however, refused to show Xiao Feng any respect, as he answered solely to Jason's command. Yet, recalling Xiao Feng's connection to Hebrew, he tempered his rage somewhat and shouted at K, "K, you bastard, this isn't over!"
K shot back without restraint, "I'm always ready. You fool."
Xiao Feng heard K call Rush an idiot and felt some amusement, though Rush seemed lacking in tact. "Enough, enough. Stop this madness. Let's sit down, have a drink, and talk it through properly. First, I want to thank everyone for coming to help us, and second, to honor our fallen brothers."
But Rush snapped fiercely, "I'd never drink with that bastard. K, if you're a man, then face me one-on-one—like men—let's settle this properly!"
K retorted vehemently, "I've told you a hundred times: your wife's departure had nothing to do with me. Even if we shared a bed, it was a setup. I never laid a finger on her. If you can't trust the one you love most, no wonder she left you!"
Rush's fury boiled over. He shoved Xiao Feng aside and shouted at those restraining him, "If anyone stands in my way, I'll kill them. Stay back!"
Suddenly, an overwhelming wave of psychic energy surged from Rush, violently pushing everyone away. None could resist the power of an eighth-level esper—not even Xiao Feng.
K, sensing Rush was about to strike, removed his white jacket and tossed it aside to his Kill comrades. "Everyone, stay back! Be careful, he might hurt you!"
Xiao Feng watched anxiously, powerless to intervene. On one side was Rush, who had saved him; on the other, Lin's leader, K. Though strangers to both, Xiao Feng dreaded their conflict. Yet his strength was insufficient to stop them.
Lin sneered with disdain, "Let them fight. Unless one of them dies, this won't be resolved. What I hate most is a man messing with another's wife. Worse still is your own wife being taken. Damn it…"
Rolling up his sleeves after discarding his jacket, K challenged Rush, "Come on. Whoever loses today isn't a real man!"
Just as the tension between K and Rush reached its peak, the distant roar of helicopter rotors broke through the air. Heads turned skyward as five helicopters slowly descended toward the compound.
Emblazoned with logos from both Brom Company and Victoria Corporation, the helicopters landed on the compound's open field. Armed special guards disembarked, having rushed over the moment they learned Xiao Feng was in danger.
Like Rush and Xiao Feng, who were deployed via fighter jet air-drop, these elite forces arrived shortly after.
From the Victoria helicopter, Kelly and another man quickly approached the group.
Seeing Xiao Feng's clothes torn and stained, Kelly's worry was palpable as she asked, "Xiao Feng, are you alright? Has everything been resolved?"
Xiao Feng smiled wryly, "Ah, you're just in time. We've already dealt with the scum from the Evil Dragon Cult. But now, two powerful men are about to clash. I've never witnessed a battle between such high-level espers before."
Kelly gazed at K and Rush, "Those two? What's the cause?"
"I don't know. Can you persuade Rush to settle things peacefully? Is fighting really necessary?"
Kelly called out to the approaching man, "William, please talk Rush down. Don't let this turn violent..."
